BSD is greatly popular in Japan, Season 4 got the best 2023 winter anime there. Unfortunately americans love mainstream, show off and heavily action packed series
Yeah, that's kinda unfortunate, especially because Bsd is not your typical shonen anime. The action is more thought on, not just characters fighting without any plan like other shonens. It could be better described as a chess game, where the different parties are taking time to make wise moves, which might annoy full action lovers
I'm here after finishing s5 yesterday, the amount of plot twists this show has and still gives the characters viable options to overcome them is crazy, I'm more surprised that there isn't much discussion about it, great video and nice to have some insight on the staff in Studio D
This show is an absolute masterpiece of shounen writing. By this I mean that most refined formula of writing for shounen with a full grasp of it's strength understands both the value of never taking your foot of the gas and utilizing the telling of a story though action. Good shounen writing should never be a series of hill and crest but rather a set of steps where the action might level of a bit but never falls to a state it was at previously. Bungos plot is essentially " here comes another evil syndicate with a 4d plan to take out the Agency on a particular time scale. How will our heroes get outta this?!" Over and over but with greater intensity each time. It's a simple but satisfying loop of a story and as such never gets stale.
@@benjaminnebenjamin6033 ah who knows, Spice and Wolf had a Mature rating as a manga despite having very little actual violence and nudity while Dead Man Wonderland was hella gory and had like a Teen rating I think. Demographic cannot accurately define genre. It's just the battle Shounen series is such a defined collection of tropes and writing style it can be considered genre.

It’s an alternative universe with Akutagawa as the MC and him getting into ADA, Atsushi being in the Port Mafia, Dazai being the Pm boss, and Oda being alive. (I’m bit biased bcs it’s my fav) 2. “STORMBRINGER” The longest light novel that basically tortures the living the heck outta Chuuya (It’s just a guess because there’s one official art that was made by bones of one of the novel characters) 3. “55 minutes” I personally haven’t read it yet but i think this one have more of the ADA working together more than the other ones Honourable mention: If they’re going to adapt BEAST I hope they make some kinda prequel of the new light novel “the day I picked up Dazai” (how Oda and Dazai met and it’s so so funny and cute)

My husband and I started Bungo Stray Dogs recently, we finished the anime and we caught up with the manga entirely and we finally found our first piece of merchandise at a store today! It was a little Atsushi keychain and now he lives on my phone. We really should've gotten into it when it had that spike in popularity. But, yea! We really love this series. I agree. Bsd is my favorite anime. I love the plot and character writing so much. Every character has their own role and I love that we get to know about most of the characters, their past etc Yosanos backstory was one of the best highlights of season 4. I really can't wait for July anymore
4:55 I’d like to comment that that’s kinda the point of BSD. In an interview with the author him self, Kafka Asagiri, he says, and I quote: “This story is not for people who are good at living. In this world, there exist people who are so good at living that they do not need a ‘story’ at all. … On the other hand, there are certainly people who need stories like oxygen. I always hope that Bungō Stray Dogs will become the oxygen for such people. They are the ‘lost ones’ that Dazai talked about.” Basically, the target audience is people who struggle with life, similarly to the characters in the show. Also just wanna say, 5:59 that aged horribly. (!!! MANGA SPOILERS !!!) Cause like, when s6 is released (likely in 1-2 more years) that will definitely be the darkest season to date. And the anime-onlys who avoid manga spoilers like the plague prob won’t see it coming. Cuz s5 finishes on ch 112, and within the span of the 6 chapters immediately following, 1/4 of the cast is alive (for now), another 1/4 of the cast is dead or dying, and the remaining half has been M.I.A., and that half has either been missing since s4 (cof cof Yosano, etc.) or went missing recently and have MAJOR death flags (lookin at you Ranpo, IM SCARED CH 119 RELEASES IN ABT A WEEK) End not: RANPO IS ALIVE‼️‼️
This anime is the GOAT and made me fall in love with anime all over again. It reminded me that it's not just "rose tinted glasses", 2000s anime was full of CLASSICS and Bungou Stray Dogs gave me the same CLASSIC nostalgic feeling that I used to get from anime I used to love. You know that feeling you used to get? When you watched anime? That euphoric feeling, this anime made me feel that once again. So good man, so good.
My absolute favourite thing about bsd is that every detail serves a purpose, or some sort of symbol! Even down to the colours and character design, it all ties in to match each character’s perspective of themselves and how others see them. Then there’s the bits of humour mixed in that somehow doesn’t come off as out-of-place… my favourite is Dazai scaring Atsushi as a jack-in-the-box hiding in the bin (it’s in the 55-minutes light novel).
I remember when the first 2 seasons were being hyped up by the people mostly because of Dazai, as per my observations. The viewership kind of fell off since then and it honestly makes me sad because this anime has so much potential and people are heavily missing it out. The last season was a banger.
I feel like the reason why it’s underrated is because of how unique it is. It has powers and fighting but doesn’t really fall into the shonen genre since it focuses more on the philosophical elements and detective genre. I also feel like if you aren’t familiar with a lot of literature figures and stories, then the show wouldn’t be as interesting since a lot of the characters and their abilities are based off of their real life counterparts. Bungo Stray Dogs is a great show but is focused more towards a specific audience of literature fans than a general audience.
The flashbacks are all from the light novels. The Azure king arc was changed. It’s from the first light novel that talks about dazai enternce exam. The anime made it take place in the modern day.
Bungo stray dogs is actually a great anime ....although it feels out of the place at the beginning but the story progress is really good...specially the duo between the mimic's head and odasaku was what made me fall in love with the series...it grabbed my attention so intensely that I finished all the episodes and the movie in 4days...totally recommending this anime..❤❤
Also, BSD has some of the best female characters in all of anime/manga. Maybe it's because the characters are all based on literary giants, so you really can't afford to disrespect any of them, but even the archetypical trope-y characters (Louisa May Alcott) are given proper motivation and badass moments equal to (or better) than a lot of the male characters.
I just finished the BSD anime and it’s so good literally every season is better than the last season 5 ending had me pissed cause I was so engaged in the story i didn’t wanna stop watching

Good to finally see a good review that breaks down the team into the individuals that work on each part of it & appreciates the good work! Tbh it's been draining to see some immature Twitter fans with their petty complaints about minor changes to where you can't enjoy it without someone constantly trying to convince you that the anime adaptation is trash. They don't understand that the anime adaptation is controlled supervised by the author of the source material! Of course it's overall good! Despite not being flawless (in which nothing is perfect) the anime shows the character development and the core of the story so well! The fans don't have enough experience with anime & manga industry to know that every anime has deleted scenes and isn't necessarily ruined by those. I actually think the anime adds special charms that the manga fails to show, the anime and the manga complete each other. Anyway, I can't wait to see what they have in store for us in future seasons
In my experience, it’s true that in the grand scheme of anime fandom, BSD is underrated. However, it’s more popular among female otakus in my country, especially the ones (like me) that joined the seiyuu fandom and the butai fandom. Most of us fangirled on the characters’ VAs and stage actors, who are all popular & handsome. Many fans also shipped the male charas together.
I can tell you have great taste cuz u mentioned space dandy and mob, and blood blockade battlefront. And this is about bungo stray dogs being underrated . Even tossed in concrete revolutio
Ngl as someone whos been a huge fan of the series, the latest chapters in the manga have straight up pissed me off its very reminiscent of the same shit that jjk has been dealing with where its asspulls and becoming everyone dies the series. Ill still keep up with it as im in too deep to stop at this point
I was thrown for a loop by season 5 and the vampires that came out of no where and severely disappointed by the season finale undoing everything except the Hunting Dog bitch becoming a god and then it ending because that's crazy But I'm not complaining because BRAM IS SO FREAKING KASKDJEWJJJSJDF I love him so much hes so silly
when the season 1 is the weakest installment yet is the testament of how freaking great the story each new season. Season 2prologue was peak with Francis the likeable villian??? Season 3 finale was tense and left us hanging. Season 4 , the darkest but also so much badass moments giving me pirates of the Caribbean because you dont know who is the true villain and the allies. Season 5 is just HELL YEAH MOMENTS EVERY EPISODES.
i just finished the series in a WEEK. a trait of bsd that i am really fascinated with is something it shares with jjk, namely how they handle overpowered characters. SPOILERS BELOW FOR THOSE WHO AREN'T CAUGHT UP!!! characters like yosano, ranpo, and ESPECIALLY fukuchi, fyodor, and dazai, are just blatantly overpowered. i think that this trait ULTIMATELY is in service of the characters. we see how these abilities can in fact be a CURSE for these people, such as yosano. being forced to heal soldiers and sending them back out into the hell they just came from in a continuous revolving door is genuinely NIGHTMARISH. it's even worse that these powers belonged to a then-11 year old girl. it's an incredible power that does a lot to lower the stakes, but it does have CONSEQUENCES. i would not be shocked if yosano's personality developed in order to cope with what her ability entails. ranpo is the most glaring example as he's literally just a prodigy with raw intellect that earns even dazai's admiration. season 4 was a treat to watch, especially in the beginning. fresh off of a victory during a case, he's KIDNAPPED, and this 14 YEAR OLD KID finds himself with a big head, enough to TAUNT A MAN POINTING A GUN AT HIM. fukuzawa even reprimands him for being so reckless even now that he's utilizing his ability. he was still just a child. plus, there are ways of counteracting ranpo's ability, look no further than mushitaro and fukuchi for that. fyodor and dazai are still pretty unknown in the ability and backstory department, though, and my only gripe regarding the overpowered nature of these characters is that i wish they made more MISTAKES rather than continuing to use the "this was the plan all along" method. yosano discovering who tachihara truly was is a prime example of what i'd love to see more of. nevertheless i am extremely hyperfixated on the series right now. there's so much more i could go into that shouldn't be left in a youtube comment. it's AMAZING even with all of its flaws. huuuge agree with how underrated it seems to be, great video dude 😤
Yes, thats so true!!! Thank you for making a content about that topic!!! You don't really hear much complains about it, the negative things that i heard were those: "Wish it would give romance between Atsushi and Kyoka" - "More people should die of the main characters" - "season 3 gave me not enough character developement for Dazai and Fyodor" I think those comments were wrong because: 1. A romance would distract readers and viewers from the original and story. 2. Yes, valid. But i think enough people die, like the woman from the start in the bank, Oda, the orphanage leader and many children too. It would be sad to give them so much story just to finish them off so fast. 3. But the story isn't just about Dazai and Fydor. Atsushi, Akutagawa, Francis, Kunikida and the 2 Leaders had enough development. Maybe the person didn't see that for himself? Why not? That would be the better question.
I personally ship Atsushi and Kyoka, but I prefer their interactions as it is for the same reason as you and also because they both have bigger problems to handle. I prefer the romance between them presented in a fan fiction or a side story (if it happens) for now.
hey, i really like your videos. I think they would be more popular if you slowed down a little and would tune down the voice edit so strongly at the end of sentences/paragraphs, if that makes sense? anyway: really really like the content!!
@@CaptainCeleste I don’t mean to alarm you but S5 came out Last year 🤣. In fact the anime is now caught up to the manga as well based off readers who reached out to me back when the 5th season had ended
I agree BSD is extremely underrated, but I almost like that in a way. It’s being underrated made the fan base smaller making the fan community much more tighter knit. The fandom is rarely divided over debating the grey areas in cannon like some ither fandoms. The only issue I’ve ever seen in the fandom are M*ri stans, those people are just weird/creepy
My thing is that, I'm glad this show isn't "famous" cuz it's normally the shows with much controversy and toxicity, so in a way, we can have this show for ourselves. Under the radar of the media and Twitter, at least
Should i watch the movie? I just finished season 2. I looked online and people say that it's canon, but other people say that the movie is bad and it's irrelevant to the main plotline, which is making me feel like i should just skip it. So it's canon but also irrelevant? I dont get it
funny enough i started watching BSD the same season i was watching JJK, and to be honest i enjoyed BSD a lot more even if it dosn't have demon slayer levels of animations. Im mean jjk is fine for me because outside from gojo i don't find any of the characters interesting that i don't care if someone kicks the bucket (i literally forgot that junpei die in the first season, also i know what who lives and dies in the shibuya arc so i don't give a damm about spoilers) also the power system while impressively detailed is not creative enough for me since most of the battle well animated hand to hand combats like dragon ball, almost having nothing to do with sorcery. For everyone bitching that demon slayer is carried by animation you can aply the same shitty take to JJK. BSD in the other hand i was instantly interested in every single character, i found that world more interesting, even the power system of basing a power on a real life author swork is far more creative than just a purple spirit bomb, yeah screw the "hollow purple" and all the "but its actually is a far complex and diferent power move" argument, it just a purple spirit bomb that we seeing in every anime, even naruto also has that shit and they call it bijuudama that fun fact spirit bomb in japanese is genki dama, so yeah is the same shit.
I actually like it where it is, this may sound selfish, but I don’t want it to be ruined :( Fandoms ruin every single show, all the time, and I genuinely want to keep BSD safe 😔
This was just my opinion, you’re more than welcome to disagree. All good here 👋🏾. I truly don’t think BSD gets all the flowers it deserves even with a pretty strong fandom.
tbh after s5 they just went downhill with the animation, they didnt add some scenes from the manga which is really upsetting to me n i think most bsd fans can agree
tbh the anime barely does any justice to the manga :(. so like the anime is good, but the manga is the best manga i’ve ever read. the anime skips a lot of important scenes and funny moments. it’s worse with the lightnovels (flashback arc stuff), for example there is a graveyard scene in the dark era in the book.
bungo stray dogs is my favorite anime but what ruins it are these reasons the fandom Chuuya and dazai stans ships people who hate atsushi people who think atsushi doesnt have a sad backstory it takes a long time to finally figure out atsushis backstory I LOVE ATSUSHI HE IS THE MOST MYSTERIOUS MC EVER!!!
I love Bungo Stray Dogs. Not like Atsushi, I understand his character, but don't like it. And of course I love Rampo, how not love our arrogant and brilliant detectetive? Kkk
I understand. He suffer, he's traumatized, he's afraid, he don't quite get (untill the 2nd season) that he isn't alone anymore. I understand all this. But he isn't my favorite character.
@@atsushi-k7w i do, he is suppoust to be the audience POV between the paranomal agency and the port mafia war. It just that theres more interesting characters than him, he is kinda like jubilee from the x-men
Yea but it's not "action packed" enough for men from what I hear. It has a female fan base due to the male characters in the story and that VA in japanese.😊
I hate the fandom though!! They have the worst ships ever… Mori and dazai? EXUSE ME? They just ship anyone the same gender and same age… wtf you mean you ship atsushi and dazai..
It's fun, but it's just a silly show, man. Even Ranpo in S05 said it with the "Their goal is as cliche as it gets... WORLD DOMINATION" lol There's nothing genius about the show. That vampire twist was some bottom of the barrel shonen trash An evil port mafia with a pdf file as a leader, trying to portray genuinely wicked members as just anti-heroes... Then the over the top thing of a sword that cuts through time and a book that rewrites reality by a villain that magically turns out to be good all along.
It's in my top three❤ I love this show so much and I'm also buying the manga now. Where I live, in Italy, it's extremely rare to find people who watch it/know it so yeah it's very underrated...Such a shame cause for me it's a masterpiece🥹

I LOVE THIS ANIME!!! I wish that they did an international tour for the live action film BSD:Beast
2:30 these flashbacks aren’t part of the manga, but rather adaptations of the light novels that go alongside it.
This is and was my fav anime and it is CRIMMINALY UNDERATED
This is such a great anime! It’s one of my favorite now. So much different than the typical Shonen anime.
I can tell you have great taste cuz u mentioned space dandy and mob, and blood blockade battlefront. And this is about bungo stray dogs being underrated . Even tossed in concrete revolutio
bsd is SUPER underrated. the story, characters, character designs, fights etc are all so good but very underrated
Bsd is so underated i sometimes think it isn't it's just that i haven't read enough reviews brooo
Ngl as someone whos been a huge fan of the series, the latest chapters in the manga have straight up pissed me off its very reminiscent of the same shit that jjk has been dealing with where its asspulls and becoming everyone dies the series. Ill still keep up with it as im in too deep to stop at this point
This anime needs to blow up, what the hell is wrong with peoople
ODASAKU is the GOAT
best character ever
I adore BSD but is not as visibly popular. I think it gives off a more mature vibe and its more a slow burn than the other top anime.
I was thrown for a loop by season 5 and the vampires that came out of no where and severely disappointed by the season finale undoing everything except the Hunting Dog bitch becoming a god and then it ending because that's crazy
But I'm not complaining because BRAM IS SO FREAKING KASKDJEWJJJSJDF
I love him so much hes so silly
this show owns my heart
when the season 1 is the weakest installment yet is the testament of how freaking great the story each new season.
Your channel is severely underrated
I really think this anime is criminally underrated
6:12 well....uh... as a manga reader I'm not really that sure they will....
This anime makes me want to read ❤
Yessir keep spreading the bsd agenda😤😤 the anime is way too underrated for how good it is
Yes, thats so true!!! Thank you for making a content about that topic!!! You don't really hear much complains about it, the negative things that i heard were those: "Wish it would give romance between Atsushi and Kyoka" - "More people should die of the main characters" - "season 3 gave me not enough character developement for Dazai and Fyodor"
I think those comments were wrong because:
I prefer the romance between them presented in a fan fiction or a side story (if it happens) for now.
aight I'll put it on my plan to watch list
One of the most underrated
hey, i really like your videos. I think they would be more popular if you slowed down a little and would tune down the voice edit so strongly at the end of sentences/paragraphs, if that makes sense?
anyway: really really like the content!!
It does! Thank you for the feedback and thank you for watching
Even though underrated bsd has won the best detection anime multiple times, Even winning over death note,And us a very popular anime in japan
Love bungou so much
My favourite animee
face it, bsd probably has a better plot then most mainstream animes. for example, just take whats been happening in mersault recently.
its almost 2025 and we still dont have a season 5........someone kill me before the wait does -.-
@@CaptainCeleste I don’t mean to alarm you but S5 came out Last year 🤣. In fact the anime is now caught up to the manga as well based off readers who reached out to me back when the 5th season had ended
@@YozakuraSensei I meant season 6
I agree BSD is extremely underrated, but I almost like that in a way. It’s being underrated made the fan base smaller making the fan community much more tighter knit. The fandom is rarely divided over debating the grey areas in cannon like some ither fandoms. The only issue I’ve ever seen in the fandom are M*ri stans, those people are just weird/creepy
The flashback arcs are light novels
I hope it doesnt get popular. It isnt something for mainstream becauae theyll wash it down.
All read up on the manga
Don't know what to do now😅
yesyesyes thank you
Season 5 was way to good to be underrated it’s sad to see that such a banger isn’t getting enough spoilers
Bungo Stray Dogs only gets better each season
Dark arc is the best arc in anime
best anime ever
Bungo is popular in Japan, so it's not really underrated.
This is more so about western reception and conversation around the series :)
Im going to be Nikolai for halloween
I hope ur costume turns out well!
@@YozakuraSensei thank you!
My thing is that, I'm glad this show isn't "famous" cuz it's normally the shows with much controversy and toxicity, so in a way, we can have this show for ourselves. Under the radar of the media and Twitter, at least
i love bsd much!!!!!!!
Yup
Should i watch the movie? I just finished season 2. I looked online and people say that it's canon, but other people say that the movie is bad and it's irrelevant to the main plotline, which is making me feel like i should just skip it. So it's canon but also irrelevant? I dont get it
Watch the movie, trust me.
funny enough i started watching BSD the same season i was watching JJK, and to be honest i enjoyed BSD a lot more even if it dosn't have demon slayer levels of animations.
I actually like it where it is, this may sound selfish, but I don’t want it to be ruined :(
Fandoms ruin every single show, all the time, and I genuinely want to keep BSD safe 😔
If you think that this show is underrated you don't understand anything about the topic you're discussing.
This was just my opinion, you’re more than welcome to disagree. All good here 👋🏾. I truly don’t think BSD gets all the flowers it deserves even with a pretty strong fandom.
tbh after s5 they just went downhill with the animation, they didnt add some scenes from the manga which is really upsetting to me n i think most bsd fans can agree
the smile from akutagawa 😭
Too underrated...I mean like, it's a great anime, and manga is perfect as well...I don't understand it-
tbh the anime barely does any justice to the manga :(. so like the anime is good, but the manga is the best manga i’ve ever read. the anime skips a lot of important scenes and funny moments. it’s worse with the lightnovels (flashback arc stuff), for example there is a graveyard scene in the dark era in the book.
bungo stray dogs is my favorite anime but what ruins it are these reasons
the fandom
Chuuya and dazai stans
ships
people who hate atsushi
people who think atsushi doesnt have a sad backstory
it takes a long time to finally figure out atsushis backstory
I LOVE ATSUSHI HE IS THE MOST MYSTERIOUS MC EVER!!!
I love Bungo Stray Dogs. Not like Atsushi, I understand his character, but don't like it. And of course I love Rampo, how not love our arrogant and brilliant detectetive? Kkk
wow i dont think you understand atsushi at all
I understand.
It just that theres more interesting characters than him, he is kinda like jubilee from the x-men
It's underrated because its fanbase is mainly female.
Anything called "Fujo bait" will nearly always be forever tarred as a chick flick type of show.
well thats incredibly stupid considering its a seinen anime, so it has men as the target audience....
Yea but it's not "action packed" enough for men from what I hear. It has a female fan base due to the male characters in the story and that VA in japanese.😊
@@lemon5000-tj6nvexactly 😭😭
and it's not really THAT underrated
it's just not well known in the west
I hate the fandom though!! They have the worst ships ever… Mori and dazai? EXUSE ME? They just ship anyone the same gender and same age… wtf you mean you ship atsushi and dazai..
It's fun, but it's just a silly show, man. Even Ranpo in S05 said it with the "Their goal is as cliche as it gets... WORLD DOMINATION" lol
There's nothing genius about the show. That vampire twist was some bottom of the barrel shonen trash
An evil port mafia with a pdf file as a leader, trying to portray genuinely wicked members as just anti-heroes...
Then the over the top thing of a sword that cuts through time and a book that rewrites reality by a villain that magically turns out to be good all along.
Severaly overated*
Tell me in what world is bsd OVERRATED?! LMAOOO
where are you from?florida?
It's in my top three❤ I love this show so much and I'm also buying the manga now. Where I live, in Italy, it's extremely rare to find people who watch it/know it so yeah it's very underrated...Such a shame cause for me it's a masterpiece🥹
