100% true. I honestly don't think that it takes a lot to be a high school cheerleader, but to be a competitive cheer it takes a lot of energy and time.

To all the people saying 'cheer still isn't a sport try *insert other sport here* then tell me if cheers a sport' ect. I used to play basketball (competitively for about 6-7 years) although I decided it wasn't really my thing. After I stopped basketball I found videos of Gabi butler stretching on RUclips. I made it my goal to be as flexible as her. 2 years later. I made my goal. I tried out for the cheer team. Made it. And I was thrilled. I also expected basing to be easy. Seems like it right? They always use the small girls and it takes two of you to lift her? Wrongggg. My first stunt camp ever was a huge eye opener. I then realized how hard it is to hold a girl above your head while she twists herself into different body positions. If she falls you better expect to be on the floor with a flyer in your hands. The flyer comes first. After the first day of camp 3 girls left with ice packs and blood on their clothes. Of course after the 3 hours of camp. Something about cheer is that if you fall or get hurt you have to keep going with a smile on your face and act like nothing happens. Any other sport if someone gets hurt. The entire game stops. You lay on the ground for a while until someone helps you off whatever you play on while the crowd claps and someone goes in your place. I'm not saying bad things about other sports. All sports are hard and take time and dedication. All I'm saying is, we respect your sport, why not respect ours. It's hard enough what we do, and we also have to deal with stereotypes and people telling us our sport is "easy". Sorry it's so long, it's just something I'm very passionate about(:

Being born not flexible, it took me 2 years to be one, cheer, like other sports takes hard work and determination, and the hardest about being the flyer, trusting your base while you're being thrown in the air and do crazy stunts. No, cheerleaders aren't dumb and popular. 7-10 hours of school, go home and do your homework for half an hour to an hour, go to practice, usually 3-4 hours daily. It's so hard to rest in between. We respect your sport, why not respect ours?
people judge all star cheerleaders by the stereotypes they see in movies where the cheerleaders are dumb and popular and have no athletic ability well guess what life isn't a movie so why don't u actually learn some facts before you start chanting cheer isn't a sport this is to the haters

cheerleading is to a sport...we through 100 lb and + girls i the air, we do a whole 2 minute and 30 second long routine with stunts,jumps,dance,and tumbleing no stop. also we put ouur lifes in others hands to throw uus into the air multiple times and we need to condition/run and practice atleast 3 times a week for 2 hours atleast my team does. now if anyone thinks cheerleading isnt a sport think again and thik to your self "could i do that?'' i dont think soo!!!!

I have done football soccer and baseball competitively all for 2 years and cheer for 4 and cheer is the hardest thing I've ever done I've broken 6 bones passed out and much more never even got hurt in any other sport btw I'm on a level 5 unrestricted team

this is such a great video. i'm not a cheerleader but i went to a cheer camp 2 years in a row and i did gymnastics for a long time when i was younger. to the comment down below saying "how is soccer a sport" well it's a sport the same way gymnastics is a sport. it takes hardwork, practice and determination. I played soccer for 9 years, i had 2 practices a day, morning and night, and it was just as tough as the cheer camp i went to. i admire cheerleaders and every athlete out there.

I am 12 years of age and I am on a level six Allstar cheer team. (the levels are 1 to 6) I am a flyer. (The one the through up in the air) sometimes I have 18 year-old men chucking me up and catching me. you still don't believe cheer is a sport. Try doing a split, tuck, to a Ariel in the air and being caught on your feet in an extension. exactly. Also, school cheer is different then Allstar cheer. when you walk into a Allstar gym like mine in California you might expect to see skinny girls holding pom poms. Wrong agine! I have never held pom poms in my life and I have been doing cheer for 10 years now!
And to those who say it's not a sport look it up the USAFS classifies it as a sport and it meets all the criteria of a sport, we compete, there is skill required, and there is a judging system so how about you guys research it before you say it's not

I would like to thank because for a just a minute I wanted to quit cheer. I was done with it. It caused me so much pain but when I watched this I realized that there was a reason I started it in the first place. Pushed myself so hard to be noticed by my coach and I am so happy I did.

I never did cheerleading growing up. :-( It isn't big in England so there were no local cheerleading squads near the town I'm from. All we had to settle with is majorette troupes which was the closest thing to cheerleading. The most we could do in competitions were some of the jumps as anything where our feet go over our heads are classed as gymnastic moves and were illegal. I have so much respect for all you girls who 'cheer' as I can only dream of doing half the stunts and tumbles you do.
