Ok, this was SO jam packed with information I had to repeat the video in a few spots! Well done 👍🙏🏻☺️
Perfect!! That means more views!! 😂😂🫶 - yes I can slow down a bit. But this audio -- is a long story. I had to record at the university. I had to find a quiet spot…. Then I had to find another place….
Beautiful, Jacob, thank you for your beautiful content!
Thank you for feeling it worthy to follow!
Incredible video - one of my favorite yet!
I’m glad you liked it so much! Everyone is responding the same way! 🫶
Very good video. Thanks
Thanks for watching!!
A great video of a spectacular church with an incredible history of the icon.
Thanks! I’d love for you to come to Rome again so I could take you to these churches!
Thank you for another amazing video. So much beautiful images and information!
Thanks Judy! I just learned about the Jesuits and their devotion. I knew Saint Ignatius was devoted to her; he said his first Mass in the Sistine Chapel of Santa Maria Maggiore on Christmas Day.
Ave Maria!
Ave!!! 💙

Golden roses still play their role today!
I don't understand... :)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Rose
In the twentieth century Pius X, Benedict XV, John XXIII, and John Paul I made no awards of the Golden Rose.
Pius XI revived the practice which was continued by Pius XII.
Paul VI (1963-1978) made five awards
John Paul II (1978-2005) made ten awards
Benedict XVI (2005-2013) made nineteen awards
Francis has made five awards of the Golden Rose during his reign (in November 2013, July 2016, May and October 2017, June 2019)
It was interesting to learn about the special devotions of the Jesuits towards such a beautiful sacred image. After the devotion of Pope Pius, the 12th to the holy mother of God, our cathedral in Montreal was renamed.Mary Queen of the World. Did not Pope Francis also express his Marian devotion by having the I on exposed in St. Peter’s Square in his early Pontificate?
Yes, I mentioned Pope Pius XII because it came up in a live video on instagram the other day when I was walking past Santa Maria ai Monti. I saw a Marian mosaic offered to Our Lady in 1954 for the Marian year by the neighborhood of Monti. Also, my grandma has always mentioned to me that 1954 is when she was confirmed and everyone that year, at least in our Archdiocese, took Mary as patron for Confirmation.
Re: Pope Francis. I'm not aware of that at the beginning -- he makes frequent visits to the image. And I think the image was brought to the Square in March 2020 for the extraordinary Urbi et Orbi Message.
Yes, Pope Francis did visited the Madonna numerous times and no mention of the current Holy Father in this 10 minute, dense and well researched topic.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed.
Hello Jacob Yes in the Holy Year inaugurated ne Pope Francis he had an all night Prayer Vigil in which he installed the Icon. I ad never known it before. I believe it was also for prayer for peace in Syria in 2014. I have attended all Holy Years since 1999-2000 is St. John Paul. You filled in a lot of blanks. Very much appreciated❤
PS I was born in 1953 and the subsequent Marian Years had a huge impact on my grandparent, parents and brothers and sisters
Studying Bizantyne art or orthodox art You learn a lot not only of greek.
I don't understand your comment
@@cruxstationalis My writing in English is not fluid. Well the icons are very well organized following prototypes. And the medieval art is influenced by this. Including renaisence but this one with other way of doing it.
@@juanpablozapata yes, in the west we have a greater canon - or rather lack a canon of art, strictly speaking.
Grazie Jacob! I believe that the gold of the ceiling of Mary Maggiore was brought from the New World by Christopher Columbus.
Is today not Station St. Chrysogonus?

The intense accompanying music distracts me from your interesting comments.
Sorry. I try to keep the volume down on the music to ensure my audio is heard well.
@@cruxstationalis Thank you, that would be wonderful (above all, I was irritated that - as far as I understood it - something sacred - a prayer? - is sung. Something I would also love to concentrate on 🙏)
@@susanne2959 it’s the admonition and the our Father. And some kyrie’s
No mention of Pope Francis particular devotion to the Madonna. Not even one picture of Pope Francis numerous visits to S. Maria Maggiore….Why ?
It’s too obvious your omission of the current Holy Father
Yes JACOB, it’s very obvious.
Didn’t mention any pope since the crowning in 1954. I did however say recent popes have expressed devotion to her. The examples are too many. I didn’t mention the many WYDs either that were under her protection. Note that I tend to focus on originals.
Also, I can’t use Vatican media content. I don’t have copyright to it.
I think you owe Jacob an apology. He produced a lovely video as usual, & you make a leading, rash accusation. Is this a great way to begin Lent - to devour your brother like this?
Originals should read “origins” - nonetheless there are many stories about pope Francis’s devotion. I spoke about the stories no one is talking about much any more. And I gave the history as to why it could be such a devotion in his life: the devotion of St Ignatius to Salus Populi Romani.
However, I feel no need to justify my script choices.
