This was explained in a clear and understandable manner! Just had my first paid photography gig this past weekend and this helped me with the dreaded Lightroom sorting! thanks
I watched this at 1.25 speed, then paused it to make notes. Good tips, easy to follow. I feel the POWER!!! I have been using Lightroom like a pen knife when it can be used like a Swiss army knife! Thank you for sharing your advice!!!
I’ve been frustrated with LR for years. Thank you so much for making these videos! You’re a great teacher. Appreciate the work you put into these videos. Very helpful.
Well done, excellent videos, clearly explained. I've just returned to Lightroom after a few years using other software and I find your clear and detailed instructions just what I want. More please...
I really enjoyed watching your video and can't wait to use this new workflow. Thank you so much for being so detailed and not skipping steps when teaching. Looking forward to your new videos.
I wish I had watched this before trying on my own. Very well done. Question? I tried to make smart collections and made mistakes trying. Is there a way to delete these? I’ve tried with no success.
Yes, here is how to delete a collection or a smart collection. Right click on the collection and go down until you see delete. Click delete. Easy, once you know where to look.
Sure! Highlight the image(s) that you don't want, hit the delete key. When you are in a collection it just deletes it from that collection but it still stays in your catalog. There is another option. Go to "All photographs" from there hit the delete key, now you get a dialog box that asks you: Do you want to delete this image from Lightroom or remove it completely from the hard drive? If you choose delete from Lightroom the image will no longer be seen in this catalog. However, it will remain on your hard drive. If you say remove from hard drive, well then it is gone, gone. I hope this helps. Please share one of my videos with others, if you get a chance.
Great tutorial. Can you create a collection set from collections that have been imported from LR ("albums" from mobile version or whatever they call it)? Or will that cause issues with how the cloud albums are organized?
@@smokeontherocksbbq Collections are a simple way of organizing your images. Nothing gets moved, or misplaced when you using collections. Create a collection, rename a collection or even delete a collection and nothing will affect your overall catalog. Create a collection then drag and drop whatever images you like into it. Dose that help?
Yes, if all goes well, the first one about processing will come out next Tuesday. Hit the subscribe and ring the bell to be notified. Or send me and email and I will let you know. (terry@imagelight.com) - or just check back from time to time.
Terry fantastic video thanks. I do have a question or two please. I don't want multiple catalogues as my photos are not that many, I noticed you loaded 244 images initially until you sorted them in collections, but the 244 are still showing. If you now import more photos this means you have navigate all of the photos again the try and sort the new additions. Am I understanding this right or have I missed a point?? Sorry to sound so dim, I am just starting out in Lightroom and want to get it right at the front end.
No problem let me explain it this way: Under ALL PHOTOGRAPHS - (Library Module > upper left side) this where you complete library is found. So let's say you want to search for a keyword; CLOUDS. Best would be to search ALL PHOTOGRAPHS for this because it will search your whole library. However, if you know something is in a collection, then highlight the collection and search that. At the bottom of that list where you see All Photographs, All Synced Photographs, Quick Collection + and Previous Import. When you load images into your catalog, you can immediately go to Previous Import to just be looking at the new additions. I hope that helps.
Very helpful tutorial! I think it would be beneficial to discuss all the available cataloging options even if you don't personally use them. For example, Folders might be ideal for some users as a way to store images in a broader hierarchy. There is also no mention of Smart Collections. Finally, if for whater reason, the source files are moved to another storage location (e.g. from disk to the cloud), will that disrupt the file paths established in the organizational scheme? Any further light you can shed on these topics is much appreciated. Thx!
HI Eric, those are good ideas. I have showed how to make smart collections in another video - but it was connected to some other subject. I'll revisit that. Also the moved file thing is a great idea, it took me a while to figure that out when I was starting out. Thanks for the ideas.
good video question is when you disconnect sandisk where your photos are stored do you do you plug it back into laptop to work on pictures or are they on lightroom or cloud ? not knowing what i am doing i deleted 1500 outer banks photos thank you
Hi Brian, the way I do it, is to set up the Library ON the Sandisk Hard Drive in the first place. (the first video of this series takes you through that step-by-step. ruclips.net/video/E6QkfQnUkbI/видео.html I even duplicate that drive, and keep them separate from each other while not in use.

I only use LRC with images on the hard drive. So I don't use the LR mobile and so I can't speak to moving cloud images. Sorry.
I mean with Lightroom classic like you showed in the video.

A catalog is more like the Walmart online website, or if you're old like me, a Sears catalog.
Ha, that’s right!
@@tv510 The devil is in the details, but I'm on the spectrum 📷😂👍
Good video but seems really overcomplicated creating so many collections within collections?
Everyone has their own workflow, I have found this works for me. Thanks for watching.
