I know what Di Canio wasn't right but the club should have stood by him, fine him, he does his suspension and then he should have been the 1st name on the sheet. Best player we have had in the last 25 years. We wouldn't have got relegated with him and Carbone. Poor ownership and weak management.
100% agree. I've supported the owls for 25 years and Di Canio was the best player I've seen at Hillsborough. Wilson was a dreadful manager who couldn't manage him and all Dave Richards cared about was pleasing his FA cronies.
@@James-ws5br You have got it completely spot on there. Wilson wasn't right at all. He was poor. I will never forgive him for what he did to us the following season. They should have got rid of him before March but I guess we can all say that in hindsight. I miss Carlos. He has been our best manager for a long time. Everyday I think about us returning to the Premier League. That is where we belong.
Richard Willmott they were all shit but Eustace and joss didn’t relegate us and take us to the brink of bankruptcy like Wilson did, they were removed pretty quickly when we noticed they were dogshit, it’s close between them all but Wilson didn’t buy one decent player therefore I stand by what I said top 3 worst
Our club was/is far to dour to handle the likes of Di Canio. Wilson eludes to our problems at 23:35 - 23:50 when the club stood still and had no adventurous ambition something Di Canio stated many times that season. He was right but only seen by the club at the time as dissent...
I remember Danny Wilson calling out Paolo Di Canio and Benny Carbone as "fancy dans" then dropping them. In my opinion, that's what dropped us. Still waiting for the recovery all this time later.
Wilson was right we spent money we didn't have Di canio was a problem in dressing room and this is the time we started the slide which we haven't recovered from.
Danny Wilson - the architect of the biggest downfall in the club's recent history. He sold all his best players (including the god Di Canio for the pathetic £1.7M) and ALL his signings were awful (including the terrible Richard Cresswell a few months later for the same fee as Di Canio)
The architects were the board who were frightened to invest further for the team to move on. They couldn't handle the likes of Di Canio and he would have stayed longer if the club had had more ambition and backed him. They never did that so he wanted to leave & others followed. Wilson was hindered, just like now, by a board not prepared to invest (no FFP then) in quality players.
I watch that season and wonder where did it all go wrong. When look at the wins Wednesday thumped teams that season. 3-0 and 4-0 wins home and away. Finishing 12 th. Mid table. Wym Jonk, Carbone, Rudi, Hinchcliffe,, Alexandersen, Booth, Emerson, Stefanovic was they really in the top 3 worst in the top flight?
I feel bad for Sheffield wednesday fans because whenever I hear Hillsborough I think of the disaster rather then the home stadium of sheffield wednesday.
We've never recovered from this season imo. Getting Wilson was a shocking decision!!

OJ M Danny Wilson defo top 3 of worse Sheffield Wednesday managers in my lifetime that’s for sure

Don’t do the season after please!
Shit season indeed but I still wanna see it from an historical perspective. Maybe I'm a masochist? Either way I'd to see it, too.
The first of these old videos I've watched. I stopped this after the Man U win as to upsetting. State of the club and players now!

Our away support was pants back then , was it just burn out /fed up of knowing not doing well etc ?
Home support wasn't great either
Good video as always! 🔥🔥👍
As much as I enjoyed this it just makes me depressed with how crap the club is on and off the field now.

Wilson was like monk not replacing players with better ones. To pay 1 million on cresswell from York who was out of his depth
This was start of the decline bringing in players like sonner who couldn’t get into the Ipswich side and cresswell players lower league football.
UTO. WAWAW
Beat all the good teams and lost to the shite ones
Play off final season from a few years ago next
