    Often find it more interesting to see characters/actors desperately trying not to cry than just crying.

    I’m always being eye rolled and get the ‘you’re obsessed with musicals’ and yes , before all this, I was visiting the theatre at least twice a month, often more but my response was always ‘there’s worst things to be addicted to’
    I don’t drink or smoke, I don’t take drugs, I don’t go out clubbing and I eat well and I work full time really hard so if I wait to spend my money on the theatre, I bloody well will!

    My pet peeve is when you can clearly tell that someone is fake crying because they think the scene needs it. It completely pulls me out of the moment - I think I'm with you on the whole 'if you don't cry naturally, maybe the scene doesn't warrant it' thinking

  • @mancmcr8172

    Yes! I would rather someone just did not cry than did over the top fake crying. I have to say though Jamie Muscato is blooming brilliant at the emotional bit in Heathers and it must definitely help.

    I was recently in a play where my character recently lost her beloved husband and then during the show lost her sight. There were 2 very well written places in the show for me to let emotion out about both things but you are very correct about finding the little parts leading up to those larger parts and the journey. Side note I actually did lose my beloved husband last year so I almost turned down the part but it ended up being therapeutic. Best wishes for a good day everyone! Take care.

    I often find that it helps to have a trigger when you have to cry on cue. I’ve been working on Stanislavski with my drama group and we’ve been taught to associate counting back from 20 with a memory that makes you cry (for me it was my Grandad’s death). It takes a lot of work but now, whenever I start counting backwards from 20, I can be in tears by the time I reach the end. Xx

  • @ny5435

    In real life I’m really not a crying type of person so when I have a crying scene I have to rely on being in the zone and really being the character because I know that if I was in that Sita myself I wouldn’t cry. I also think that sometimes in sad or emotional scenes you don’t have to actually produce tears, like in real life when people are sad they don’t always cry floods of tears, so it’s more than just literally crying to make it emotional x

    So she has been continuously going to that show for 19 years....that is some serious love. I don't know if i did that math right cause..... I don't even know... but like how much money is that? 😳

    • @Lioness99a
      @Lioness99a 4 года назад +8

      Yep, just over 19 years. The cheapest price I could see from a quick Google was about £40 for a Saturday show which amounts to over £40,000 for 1000 shows..! That is some serious dedication there...

    • @TheSpinDoctor
      @TheSpinDoctor 4 года назад +3

      Lioness99a 20 years ago the top prices were £27.50, and used to start at £15 for most shows - so probably a bit less.

    I have a friend who can cry on demand like no one else I know. Its sheer magic. Like he doesn't even need to be in character or acting whatsoever- you can literally be in an empty room and say "cry" and tear spring out his face. I once asked how he does it and he said "I just think about what crying feels like and it happens" I just... I don't get it. Magic eyes is the only explanation I have.

    That first convo is such an interesting topic because I am one of those people who sees things I love obsessively. My two favorite shows are Wicked and Hamilton. I've seen Wicked 9 times (live, I watched probably over 100 boots of it tho) and Hamilton 19 times (I was out of the boot game when hamilton came around) because I live in Chicago and I had the ability to do so and I love it and I've never gotten to be in shows bc I had strict parents growing up so I couldn't do anything in it.

    Think of how much money people spend on sports and the traditions those have, like having certain seats every year, memorabilia and jerseys, season tickets, or people who get season passes to Disney, or people who have to see artists every time they come into town- or just every show! So no, definitely not that weird when you think about it to be attached like that with a musical!
    I love the story of the mugs though! That's really sweet. And you could tell that she actually cared too and sounded like put thought into it, not just for attention.

    Super fans of shows blow my mind! But then my mum and I have seen a lot of theatre but we decided to book the very cheapest tickets at the back or in an awkward space so we could see as much as we possibly could. I've seen Wicked 6 times as it's my favourite show of all time (Glinda is my version of Carrie's Eponine) and 5 of those have been in the front 5 rows, but even then I try and see a bunch of other stuff. I love how we're all different, even within the community of MT

    A lot of musicals I see I'll go again before it closes. But that's because I live in Australia so once a show is gone that's it and I have no idea when or if I'll get to see it again. Compared to on the West End where you'll go to Les Mis with the understanding that it will probably still be going in long into the future for you to see again. So I make the most of it while it's here because I just love musicals so much. I saw Les Mis three times when it was in Melbourne in 2014. Other shows I've seen at least twice in a relatively short space of time include Hairspray, Wicked, Lion King, Matilda, Book of Mormon, Wizard of Oz (Andrew Lloyd Webber), and Come From Away. Pretty sure there's more but can't remember off the top of my head

    I think 100% you should never eat something made for you to eat unless that person has a business and are gifting it through the business. it's never safe just incase something is in the baked good. as much as people are probably innocent and just doing a nice thing for someone who's work they admire. it's not worth the risk, it's sad that you have to think like this but it's best.
