The music of Hawaii has such a calming effect that my eyelids are getting droopy 😌🙂↕️ in a subtly drifting manner. It's so relaxing with the island's serene scenic view, just like how Orpheus' lyre could charm everything around him with its beauty and tranquility, and even effortlessly put them to sleep. 😴
Wow that's smooth especially when the chorus comes in with all the slants. The harmonics were awesome, and the melody and harmony sounded like two different people with the slight rhythmic differences - just amazing.
That’s it, the Charlie Christian pickup. I was wandering from where you’re getting that beautiful sound. Please let me know how you do it. Thanks, Errol
Hi Mike! I was wondering, what strings do you use? I've been playing lap steel guitar for a few months now and I use GHS Custom C6th strings, but they seem a little bit to twangy for me. Also this sounds amazing! Keep up the good work!
Hi Braeden, Sorry I have only noticed your post. The strings are the ones that came with the instrument so are a few years old. I remember having to swap a few around to get the C6 tuning. Your strings will be fine. The big thing about the sound I get is by using the the little Yamaha THR10 set to the acoustic setting. A great mellow sound for steel guitar!
Hi ! I was wondering if i could use your performance as a soundtrack in my vlog? It's only for me and my family, my videos aren't monetized. let me know if you're okay with it, it's exactly the vibe i was looking for hehe ^^ Love what you do, cheers
@@MikeHollandGuitarSweet Jesus! I knew it! I had a thr5 and sold it but am going to get the thr10. I even missed the 5 it just was only 5 watts. Amazing little amps they are. Thanks so much!
Hello Mike, how are you? i have the same Epiphone Lap Steel. Where did you get that pickup and which specific model it is? the stock pickup is not bad but i am sure it can be better. Thank you and by the way amazing playing!
Hi Jose, Unfortunately the manufacturer of this pickup passed away a few years ago. Any quality single coil pickup will be a great improvement to the stock pickup in my view! Mike
no fake thumbnail, no overexagerated title, no tik tok split screen mania, just plain old guitar playing. Just as a marvelous as something could be!
Yeah!!!!
WELCOME TO HAWAII 🤗🥰
Background: This song was composed by the Last Hawai’i Monarch, Queen Liliuokalani, 140 years ago before the U.S.A took over Hawai’i
The uke chords fit perfectly. I wish I had those chords to play along with my grandson. Thanks, beautifully done both.

Certainly one of the best I've heard with this type of music
Thank you for your kind comments john!
Good job, my fave Hawaiian song. A real evergreen.....
Aloha Oe is a music that's very much suited to New Year's eve as you witness the last sunset for the year.
Last sunset of the Kingdom of Hawaii
I love this song my dad used to play this on his steel guitar and my Sis and I used to dance. when we were kids.
A lovely memory Elizabeth.... I am relatively new to Hawaiian music but I am enjoying it!
This brought tears to my eyes. Thank you 🙏♥️
same with me, friend
What a touch and feel. Exquisite.
Thank you Derf!

I can never hear a lap steel without thinking of Spongebob DAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Same!
And Nani singing it to Lilo… her metaphoric way of saying “goodbye”
You play so very well. Thank you for sharing your music!

Thank you Doug, Hope you are well!
This is amazing
Thank you for your kind comments Hombre!
If you have a Casio keyboard, you can use its rendition of "Aloha Oe" as an accompaniment
beautiful
Thank you Matthew!
Very good Job, Mike. That Charley Christian style pickup sounds great.
Thank you Jean, The pickup is lovely but I have to say that a lot of the tone I get is the result of using the little Yamaha THR10 amp!
Lovely rendition Mike! I never managed to tame the bar the way you do - especially the slant technique (yeah, I know - practice)! Great sound as well!
Thank you Laurence, I find that having spent my life on fretted instruments there is something very cathartic about sliding around with the steel bar!
Maravilloso Saludos desde México ☕🌹
Gracias Edith!

This is what the electric lap steel guitar was made for: Hawaiian music.
Thank you for all your comments Marvin and I totally agree!

GOO LAGOON
Really good, Mike. I have so much more trouble with the reverse slants for some reason. But, I persist.
Thank you Nittacci, I think we all have trouble with them. They just get a little easier as time goes by!
Can you play the Hawaiian song "Mamula Moon"
Am no music historian but am pretty sure that 1st verses were based on "How Great Thou Art"
Queria sua afinacao muinto lindo som nossa

my friend, this is a work of art. I gotta ask though, did you DI the steel guitar into an interface? or did you mic up an amp?
I connected the little Yamaha THR10 amplifier directly to my computer via a USB cable and recorded directly into a DAW!
What is your tunning? It sounds awesome!!
C6 tuning!
Well done, Mike. I love the sound of your Jedson. Goob job on uke. Your backtracks are perfect. Do you share them ? Where could I find the same ?
Are you plugged into the yamaha thr? It's the acoustic one right? those are amazing
I am Mardas. They are perfect for steel guitar on the acoustic setting!

Was the part at 2:04 overdubbed/corrected? It doesn't match up. Beautiful performance though!!
It is a few years ago but I did not think so!!!! It is in the harmonic section and I have in the past overdubbed fluffed harmonics.
Just looked at it and it does look a bit strange so I think I probably did correct something!
