That was fun Miss Yonit, I did sneak some ghost notes in this exercise 😏☺ its 4am in the morning in Brooklyn good to know I'm not the only one up playing funky bass😎
This is a great funk lesson. Not too complicated but still challenging, if your pinky can stand the heat and sounds funky. Gonna try moving this up & down the fret board. Thanks!
Hello Yonit! i recently came across your lessons on lessonface which youtube eventually led me to find your channel. i really like how you teach lessons and was wondering if you had any courses available for sale for someone who just recently picked up the bass, thank you!!
Gil! I think two very important things could help - first, warm up and stretch your hands and shoulders before every time you play. Second, don’t jump ahead to practice the original tempo of the track. Slow it down to the point of control and slowly pick it up so you build muscle for it (a great tool for it is the slow down option in the RUclips setting for example) Hope it helps!
Welcome back teach, now I can begin my lessons again and get my stiff fingers moving. You explain things clear and easy to understand, so let's get down Baby, by the way your still looking good 🌹❤️
My permanent doubt remains: start with or without the own instrument. How to find the exact time to buy it, and where. How to “evaluate” the instrument without knowing to play a single note. Million dollar questions I still have no answer.
Just buy an affordable starter instrument and practice it. You will learn about the instrument the more you play it and will gain the knowledge you seek after hours of practice.
Probably buy a starter instrument from a known brand around 250-300USD then sell it when you know what you want. You need the instrument to learn and starter prices already give you a decent one !
I agree with all these great suggestions, and would add that you should find an instrument (at any price that fits your budget) that sparks joy in you. It’s color, and shape and definitely it’s sound - there’s no need to be an expert to simply fall in love with a certain instrument’s sound and feel, just need to trust your instincts.
I started leasing an Ibanez SR300 + Warwick amp for a minimum of 6 months paying a monthly rate and having the option of buying both off (some shops do this). First 3 months were pretty hard on my fingers and ego. After 6 months I loved it, so I kept the bass and upgraded the amp to a Fender Rumble. Next year I did the same with a Roland portable drum kit that I upgraded after 6 months to a better non-portable one. I still play both drums and bass almost every day. I would recommend this option to anybody. If after 6 months you don’t enjoy playing, then give it back and move on. The monthly rates are cheaper than the private classes :)
Thanks for the lesson. Nice to see you back on RUclips.
