About HOME:
Billy Strings has been hailed as the future of bluegrass, transcending tradition and genre with his high velocity, flat-picking guitar technique and intense, confessional songwriting. HOME, Strings’ remarkable second studio album, is undoubtedly the Michigan-born, Nashville-based artist’s bravest excursion thus far, completely rewiring bluegrass with elements of punk, country, folk rock, and genuine psychedelic exploration to fashion something altogether his own. Strings has infused the aesthetic with his own experiences and inspirations, adopting traditional sonic and lyrical idioms to confront contemporary social truths. With guest appearances from the likes of Jerry Douglas and Molly Tuttle and produced by Glenn Brown (Greensky Bluegrass, Marcus Miller), HOME marks a landmark on Billy Strings’ ongoing creative journey, its fearless songs and freewheeling approach recasting string-based American music in his own inimitable image.
Direction and animation by Mertcan Mertbilek
LYRICS
Remember the time we were both eye to eye
And we both knew the reasons why
It seemed like we faced the world on our own
Before we collide can we just take a moment
Collecting reflections of this
And remember the paths that we chose
Spring lied to us this year again
I can't stand to face the fear again
But you could always laugh about those things
It's enough to make a man feel sour
Burning minutes every day by the hour
Just to end up gone like everything else
Let go of the pain and hold onto the rhythm
It's consciously held back in you
You're drowning a sorrow that's long been at rest
The past is a hell, it can creep up inside you
So let me remind you of this
It's the reason your troubles exist
Spring lied to us again this year
And still I can't stand to face the fear
Will you always laugh about those things?
It's enough to make a man stay humble
Every day is just a new chance to stumble
Just to end up gone like everything else
If ever a time comes around in the wheel
To replace where we stand side by side
We'll be ready and able to fly
Away from the mire
And the senseless decisions of somebody's wasted desire
Through the smoke and the wind and the fire
Spring lied to us this year again
I can't stand to face the fear again
But you could always laugh about those things
It's enough to make a man feel sour
Burning minutes every day by the hour
Just to end up gone like everything else

Billy Strings, I have never in my life experienced the brilliance that is what you are. A true master of your craft. I am astonished every time I listen to you perform. Amazing.
Man I feel the same. Plus I play my guitars a lot more .

Something about this song captivates me. I feel it in my soul.
69 years old. Saw Billy and the band 6 months ago. When they jammed on this tune it was the closest thing I have seen to an early 70s Dead show . Young and old , Long hairs and business men......we were just lost in the music
There's an unspoken sense of relation. Good and honest music can heal the broken society of today. Let us never leave the adventure of experiencing music.
Billy Strings is one of those "Once in a lifetime kind of artists" Jimi, Eddie, Stevie...Billy.

Thank you, having the lyrics confirmed my thoughts about what this song is about.❤
@@jimrebrBilly said he wrote this at a time when he and his brother were having some trouble getting along. I'm sure he would tell you it can be about anything you need it to be about.
That was a nice little trip
Im watching this on shrooms
Billy Strings is by far the best guitar player and songwriter of this time period. He renews my hope in music..haven't heard a bad tune by him and his covers are great as well, as he has a phenomenal taste in music as well and surrounds himself with great musicians as well so his live performances are amazing 👏 😀 😊
Nothing like some music with feeling. Psycodelic bluegrass. Billy strings and his band are as true as true gets.
Acid Grass, man..... :-)
@@rddean32 does this remind anyone else of bela fleck or is it just me? Just found this band and I've been really digging them.

totally, a lot of bluegrass and folk has a lot of feeling so it's cool when players like Billy comes around and is influenced by a lot of other rock and roll band we like anyway.
I cant listen to this song while I drive because of the tears welling up in my eyes from the perfect beauty of this master piece. Billy you're an old soul and it shines.❤
This song makes me cry. Insanely poignant and beautiful.
My wife and I cry to even after hearing it dozens of times
I just deleted Facebook from my phone. Returning to what I was.
My love of music and beating the hell out of my guitar. Beatin some heaven in. Thanks Billy!!

I dropped it 4 yrs ago. Never was really into it. Life is to valuable to piss away.
So I am a 52 year old guitar player, I have always struggled with wanting to play blues on electric. I have never been able to make an electric song, like I can on acoustic. Thanks to Billy Strings, I learned my to passion for playing acoustic bluegrass music. I love it, my wife claims I was made for it, I am having fun again. Thank you!
Just saw this on Austin city limits.. not only is it a beautifully written song, but his extended solos at the end reminded me of a seventies Led Zeppelin concert. Haven't seen anything like it in years.
The fiddle at 2:46 is 🔥Feel it in my soul.
This song haunts me; I can't get enough of it. Sometimes I don't let myself OD on a song I really love, but this one I am over indulging in for sure, listening to it over and over, even learning to play (the verse and chorus) on guitar. I was lucky to get to see you guys in LA last week. The entire band was top notch, which I expected, but the singing just blew me away. I'm a bluegrass fan and it wasn't my usual crowd, but so worth it to see you and your band play. Even the long drive in LA traffic didn't deter me. One of the best shows I've seen and I see a ton of live shows.
Same here man, i cant get enough of it
Truly great song and I do the same as to not burn a tune out but this has some legs for sure... ❤
God bless you
this song is unreal how good it is
Heck yea
The type of song you listen to,
and it fucks around and changes your life for the better.
I'm 44 years old as of 6 days ago, and it's 4:30am here in Ont. Canada..I just woke up for a quick washroom trip and came back to lie down for a bit more..Seconds later I couldn't get the thought out of my head how much I needed to hear Away From The Mire to fall back asleep..Other than Native Chants, I haven't listened to music during sleep in over 30 years..Thank you Billy Strings and the ladz 🤘
I love you Brothers❤
My ex said I listened to too much Bluegrass...
Its my home though.
I'm a singer and a song writer and everything I hear is how I feel. It brings me back to being a kid and dancing at festivals and feeling like I was in a simpler time. There's something so fucking ethereal about that kind of thing.
Mali and Carrie then forced Billy Strings hour on me, and then Grateful Dead hour and so on. It became a part of me.
Your RUclips videos made me keep my ground in a world wide pandemic.
OMG! I had 2 read this for like 20 mins. I don't remember writing your prose. U thought maybe I drank too much.. no, @kassidyquintessalli6.. u did!
You're verbiage is so uncanny to mine. I had to connect and cry💪💝🥹🥹🥹😿😿
Billy is creating a new genre before our ears - prog bluegrass. Fabulous song.
Being a huge metalhead. I love this stuff, the tightness the musicianship is unmatched. They are as good live as they are on the album. I had tickets for all the #streamingstrings tour. Hope to see them live soon.
Billy, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for this.
I recently had a medical emergency. I collapsed and stopped breathing. I was revived and admitted to the ICU with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, aspiration pneumonia, Flu and Pneumonia, but oh boy the reason I'm here now goes so much deeper. I was hiding. And now I'm exposed, vulnerable. I'm trying so hard to overcome the hell of my past. I can't stop crying, wondering what I'm still doing here. I almost wanted that release. Maybe I'm rambling, I just need to get this out somehow. If I am going to be around, I want a more fulfilling existence. I know I created my troubles, that's why they exist, and the reality is, I either overcome them, or I don't. I have a long road ahead of me. I've been in the hospital for 23 days, crawling in my skin for most of it. Probably another 21 more or so.
I'm going to see you live one day though and it's going to be amazing.
For anyone who listened, thank you, and I truly hope you have the happiness, or will, that we're all searching for.
know that someone always listen and cares. Love from Glasgow, Scotland x

Wow! I love this. I dont understand something... I'm a metal head. I absolutely love your music! Thank you!
because he is a metal head too...he code switches so well he confuses us all!
It's hard to deny talent like his even if you're not a fan of the genre. I don't listen to much metal at all but I can definitely admire the talent of some metal bands.
Same.
Bluegrass is hillbilly heavy metal
He use to be in a metal band
This mite be getting ridiculous! Only discovered Billy 2 weeks ago. Every day I keep finding live concerts on line. Or another like this I have never heard before. Seems like the music just keeps getting better and better! And it's all coming from Billy or the whole band. I have seen most of the greats in music. Billy you are in good company. It's like your saving modern music! Just amazing! Great music goes way beyond what is being played! Comes from a very special place. That is why we are all witnessing something very special!

He said on Austin City Limits he wrote it after a fight with his brother. in an interview, he said "The song Away From The Mire came about from a fight I had with my brother. I wrote all this stuff, and it’s really a song about letting go of the pain, moving on and getting on with your life, and not dwelling on the past and being stuck in the stuff that happened before"
To be fair to the poster, "Enough to Leave" is the song he wrote about losing friends to heroin.
I saw him live a few weeks ago. WOW. What a show. I had seen several of his songs, but this song was the climax of the show, with a super trippy insane 7 minute solo in the middle. I came to RUclips to find what it was called. So good. Please, go see them if you can!
same here i just saw him in Saratogy. mind blowing and im 21 years clean/sober. this song especially, has something rarely achieved in music.
Just seen him live tonight! I did the same!
You ain’t wrong
I wish Billy could play this song for a whole show to be honest. Both sets just two big mires😊

Emotionally Epic Masterpiece. No need to elaborate..
This song is an instant classic. Timeless piece.
Billy and the band, I'm amazed and inspired by everything you do. This song instantly became my favorite for personal reasons. You are destined to be an iconic band that will stand the test of time through the ages. The world is a better place because of you all. Much love and respect...

Such a powerful song! I get chills every time I listen to it
Don't know why but I'm happy when the grasshopper comes back, but then disappointed but understand when he exits the little opening 😊
I love you, Billy.

Billy Strings-Straight from the heart.
This song is achingly, desperately, beautiful.
Ive been obsessed with billy strings and marcus king, ive been listening to a lot of their covers, but holy fuck, his originals are fucking gold
“Just to end up gone like everything else” seeing things for how they truly are is what’s most impressive, not to take away from the incredible talent .

god damn this song is just a straight banger. cant get enough.
There's no words for this talent.. Amazing, Unreal!!
this blows my mind.
Seriously had a flashback off the beginning niiiceee....
The video of that kid on the couch playing the song he wrote for a competition was mind blowing. It’s not often you’re treated to talent in its purest form.
This is the music you want to share with everyone you know so they don’t miss a second of the greatness.
These comments say it all. Thanks Billy Strings, this hits perfectly.
I absolutely love this song! I'm a metalhead that loves bands like Pantera and Slipknot and I didn't even like bluegrass until my friend showed me "meet me at the creek" and you opened my eyes to a whole new genre. And the more I listen to you it doesn't get old, it just keeps getting better. Keep doing what you love Billy, your music has inspired us all. PS watching this video tripping is 10/10 👽😁

Billy,
Not only can you pick, you can sing, write, orchestrate and move emotions....
Your soul is unimpeachable, you will not be punished for anything you have done wrong in your life, because up to this point, it is perfection...
Taking water, into the mire.......
Billy woke up and chose to let his love light shine. Fuckin A we are glad you did man. Thanks for the good times and brilliant light guys. I'll not soon forget the spark you caused in me and plenty of others I know. It's not a matter of choosing our realities anymore, it's a matter of doing the best we can with the gifts we have been given. The level of raw talent you possess in your pinky toe is still a bigger one any true artist could hope to have. The more songs I hear the more I'm getting the dog and the RV ready for your next tour 💯
Love, love, LOVE this tune! Animation is sick too.
Its criminal that this song ends.
Billy!!! Discovered your musical brilliance and we launched an American into Space again, all in the same day. Really needed a good day, it's been awhile. Thank You!! Rock on little Brother!!
Honey to my soul...
thats a good way of putting it!
Folks from the Midwest seem to have a little somethin' they let get closer to the surface than most others. No ego-trip, we can just shine a 'lil brighter through the sh*t is all. From right across the lake, with many life experiences paralleled, you & your music reflect to me the decency of the human heart and the magic we create through accepting all that's perfectly imperfect in us. Feellin' feels & doing the damn thing anyway! 🤘 you rock, keep on it! It's good for our souls ❤
Beautiful brother. Truly. 💗💗💗
