It's so sad that the parks dept will only value the land and let the house fall into ruin. We had a similar thing happen around here. These old folks left their farm to the conservation dept. The home was all log and so were the wonderful big barn and all the outbuildings. They were proud of their farm and kept it immaculate. You should see it now. It breaks my heart.
What a find, it's nice to see practically no vandalism just natural decay but really the house wasn't that bad it's definitely can be fixed, just imagine what it could have been or what it was once before. I wonder if that underground pool house was a work in process or was destroyed by the weather since it looks like it was unfinished, to me it doesn't look like vandalism.
Amazing tour, thanks! It takes 5 mins to Google who this belonged to and the history behind his house, but it's well worth the search and very interesting. There are a few news stories showing the house when it was in operation. The owner produced his own cleaning product under the swimming pool!
I'm not sure why mentioning his name seems to be an issue but regarding the phone in the bathroom, I found this interesting little story about him: The man put his name, address and phone number on the label of "his product". Customers sometimes called him in the middle of the night, and he would get up to take their orders. So he really did do business while doing his business!!
Those containers you were wondering about are generally used for heating oil, which I'm sure he needed way out in the middle of no where with no access to natural gas lines. He could have heated his pool with it maybe as well. I've never seen so many in one spot though, it's possible the oil truck couldn't get up there in the winter so he had to make sure he had enough to last all winter. The spiral staircases were in a weird spot right beside the pool like that, pretty cool place.
+Michael Mccarthy Those are definitely heating oil tanks. If you have any info that says they were used for something else I would be interested in your theory. That house would be very hard to keep warm in the cold weather.
+billy mccabe I can see that. The two extra large ones outside were kerosene or diesel I can tell that.. But the white ones were interesting. But they could have been for the same thing. I know my estranged in-laws had a diesel water heater for the pool... one of the last put in in our county because of regulations. I Love the stair case too. I figured there'd be a glass window down there where you could see the partiers and the partiers could see the swimmers. :)
+Tim Mac I'd be more apt to think - where the tanks are located, that they could have also been used to heat the pool water. One or two tanks total would keep the house supplied all winter, especially since it's base is stone & concrete.
I really like his rustic/hippy/craftsman eclectic style. Fixed up I would totally be happy living there. It's NOT just the phone in the loo either lol..before cell phones it always seemed like the minute you were, um, "occupied", the phone would ring...
OMG Are you alone? I hope you are armed. You are one brave young man!!! Thanks for sharing this walk with the rest of us. I loved your video!! Say what you want but I would have so taken the first lamp.
Cynthia Mason That place looks so beautiful in the morning, so peaceful but at night I bet it was very scary I wonder if this man even encountered a bear.
@3:38 TSH test. A TSH test measures the amount of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in your blood. A high TSH result often means an underactive thyroid gland that is not responding adequately to the stimulation of TSH due to some type of acute or chronic thyroid dysfunction. Rarely, a high TSH result can indicate a problem with the pituitary gland, such as a tumor producing unregulated levels of TSH. The rotary dial phone by the crapper is excellent. The pool area looks like it was unfinished. The rebar sticking straight up indicates that. This Nebraska or Colorado? I searched for the name Evans w/ Skull bone creek got nothing Love the intro of the exterior and you going from room to room with the flashlight.
I used to skate his pool back in the 80’s with a buddy of mine that lived in The area. I knew Don pretty well. He was a weird dude!! He had bought the rights to a cleaning compound called OFF! I’ve been in that place many a time back in my high school days
Aww I started to watch this, figured out who he was, found an interview of him here on YT in his house and on his property, and now I'm going to watch this entirely. Seems like a hell of a guy. Thanks for this :)
Wow, I just hit the subscribe button after stumbling across this awesome video. Once I started watching, I couldn't stop, so interesting, and super creepy. I have a thing for abandoned houses. I'll be checking out your other ventures now. Thanks for sharing!
the big concrete plant thing he was talking about towards the end i dont think it ever had plants in it. When I went there Don the owner had a black n white picture of a naked woman in that planter laid back . very cool
I hate it when nice houses are vandalized. This may sound a bit OCD but I would love to see a RUclips group that goes into the nice houses that have been vandalized and clean them up. How cool would that be. I'm not talking about major clean up but just picking up and straightening up. if you know of any RUclips groups that do that let me know please. I loved this video. one of my favs. thank you.
Cool house and grounds. The area under the pool patio looks like it might have been a green house? Very eccentric old man, maybe a bird watcher? love it ty for sharing
20:55 Those were most likely oil tanks to heat the pool. Seems to me that a very lovely, large pool house was being built. The house looks like it was new construction upon a much older existing cottage. Very oddly cobbled together. Seems like the rooms were very tiny. It's such a shame that it's being neglected as it is. Too bad a preservation group or society isn't trying to preserve it at the very least instead of letting it rot away. Imagine having a lovely resting area, little restaurant or inn, there. Thanks for posting this!
I wonder if he did some manufacturing under the pool there. You passed several skids of new still flat cardboard boxes. Maybe that was why so many tanks. That was a large area under the pool. Seems it never was finished though.
I fell in love with this place! In my mind's eye, I could see it in all of it's glory from back in the day. It would have been amazing to live there during it's heyday! First video viewed of yours, am now a subscriber. I like your thoughtful, slow exploration. Thanks for the share. :o)
+hms1609 -- Not a bad idea to have the phone in the bathroom because before wireless phones, seemed every time I went to the bathroom the phone would ring and there was no "caller ID" back then, you just had to wait until they called again or until the "*69" number came into being. What state is this in?
Looks like it was quite old & then renovated with cheap exterior siding that slumped off. The windows & chandeliers are at least 100 years old. Stone houses are pretty common on the east coast, especially in Pennsylvania & Maryland. Media mail is for stuff like CDs, DVDs, & magazines.
Looks like he was mixing and selling his cleaning products from under his pool. Just look at the pallets of shipping cartons and the row of repurposed fuel oil tanks in a row.
great cottage to rest and relax.. love it.. I have the same kind of that green vacuum cleaner.. same color ..amazing to see that in an abandoned house.. anyway you wrote above that no one can enter the house right? then how did you manage to enter? and wont the vandals enter and destroy the place? it will be awful if they do that.. i hope they have a security system to protect the house..and good if they do .. glad that you escape without any harm... great video..
+Peter R I'd say right in between 1996 & 2000 the latest. That Moss would not grow like a bush on a roof in 3 years.. The "newest" thing he owned is the TV by his bed. It's about 1999/2000. The rest of his stuff is ancient. The clothes shown were in fashion in the mid 1980's.
Nice video!!! What an absolutely bizarre place. I'd love to know more about who owned it. Clearly he was rich, and had taste...but the design and execution of how it's built is madness lol. Fancy clothes, and a phone in the toilet...contrasted with the bare wood walls and atrocious architectural aspects lol,...I love it!!
Yes! That's it! Before I read your comment, I was trying to think who he reminded me of! Mr. Rodgers might not approve of all the beer bottles in the neighborhood, though!
Wow this place is cool...I love all the natrual stone walls this place must have been gorgeous in it's prime!!!! Damn where do you find these places!!!!
It is so nice to see an old abanded house that is left to decay on his own without being ript or thrown to bits.there is a allot of history of the bachelors life in his home. so sad to see a full life of a person just disapear after death. so sad.
For those who want a more intimate experience of what this place was all about, watch this 1988 video of the property: ruclips.net/video/ihD0iR1x6k0/видео.html

this house is beautiful! I loved the small 'observation post' above the attic, and the windows are all so cool. I would definitely want to live there if it wasn't you know, abandoned.
would those big bins under the house be something he made some of his cleaning products in maybe? The concrete structure may be where someone, or a pet is buried or ashes, looks like shrine of some sort or a marker, maybe a well.
Near the end, you showed all those big containers downstairs in the structure at the pool. Those appear to be 200 gallon heating oil tanks, but I've never seen so many in one place. What a place. I'm trying to imagine it before it was abandoned. I could live there, no problem! Here in NJ, no matter how far out in the country you go, an abandoned building will get destroyed by vandals. I Love the stone walls in the rooms and that chandelier is gorgeous. I don't understand why there's no dust. I live on a dirt road and can't keep the dust out of everywhere or anywhere. and this is abandoned. Not even the paper on the tables and counters have dust. Interesting. Cool indoor Widow's Walk though. Very Cool. Seems the kind of place and person to create a Basement/shelter. Interesting place.
Dust comes from use. Dirt blown in from the outside through open doors and windows but the most common type of household dust is the dead skin of the inhabitants. Close a place up and keep everyone out = no dust.
This place looks as though the man went out one day, and just didn't come back! It's a nice old place. Too bad no one can really enjoy it as it was intended. I would have guessed he (owner) dealt in real estate, from the checks in the file cabinet.
A beautiful cottage home. It looks like it was abandoned about 20 to 30 years ago, by the looks of what's in there. By the looks of that bedroom, someone could be squatting there, what with the gatorade and the clothes and that mattress. They don't look old.
Haha. I'm sitting here at work... at a Sisters of Mercy hospital... and when I heard him say that the hair stood up on my neck. Funny stuff.
It looks to me like scavenged building materials, the arches were clearly unfinished with their rebar sticking out the top
+HappyQuailsFarm Yep, clearly a work in progress.
Amazing tour, thanks! It takes 5 mins to Google who this belonged to and the history behind his house, but it's well worth the search and very interesting. There are a few news stories showing the house when it was in operation. The owner produced his own cleaning product under the swimming pool!
Very gothic, old english style cottage....I love too!
Love the time lapse opening sequence, this exploration was truly magical, so worth the hike....thank you!
You know,it's nice to have all theses documentary, and it take lot of courage to do that , And i simply love it
Hi i"m from Malaysia, this cottage are extremely gorgeous and livable. Only in my wildest dream that i could own one! Thank you for this great video.
Hi BackyardExplorer
WOW !!!!!

they should restore it its so beautiful that scenery with the hills in the distance... nice little gem

Deanna Stevens, There was a glass window down beside the pool. It is shown in a home movie. The link at the top of these comments.
22:57 Seems to be a brazier, used to light fires for lighting, mainly back before electricity, hence the place's medieval look.
I really like his rustic/hippy/craftsman eclectic style. Fixed up I would totally be happy living there. It's NOT just the phone in the loo either lol..before cell phones it always seemed like the minute you were, um, "occupied", the phone would ring...
I loved how you actually looked at the papers. thats what interests me
I spend my weekends watching these videos and I love every minute of it! Keep up the good work!
this place is my dream house. Thanks for sharing. It enriched my day.
Great story on this guy. I remember his product too. This will be a beautiful state park. That is an incredible donation.

Great video, certainly a different house & grounds. I actually liked that big flower pot. Thanks & be safe out there.
Neat place, neat guy!I found the info on google before reading the video description. I hope they keep the house in some sort of decent shape.

he made a cleaning cream in tanks. Been in house when done was alive. Nothing was finished. he said he had a lot of unfinished projects.

am i the only one who seen all the peanut butter there was like 5 just in the bedroom
+Ryan Goebel peanut butter has more protien in it . than eggs. and it doesnt go bad.
+Ryan Goebel maybe he had alot of dogs who knows rich people go crazy
+Ryan Goebel I was about to comment about that. xDDD
+Nathan Dean actually it does indeed go bad...totally rancid. most peanut butter on the store shelves is rancid before hitting the shelves.

that why it chuck full of all those chems an all that salt.
I laughed at that telephone..... gotta do business while you doing your business?? XD
+hms1609We had one in our bathroom too because my mom always said "Where are you every time it rings?".

Wow! This is amazing. Thanks so much for sharing..... Very interesting!❤️🙏🏼
I want to live there!!!!!🌹
There's thousands of these abandoned castles in the PA and NY woods...rotting away with no heirs apparent.
Exquisite!!! Great job fellas
Best Abandoned I have experienced so far well done UE. Amway Guru ?
some people keep a phone in the bathroom in case they fall and need help. elderly people had those phones installed quite frequently
great cottage to rest and relax.. love it.. +asankaw1 Well the house is not accessible, so I'm not too worried about people getting in and vandalizing it. The state has it secured
+BackyardExploration good to hear that. .great video
i would love to live in that house and restore it back to how it once was..i bet it was amazing. ❤
i bet every viewer thinks of that at some point but 2 question: 1) who are you going to buy it from? and 2) how much would the reconditioning cost?
Looking at the decay and the Check Stubbs in the cabinet along with the cassette tapes 1996 is probably when this place was abandoned
+Peter R The man died in 2012.
Peter R He lived there until at least 2010. That was the last time we visited him.

BackyardExploration Bummer, the Rock House video is not available.
BackyardExploration I just watched it!
I wish all exploring videos had the new and old version makes you feel like you where there.
The time lapse at the beginning was a nice touch.
Amazing place, excellent video! Are there plans to restore it, or will it remain in a state of arrested decay?
"Is it wierd to go through all this paperwork and personal information? I probably shouldn't be doing that."
*continues going through paperwork and personal information.
It looks like a millionaire bought and old fashioned cabin, THEN built those other nicer stories around it.
this house is beautiful! I loved the small 'observation post' above the attic, and the windows are all so cool. I would definitely want to live there if it wasn't you know, abandoned.
I wish there was places like this in Manitoba, Canada. Crazy!
+Opening Things You'd be surprised! There are probably more than a few great locations where you live!
dam thats a nice place what a shame it fell apart like that .
Those big metal oval things are for heating oil. We had one of those in my childhood home many years ago....
would those big bins under the house be something he made some of his cleaning products in maybe? The concrete structure may be where someone, or a pet is buried or ashes, looks like shrine of some sort or a marker, maybe a well.
Great video your content has really improved. Keep it up
I think that they would have a flame going in the " concrete thing " it would be seen through the woods as a signal for partytime.
the concrete towards the end of the video was probably a land marker to display where the end of your property was
Agree.
It's the owners grave. He was buried there, as he wished. It is mentioned in a documentary.
That stone work was very nice
I'm off to goggle 'get twisted with Jason the balloon guy' haha :D
Love this! Awesome place!
Nice scenery in all the back ground
really cool I have explored a few abandoned places wish I had video of it like you.
Awesome and the tanks in the under part of the pool area were heaters. The pool must have been a heated pool.
Nice introduction with the timelapse!
Quite the gem. Didn't notice any vandalism or tagging.
..love the design of the home itself...very interesting
Near the end, you showed all those big containers downstairs in the structure at the pool. Those appear to be 200 gallon heating oil tanks, but I've never seen so many in one place.
What a place. I'm trying to imagine it before it was abandoned. I could live there, no problem!
Here in NJ, no matter how far out in the country you go, an abandoned building will get destroyed by vandals. That's a guarantee, and that sucks. I can think of two separate properties that were taken over by the Park Service, and the houses were destroyed on the inside by vandals. It's unbelievable.
Can you imagine how gorgeous that place would be all fixed up!!! I want it, too bad I'm poor as hell!!!!
amazing cottage!!! I could so live there. The spiral stair case by the pool is really odd.
I wouldn't go to a lot of these abandoned places without adequate protection, never know what kind of threats might be around.
Great video pool area looks awesome!
wow this place is amazing!!!
This is awesome, thank you;-)
I Love the stone walls in the rooms and that chandelier is gorgeous. Interesting place.
the ghosts obviously use the green vacuum. lol
The "oil drums" were the chemicals for the product he manufactured and sold.
wow it's beautiful!
THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER DURING THE DAY. WHAT AN AMAZING PLACE THO
Very interesting looking cottage :)
i see so many stories in this house!
this place is in the middle of nowhere. good video :)
Love all the windows...the natural light ....wouldnt want to clean them, then again he could afford a window cleaner
I might be dumb but how is all that stuff left there? Especially medical results and stuff. WOW!
I am glad you all know who lived there.
A beautiful cottage home. It looks like it was abandoned about 20 to 30 years ago, by the looks of what's in there. By the looks of that bedroom, someone could be squatting there, what with the gatorade and the clothes and that mattress. They don't look old.
Yes, that Busch beer case in the trash looked very recent.
