Might want to note that laserbox basic is being phased out in favor of xTool's Creative Space.

Good call, pinning this. When I did the review they were saying that Laserbox basic was only available for the D1, and the D1 pro and others would use creative space, but then I tried creative space and it worked amazingly well. I will do a followup for that when I get a chance as creative space was MUCh nicer IMO and I really enjoyed having the pre made projects bult in. Thanks, will pin this in the meantime!

Where did you get your clock or other designs that might not be in the laserbox software.? I know you mentioned lightburn but was just wondering while im doing my research on what laser to buy . Im a first time user that does leather tooling. Im just looking for a rime saver to do hat patches. Im really leaning towards this one.

I get a lot of designs off of Etsy. The clock was in a pack of about 60 designs. Be careful buying packs of 1000 or more because those are usually tons of files, but you'll spend alot of time sorting or organizing them. I usually find for 5-10 dollars I can get quite a set of designs though and I just build up a library of them

Hello friend, first of all, thanks for the demonstrations on the xTOOL D1 10W.
I am about to buy one, but I would like to know if this machine has Limit Switches (end of stroke detector) on the X and Y axis.
I am in great doubt about the xTOOL D1 10W and the Sculpfun S30 Pro 10W.
Another thing: what is the basic difference between the D1 and the D1 Pro? Thanks

Great question! The D1 does NOT have limit switches which shocked me for the price. But the pro does. I haven’t tried a sculpfun so can’t speak to that and haven’t had a pro to try to know if there are other changes. I’d look for something with an air assist or air assist upgradable though if you’re looking to cut. I’m realizing after a few 10w reviews it’s weird to have 10w and not have an air assist

I’m looking into getting a laser. I’m only interested for cutting boxes. Is a 10w good enough for 1/4inch material? Or should I just save for a 20w? Thanks

I’d save for a 20w. Being able to cut and being able to enjoy the hobby are a bit different. I’ve cut 1/4” with a few passes on a 10w with basswood, it a 20w going twice the speed is so much more satisfying and enjoyable. Keep in mind lasers are dangerous to leave unattended so a 40 min cut vs a 20 min cut means you only have to babysit it for half the time

When working with trade mark work or copywriter art work, do we have to worry about any legal issues?

    • @geektoolkit

I'm not a lawyer. My understanding is if you're making something for personal use, you're ok. Once you present it to others, sell it, etc. then you're in legal territory. I wouldn't try to sell any design that isn't my own

Holy crap.. Did you cut through metal at 10:37 with the 10W laser? I thought that was only possible with co2 lasers ? This machine has more in store for me..

    • @geektoolkit
      @geektoolkit  Год назад +2

No no no! Sorry that was 3mm Acrylic, I didn't mean for that to appear as metal (it was a bit of an odd ..sparkly almost acrylic). You can not cut metal with this machine at all.
Also a CO2 can't truly engrave metal...though it can mark it. You can engrave with a Fiber laser. If you want to actualy cut metal you're likely looking at another technology. At least that's my current knowlege on it.

    LightBurn renewal is only $30.

Thank you!! I’ll note that (and I need to renew!). I’m also going to make a follow up because as nice as it is to have the easy to use software light burn really has a ton of value for the price.
