Lyrics
One less bell to answer...
One less egg to fry
One less man to pick up after
I should be happy
But all I do is cry
(Cry cry no more laughter)
Oh, I should be happy
(Oh, why did he go?)
I only know that since he left
My life's so empty
Though I try to forget
It just can't be done
Each time the doorbell rings
I still run (I still run)
I don't know how in the world
To stop thinking of him
'Cause I still love him so
(Love him so)
I end each day the way I start out
Crying my heart out
Oh...
One less man to pick up after...
No more laughter...
No more love... (no more love)
Since he went
Oh, he went away
(He went away)
(One less bell to answer)
Why did he leave me?
(Oh why why did he leave?)
Now I've got one less egg to fry (one less bell to answer)
One less egg to fry
(Oh why why did he leave?) And all I do is cry
(One less bell to answer) Because my man told me goodbye
(Oh why why did he leave?)
(One less bell to answer) Somebody tell me please where did he go? why did he go?
(Oh, why?) Tell me how could he leave me
(Why did he leave?)
Burt Bacharach & Hal Davis + Marilyn McCoo & 5th Dimension = greatness
Easily the most underrated performer of her generation.
Back in the day, Marilyn Mccoo broke a _lot_ of hearts. A tremendous combination of a nice person, an angelic voice, and great physical beauty. They don't make many like her, that's for sure.
Abs
Back in the day Hal David and the genius Burt Bacharach were brilliant songwriters this was one of my favorites that they wrote besides all the hits that they wrote for Dionne Warwick and many others that I can't name right now. Burgess had a way with writing good lyrics and found artist that delivered on them.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
She is one of the most underrated singers of the 70s.
@@lisa196409 Who the hell is "Burgess"???
We just lost the writer of this song, Burt Bacharach. RIP Burt. Wonderful lyric by Hal David . They left us some many great tunes!
Marilyn McCoo had/has an amazing voice, the phrasing and passion shows through instantly, agreed.
Imagine if she all of a sudden broke out into death metal vocals! Lol
Marilyn McCoo's voice is up there on the same level as Karen Carpenter and Judith Durham. Pure beauty.
As a kid, when seeing her for the first time. I wondered how anyone could be so beautiful.
This group was a MAJOR force in the music world in the day. I had a CRUSH on Marrilyn as a young guy. What a great voice with looks and a wonderful personality ❤️
These guys ruled the tv and radio for a bunch of years in the 70s great music great vocals❤
Perfect voice perfect group perfect song.
Billy Davis Jr and Marilyn were amazing! They are the nicest people you could ever meet. I met Billy and he gave me a personal tour of his studio. Super great people!
Marilyn McCoo is amazing, and this song is so powerful. It really resonates with anyone who's lost a loved one, too. That horrible empty feeling that just won't go away - I really feel it when she sings.
Marilyn has such a pleasant voice, one of the greatest singers ever. She married Billy Davis who was in the group, still married. Other very good songs: Sweet Blindness, Wedding Bell Blues, Stoned, Soul Picnic Aquarius and more very successful!!!
Loved them back in the day! 💖
one of my favorite songs of all time .. thank you for this Wolf HunterZ ..
Fantastic music. I wish more people would hear this
I had a feeling you'd do this one. A classic, my mom used to play on the piano and my aunt would sing. Memories.
Love Love Love them
This reminds me of something Dionne Warwick would do. Marilyn McCoo was actually hosted "Solid Gold" after Dionne Warwick left.
That's because this song was written by Burt Bacharach & Hal David. They basically launched Dionne's musical career and wrote 90% of her hits. They also wrote for a lot of other great artists. They did the Carpenters' "Close to You".
Marilyn McCoo has amazing pipes and has always been a great beauty. Her voice is so smooth & pure (like Karen Carpenter, KD Lang, Lulu, Streisand, Ronstadt and Celine Dion). My favorite 5th Dimension song is "Love's Lines, Angles & Rhymes". Gonna suggest 3 somewhat obscure but incredible songs for you to review; Sanford-Townsend Band "Smoke From a Distant Fire", "Thunder & Lightning" by Chi Coltrane and the 1st garage band/punk hit from the 60s "Dirty Water" by The Standells. Check them out!
Marilyn Maccoo is a phenomenal singer with an equally phenomenal voice❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The song was written by Burt Baccarat that is why the orchestra is so full sounding
Marilyn married Billy Davis Jr. (the short guy), they have been together for over 50 years.
Marilyn McCoo=Genetic perfection.
Marilyn Mccoo is a GREAT singer
And a beautiful lady.
From that long ago, summer of 1970, written by Burt Bacharach & Hal David, arranged & produced by Bones Howe, at Gold Star Studio. ------Marilyn MCCoo-----Billy Davis jr------Lamont Maclemore----Florence LaRue, & Ron Townson. ---------Marilyn had a full 4 1/2 octave range voice. ---------------------------MJL, 76 y/o
She can still sing also. And her and Billy have been married 53 years I believe that's right. I remember seeing this on it's fist showing. Yeah, I am an ancient container. With 39yo (sometimes 12yo) in that old container.
Y'all be safe.
I had such a huge crush on Marilyn McCoo when i was a teenager. Such a beauty and what a gorgeous voice.
Ya know, I never told you this, but Marilyn said she really liked you, but you were just too shy to speak to her! Man, to think you actually had a chance and let it slip away!
Burt Bacarach wrote this tune a prolific song writer he wrote songs for a multitude of singers.....
RIP Burt Bacharach
I've always had a crush on Marilyn McCoo. Back in the 80's she hosted the show Solid Gold for a brief time.
Love love this
Marilyn and her husband Billy on her left here recorded the original 'Saving All My Love for You', later made famous by Whitney Houston and co-written by Michael Masser (with Gerry Goffin, Carole King's ex-husband and writing partner), who also wrote her 'The Greatest Love of All'.
Wow! 5th grade memories!
Oh my !!! I remember when this came out !!! Damn I'm old !!!
Marilyn & Billy (the shorter male) are still together, so he could never leave it seems.
In her lane so to speak there was no one better at the time or maybe since. Few singers can make you feel the song McCoo could. She could make you feel the pain or joy too. Judith Durham, Amy Lee, Linda Ronstadt and Marilyn McCoo have voices that were and are special. All 4 made it or make it sound so easy to do when it surely is not.
She actually married a member of the group, Billy Davis Jr., and they're still married like 50 years later.
So NO, nobody was leaving this fox in real life. 🙂
They had a hit song about their relationship before they got married ... "Wedding Bell Blues" ... cute song.
By the great Laura Nyro, iirc.
Metal heads watching Soul Train . 😂
Marilyn McCoo was apparently an elementary school teacher back in the day.
Love ya guys....please do much of Karen Carpenter!!
Incredible song! The lyrics were written by a man too.
I just wanted to tell you that I really appreciated your comments about living and working together and the realities of being in close proximity to each other for many hours each and every day. It’s very apparent to me how much you love each other. You can’t fake that for this long. I’m sure there are differing opinions from time to time. Show me someone who pulls off the several different things you do all at once and don’t have some moments and I’ll show you a liar. You are great you guys and I enjoy the heck out of your reaction. To me the perfect reactor always enters a new song should have a completely open mind. Anything that came out 40,50 years ago will more than likely sound slightly strange. They did things different back then. I being an older guy find new music to me somewhat strange to me. But I appreciate what goes into making music. It’s not easy even if I don’t like it I think you yourself know how much effort went into let’s say your song Lock Shields I think it was. I really enjoyed your performance. You checked off one of the most important things in music. Put together a great stage show. You got the look. You got the voice. Great projection Susie. Your personal experiences in the music industry are very helpful in your kind of insiders point of view. Sorry I’m always long but I just wanted to thankyou for doing a great job. And that’s applies to everyone in your band who do a nice job as well.
well that's actually her husband standing and singing next to her. Lol.
Susie, you have the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen, and I'm 66.
Hey guys,
1st time I’m watching your channel, and you’re reviewing one of my all time fav ballads!
This song is a classic and it still holds up today as an example of musical excellence!
Marilyn McCoo was blessed with an amazing voice!
Besides this selection, I have to say that I admire the two of you! I enjoyed watching you guys as much as I enjoyed your critique! You two have great chemistry and a great on screen presence!
Besides which he’s adorable and she is drop dead gorgeous! (Sorry I don’t know your names)
I enjoyed this clip immensely and I’ll continue to watch!
😊❤
I was 11 !!!
ALSO CHEC K OUT HER SONG .......... " IF I COULD REACH YOU " ........ FANTASTIC 👍👍👍👍👍
Back when music was real...
The floor is the bottom shelf
Her and her husband are actually still together
Less celebrated among their BEST songs are:
Skinny Man
Loves, Lines, Angles and Rhymes
Everything's Been Changed
Carpet Man
I think you'd love all these and pretty much their entire catalog.
Burt Bacharach wrote the music. Hal david the liricks.marilyn mcoo lead vocal .amasing women still performs
A lot of good nameZ !
You must check ✔️ out THE BLACKBYRDS 1974 SPACED OUT
You should react to wedding bell blues
Hey guys randomly found you guys the other day and I have to say your music if fire!!!!! Not gonna lie it was the oddko song disobey. You NEED to check out their latest song kitty girl. It's about people using their looks to manipulate people but don't realize age catches up to them and their reign dies.
One Less Set of Footsteps--Jim Croce
Maybe dude just wanted scrambled eggs?
I think he left because she couldn't fry an egg right.
Marilyn McCoo is definitely one of the greats.
YOU 2 NEED TO STOP TALKING-----LISTEN TO & RESPECT THE MUSIC I GREW UP TO. -------MJL, 76 Y/O
Sings amazing, etc. ha ha That's it??
do you talk about laura nero who rote this? the dimention was great i yhave a lot to recomend.. to keep it short. dont cha a personal fav and the other laura nero song wedding bell blues
None better than Marilyn...
Jeez. It took over 3 1/2 minutes to get to the song. Then you stop it to weigh in after barely 1 verse.....frustrating. Why not listen to the song FIRST and then give your impression? It's more about y'all than it is the subject song.............
What? Your family didn't use spices? Ummm.....
Just a song. She was and a wonderful singer but she has no ties to the song. She's standing next to her husband Bill Davis Jr.
I don't understand the big smiles throughout this video. Isn't a natural "reaction" to me.
You are stoping too much the video to say things that we already know ..do your comments after !!!!
Dude, you're (theoretically) a grown man - and you leave clothes on the floor?
Seriously, what the hell's the matter with you?
You do understand that such things occur from children and not adults, don't you?
Given Suzy's primary issue with you, that's fairly ignorant and lazy behavior on your behalf.
You seem like a good guy, but I'll state it again - be better, brother.
RE the song featured in this video - I'm both happy and proud that you did such a deep dive on an absolute CLASSIC.
Ms. McCoo and Mr. Davis (two extraordinary and beautiful people) and company were an essential part of the music scene back then and this song perfectly illustrates the beauty which occurs from an amazing vocal melody/performance over an equally amazing composition of music - and with her voice, Ms. Davis could reach into your heart and soul and make you feel whatever she was emoting.
The song was written by Burt Baccarat that is why the orchestra is so full sounding
