lately i have been watching some survival videos , woodland foraging vids...when shtf and this helps alot cause I didn't know how to forage on the beaches here in Portland Maine... now when I am poor and don't have enough money for food, this will help...yeet
I have only ever fished before but am getting very interested in coastal foraging . I enjoyed this video very much & also respect that you only take what you need !
Loved the video, very informative. Hope to go down Maine this summer, probably to Lubec...will check for quiet beaches to just walk and enjoy nature. Thank you for this video.
Lucas - I found you by searching for coastal foraging in Maine. I watch a lot of guys who forage in the UK where they catch lobsters. I thought, maine has a lot of lobsters. Wonder if you could catch them coastal foraging style. Anyway, loved this video. You should do a catch and cook video. These are popular too.
I love foraging and maine is my home. I often take my kids to Portland to forage for muscles and lobsters. If you dont mined me asking what beach was this? Oisters are a faveret of mine and i would love to see this place.
Filtering dose make them have less grit thow. I use corn meal. But yes you can eat almost any ocean shell fish without filtering and not need to worry.
@@BestArtist Other than red tide, are there any other sources you check on any current toxins/species you shouldn't eat? I've been trying to find that resource for the state but can't
All native maine seaweeds are edible, of which there are over 200. Most of what you see in this video is rockweed which can be used to make some sauces, and bladderrack which is used in toothpaste and chocolate milk!

Can you share where this was? I have been to Maine every summer for a decade and have never seen any beach like this!
Most beaches in midcoast maine are like this
Where in Maine is this? I’m in York, and have had a lot of luck with clams recently.
where is this oyster heaven? i live in maine. I would like to know the location?
Would you feel safe eating these oysters and mussels? Would you filter them first?
I would feel safe as long as I checked for red tide first.

@@iampbear321 I think your best bet would to be to find a place that buys shellfish from locals gatherers, if anyone knows they would!
@@BestArtist Good idea! I'll have to look around for that.
Maquoit bay?
He bro do you know if any of the sea weeds up here are good eating?
Definitely, but I’m not an expert so might be best to google edible seaweed in Maine and also check for red tide before hunting
Almost all seaweed is edible.
Is the seaweed edible?
Some of it. I'm not sure which is edible but plenty of people collect it.

Any idea what the eel was?
Looks like baby wolf eels to me but I am not sure.
you have not foraged not one thing just pointed out shell fish
Troll
True! But I easily could have put them in a basket and kept them if I wanted to. It wouldn't have changed the video much.
Can't hear most of what you say.
Camera is TOO JERKY. Makes me dizzy.
