I sent my CD to Marshall years back, then spoke to him on the phone when I flew over to Memphis, in the hope of finally meeting him. He spoke to me on the phone and said "look here man, I shoot from the hip and if I dont like what you done I will tell you" Well, he called me back at the Hotel and said he liked what I had done. We met and had a coffee, he had water, in the foyer of the Hotel in Memphis. So glad I met him for a short while. What a legend. RIP Marshall.

Johnny Cash was a force of nature. I am so happy that he re-united with his old friend Marshall Grant. Grant's words here are priceless.

If everyone had a friend like Johnny had in Marshall, the world would be at peace. Even when Johnny treated Marshall like dirt - many times over the years - Marshall was always the one to pull Johnny out of the gutter and stand him on his feet.
Even if he had to do it by himself, even if Johnny pissed all over him.
Rest eternally, Marshall Garnett Grant. You were a bass player's bass player, a powerboat racer second to none, and an inspiration to all would be a friend someone.

Cash did write some great songs, but had it not been for the sparse bass and guitar playing of Luther and Marshall we may have never heard of him...Sam Phillips was the genius that kept it simple with them.

June passed on my birthday, so May 15th, has a very different feel for me now. Every time I go to Nashville, I stop and pay respects at their marker... their music pulled me from some very very dark places....

Boy, can you imagine the music they pickin up there now? Wow, I've watched this over and over many times, and I still cry like a baby. They were a huge part of my life growing up. I combed my hair like Johnny did when I started 3rd grade. Love and miss them all. God bless

the 70's and 80's were such great years. Fantastic for real country music and also for rock and roll. I worked in the country music industry for 30 years. Many Statler Brother shows. Marshall went on after he left the Tennessee Three to work as the Statlers production manager. I worked with him many times and until recently did not know he was one of the Tennessee Two and worked with Cash all of those years. He had never mentioned it. You see I'm a bit younger. Currently 56 so I was just little runt when that was going on. I truly loved real country music though. the big shots in Nashville sure have ruined it. R.I.P. Marshall. You got to live a life most men only dream about.

Ryley Porter Man I would give just about anything to have a sit down with these guys. I’m not really into country but these guys were punk before there was punk. You can’t help but love Johnny and the crew. Every interview I’ve watched they all seem so genuine. I tear up to this day when I watch Johnny talk about June.
They remind me of my family from Kentucky.

blueticecho man money destroys everything I like to think at the end of the day that they found a way for that not to matter as much. Plus they had a bond that as musicians you can’t break. Either way let’s let them rest.
