Beautifully made documentry. Very interesting to see the creative process between Carl and Paul. Most touching to see the late Linda become emotional at the music. What a powerful, sublime gift Paul has.
For 50 years I have been amazed and overwhelmed by Paul's impossible range of talent. Truly one of the few greatest artist/performers of the 20th Century.
I remember the first singles from the Beatles and dreaming about getting involved in the creation process. If they could...you know? Then years later, I worked for CBS/Fox Studios when we post produced the musical remake of South Pacific that Dame Te Kanawa and Jose Carreras sang....and to now see this uploaded...a bit eerie, a bit happy, tingly, and almost full circle...Because in that time frame, I also worked on a couple of Sir Paul's videos with Michael Jackson. Thank you, Kiri....this is utterly amazing :-)
It's so fantastic to watch great people at work building something beautiful out of a simple idea that begins to take shape as the different pieces come together. You have a very powerful and beautiful voice and I'm sorry I never got to see you perform live before you retired. I absolutely loved Sir Paul telling his story and how specific he was about everything. I loved the expressions in his eyes as if 'conducting' with them in parts. I think I could even tell when he wasn't completely satisfied with something and yet he always had a smile. That was just my personal perception but I could be wrong. I watched the entire documentary from beginning to end. Thanks for posting it, I found it most interesting and so I enjoyed it very, very much. Everyone was great.
Watching Paul and Carl Davis work at around 18:30 reminds me of Mozart pulling the Requiem Mass out of his head and Salieri trying to capture it on paper in Amadeus
Such an incredible and insightful work....thank you so much for this gift of a look behind the scenes Sir Paul et al...it is full of deep emotion, pathos, heart and hope...
Sir Paul's composition on making this Oratorio is like a method like a way when Mozart wrote Requiem (just like a way in the film "Amadeus") So melancholic, sad, struggle of our lives are written inside this song beyond this music, we will have a somewhat a kind of a hope. I want to try to live such a hard, problems-filled world taking a fighting pose believing that we have a hope in the future.
Thank you for posting this. I would never have known to look for it, and it just showed up as something I may be interested in as I was searching, and listening to videos about the Beatles. It is so interesting to watch them collaborate together and create this beautiful piece of music.
Fascinating to re watch this. Remember when I first heard the music. How lucky were these people to work with Paul on this? Some beautiful McCartney pieces in there. M
very interesting watch. Kiri has a beautiful voice; so expressive and well controlled. some of those violin notes are so quick. I like the bass explaining his thought process. I'm used to hearing classical music in Italian so the English is easier to understand.
I think he reads it well enough to sing and find his place etc but writing and producing a whole score requires a bit more theory. And those choral guys have the education from childhood .
@@lorijones9579 I have always questioned the idea that Pavarotti couldn't read music, there are complex ensembles in opera, the sextet in "Lucia di Lammermoor" for example, that I doubt someone could learn their individual part simply by ear.
I played "Liverpool Oratorio" for a coworker from Liverpool last summer and she said "This is bloody horrible". I told her it was written by Paul McCartney and she asked "Who is that?" She recently got fired for stealing liquor. The manager thinks she came back and broke one of the windows.
That's interesting. Took me a few minutes to work it out on guitar. Notice Carl injects the last 2 chords G and B7 instead of Pauls Em and B, so he's perhaps not trying to replicate an old tune consciously.

Not really, I - VIIb- VIb is one of the most common chord progressions ever.
Can a real musician help me to pass this message to Paul McCartney? Please Paul, team up with William Christie from Les Arts Florissantes. Please Paul do two things for the music: 1) Please write a Requiem; 2) Please write a beautiful opera in the same direction like the Magic Flute by Mozart, in the direction that you think that Mozart would have evolved, if he would lived. William Christie will help you to do that. I think that you can write an absolutely magnificent opera. Please Paul, do this for music!!!! Paul.... if you team up with William Christie & Les Artes Florissantes, I KNOW THAT IT WILL BE AN AMAZING THING FOR THE MUSIC. IF A REAL MUSICIAN SEES THIS MESSAGE PLEASE TELL PAUL. Thank you, Corneliu Albu.
AND HOPEFULLY the myth that Paul can not READ or write music DIES HERE. At 17:38 he is READING the partiture . His quote "The last movement is just the celebration.." ONLY someone who is fluid in composition and notation CAN define a movement..... He just did it. At 19:35 he is modulating a bar that takes MASTERING of music composition arrangement and of course full fluency in writing and reading.. Do you want MORE? Notice his quick "Do we go back to an Em ? That is no random whim . that takes into account a whole section that may have 10 instruments affected plus the influences on other partituteres. So DONe MCCartney READS , Writes and Composes on full NOTATION!
I think, being able to read music and having a great musical and harmonic understanding are two different things. Because of having played chords his whole life, modulations are easy for Paul, although he probably doesn't understand he is going to the dominant or subdominant. Carl is writing the notes down while Paul imagines chords as names. I am a classical flutist and thus am very concentrated on melodies and of course can read and write music. Although I of course get theory training at the university, that doesn't mean harmonic thinking comes without practice.
Priceless for snowy Saturday evening in Wyoming. Thank You!👏

He is such a beautiful talent, I’m so happy Paul exists and shares his talent

I agree with you. Beautiful comment. I feel the same. My best regards.
Wonderful, Paul, Carl, singers and musicians!
Years before Carpool Karaoke, Paul McCartney treats Carl Davis to a nostalgic trip around his Liverpool childhood memories...
Watching Paul and Carl Davis work at around 18:30 reminds me of Mozart pulling the Requiem Mass out of his head and Salieri trying to capture it on paper in Amadeus
Flag Coco same!!

Woah, the singer’s face is so shocked when Paul mentions John’s death at 28:40.

Linda crying listening to Kiri...just gutted!
She's a good singer, that girl!

Paul doesn't read traditional sheet music. It's all in his head, so he has to get others to write it out for him.
I think he reads it well enough to sing and find his place etc but writing and producing a whole score requires a bit more theory. And those choral guys have the education from childhood .
Yeah, Sir Paul and Pavarotti. It's a shame how musically ignorant they are.
@@lorijones9579 Where in my comment did I say Paul was musically ignorant?

22:45 wow Jerry Hadley just pulled a high c on an e vowel like it was nothing, impressive.

AccurateCrabLegs best story.
Just proves that uneducated scum are still with us everywhere.
GRACIAS .. THANKS FOR POSTING IT AND SHARE PART OF MACCAS SOUL

17:50 is that the same dog of Paul is Live?
It's Martha, his dear.
It’s Arrow, Martha’s grown pup, who’s the dog on the cover of Paul Is Live.
@@hopperdietzel Martha had already passed away.
@ ups my mistake !
No Martha the English sheep dog died and Paul bought a younger dog.
It was a time of bad hair.
My el della grew up on those docks.. he fuckin killed himself 3 years back..I understand now after this...sorry bastard
Horrid composing awful writing. Dame kiri was embarrassed. Jerry Hadley committed suicide shortly after this
