I think 'Now You're Mine' was used for the Air Jordan 17 commercial. Which was 10 yrs after the song came out. Timeless music.

#1 to me has always been "The Planet". Grew up listening to it and always felt I could relate to the coming of age tale. Legendary album.

Alongwaytogo - that organ sample is incredible and guru snapped. The q tip cuts at the end too
Words from the nutcracker- I wish this was a full song. The beat was a foreshadowing of what he would do on that group home album. Wish guru had a verse on this

Thanks for this. "Hard to earn" is one of my top 15 Rap albums of all time. My favorites are "Mass appeal", "Code of the streets", "Comin' for dat---". Honorable mention "The Planet", "Tonz of Gunz", and the 92 single "D.W.Y.C.K".
Hard To Earn is their best album and it ain't even close imo. Glad to see y'all keeping up with these top 3 vids btw they are my favorite.

Classic LP!! Too many bangers, difficult to disagree with anyone's picks BUT these are my TOP 3

Gang Starr is my ATF hip hop act and for me this is their best album. Mostly because Premo's production is at G-O-D level. 1994 was an unbelievable year for him. The best 3 songs are "Mass Appeal", "Code of the Streets" and "DWYCK". But my 3 favorite songs on the album are completely different.
#1 is "Speak Ya Clout". The beat Jeru rhymes over is insane. I can't even explain the sound, its super creative. And the transitions are just perfect.
#2 is "Now You're Mine" because like Soren said there was an intensity to Guru's vocals that you don't normally hear. And the beat complements that intensity.
#3 is "Blowin' Up the Spot". Again Guru shone with some clever lyrics and the 2 song George Clinton samples are tight. And like other joints plentiful scratching on the chorus.

Yes! This is also MY favorite Gang-starr album! It's the standout singles AND the presence of the Gang-starr Foundation that set this apart from Moment of Truth. Dwyck, Code of The Streets, Mass Appeal, Suckas Need Bodyguards. Album cuts such as Tonz 'O Gunz, Mostly The Voice, Words From The Nutcracker, Speak Ya Clout, Blowin' Up The Spot, Alongwaytogo and Now Your Mine are all fantastic! 10/10
Another bonified classic Hip-Hop album!!! Nice selections. My top 3 are: Blowin' Up The Spot, Mass Appeal and Suckas Need Bodyguards.
