    • @morebloomeffect
      @morebloomeffect 6 лет назад +24

      Sure? You can probably get sodium thiosulfate in pool supplies, the in-store pharmacy should sell potassium iodide, you can get liquid starch in the laundry section, sulfuric acid is the main component of acidic drain cleaners, and hydrogen peroxide can be found in the beauty section. None of this is particulary exotic.
      Or you can buy the pure lab-grade chemicals from a supplier like Sigma-Aldrich.

    • @robbyzeppelin1997

      Because if you spill water into acid and a few drops will jump out of the solution it would be dangerous due to its high concentration

    • @chicdesbaffes
      @chicdesbaffes 4 года назад +7

      start with water, pour acid in water, confirmed. Never do the opposite, exothermic reactions can produce instaboiling mixtures and you would get burnt. But 2M H2SO4 is quite weak as a concentration, so no biggie here.

    I repeated these instructions to the letter. (I used 12.5 mL of 1.6 M H2SO4 and I diluted 1 mL of 30%H2O2 to 10 mL but otherwise, exact). I mixed the solutions and ... nothing. After about 4-5 minutes of swirling I noticed the solution turn a light yellow. The color gradually turned a deep amber. The only point that might have introduced error was the vaguely-named "starch solution." Not knowing the precise composition, I made a small amount of solution from Aldrich's "Water soluble Starch" as a saturated solution in distilled water. Was this what was needed or was that my mistake? Have fun and good luck. My clock is still ticking.

    HELP, question:
    I'm looking for a reaction where you start with color (any color is ok) and after a certain time, it becomes colorless. If possible I would like to do it with non-harmful chemicals, because it's going to be an experiment for primary school kids.
    -Start with a color (already set up in the container, if possible use non-harmful chemicals or natural products)
    -Add H2O and it becomes colorless
    -If possible, change the time it takes to become colorless based on the concentration of the initial chemicals/products
    -Use natural products or non-harmful chemicals, as it is an experiment for kids, primary school students.
    Thank you very much.
