I'm still watching the video, so not sure if you've mentioned it in it, but I've seen a lot of DJs who bought the S7 complaining about the upfaders. Apparently they have a high failure rate and they are not easily replaced. Now I'm not sure if the failures are due to DJs abusing their upfaders by slamming them up and down, but anyone viewing this comment may want to keep that issue in mind. I love my S11 and its a great mixer. I would have liked the bluetooth and midi play functions of the S7 though.
I nearly bought a new mixer 2 weeks ago then I watched your video that told us to wait with regards to updating our gear. Then this video pops up on my birthday. Its a sign ha ha. Thank you Mr Cleveland Terry for some of the best reviews in the game . The content on this channel is next level. Best wishes from Dublin Ireland.
Thanks Terry, i just purchased the DJMS-7 mixer, i am Definitely Looking forward to the Experience🫡😎, S9 Will BE.. Shelved!!!!!☺️
Thank you for this breakdown! I just got a pair of Phase needles and have been trying to figure out which mixer to choose. My current set up is to strictly play vinyl :)
Good overview, I just bought a Numark Scratch, but this looks like it'll be the way to go when I've outgrown the Scratch.
good mixer.Right now there are a lot of really good choices out there.
Hows the numark Scratch with rekordbox?
Rekordbox only works with pioneer products
Dope! I just bought the mixars duo, budget was a factor.
@@bretmelton7116 I have the duo, and LOVE it. Dropped an Innofader pnp2 in it, and it's absolutely perfect.
Even though you would not say what's new coming out last year, thank you, thank you for telling us to wait to purchase anything in your previous video i was gonna jump but i listened and now i can make a more educated choice on purchasing the s-11 or this which is cheaper.
Great review, I really want to get an s7. Using a xone:23c with serato. Looking for a better work flow with serato.
I discovered your video and it’s great, thank you for the test. I’m hesitating between the two (I found a new s9), what scares me with the s7 Is the quality of upfaders, but to be honest I’m not a big scratcher. And where you are right is the interest of Bluetooth for doing routine without having to plug everything in. I’m still hesitant about the build quality of the s7, I have to go try It. Thank you and continue your videos are great
I watched this video cuz a friend linked me to it, then realized we have many mutual friends on Twitch and we have both played for DMS on twitch! Great to see ya, you have my sub. Amazing content!
Appreciate you.
I include your research in my research. I appreciate the timebyou take as well as the information you provide. Thanks 👍🏾
Just bought the Mixars Duo haven’t figured out all the Bells and Whistles but when I do S7 here I come.
aka romesteel: I see what you meant when you were telling people to hold off on buying equipment at least past this month. I actually think they have more new DJ equipment coming out than last yr. I tend to take a few DJs words to heart when they put out videos on new tested equip, especially when they go all in. you're one of those guys. I won't buy any new piece of dj equipment without you and a few others talking about it.
Ooooh so this is the video you told you have to edit when ending the stream with Bastid :D Nice one!
Busy busy...
Thorough, informative review. Preciate it CT.
For me, this mixer is PERFECT.
Not taking away anything from the S11, it's legit a beast. Probably the best mixer on the market. But most won't need all of that. The S9 is a little long in the tooth... This is just a perfect upgrade to that, but still a smallish down grade at the same time in some ways.
The s7 is exactly what I'd need, and nothing I wouldn't. Screens and such are meh. I won't use the missing effects etc.
Exactly what I was looking for to hit the market.
Now all we need is someone to come in and just destroy the 600-1000 dollar mid range market with a fantastic product or 2 and scratch djs will be made in the shade.
Another great video, Terry.
@Bryan I agree with your response and @Cleveland amazing review, best one I've seen that answers my questions. I agree the extra bells and whistles of the S11 I can live w out and as Cleveland said I could get lost in glossy rather than growing in the music. So my situation, I am upgrading from a DDJ1000. I want to work start focusing on not depending on the computer, hence export mode using the mixer. The S7 fits that perfectly. What I am losing is access to 4 decks. I am struggling with that part. Cost aside, in my situation would you just do S11 or are 4 decks not really a normal need. I probably use a 3rd deck 10% of the time but when I do I'm fully committed.
After looking at this review, I will be purchasing this mixer! Definitely an upgrade to the LEGENDARY S9! But, Pioneer should have kept the "echo" feature!
Thanks you!!! For all the information 😎 CLEVELAND ROCK
Thanks Terry great video solidified my purchase today because of this review.
great review cle ,i went with the s7 and love it to death , i enjoy every thing about it , I had a choice with the s 7 and s11 and i just dont need all the bells with the s11 and the screen , thanks once again
Holy cow Cleveland just confirmed with recent update the phase works with the RANE 70 just made my decision ty!
I just brought the Rane seventy almost 2 months ago, but only after I watched you video on it. I was torn between this rane 70 and the pioneer s11. keep up the good work.
The 70 is still an amazing mixer and I’m glad I own one.
Definitely, the Loop MIDI function will spice the DJ Game. Good one Pioneer DJ!
Great review CT.. so happy that company's are sending you gear... you do excellent break downs.. God Bless to your future success.. I know 2020 was a killer for most, but I've enjoyed watching you Hustle.. its motivating, and inspiring .. Keep Going !!
Another great review again! Guess I’m going to add the S7 with my S9 thanks Cleveland!👍🏿👍🏿
Cleveland Rocks...cool as always very informative bro I just got the S11 but there is something intriguing about the S7 thanks to you. Great job as always bro. Peace from the 313.
thats sounds like detroit 2 me
It was the demo for me, nice work CT
Great review. You have arrived bro! Your journey is great watch! Continued success with all your endeavors and thank for all the great content you provide on this channel.
Best review out there on the S7, thanks!
The Bluetooth module would be useful for me when I get back to doing small corporate and fundraiser events... they like to show videos off a laptop, so I can have them plug the laptop into the projector (which is usually WAY across the room) and connect their Bluetooth audio to the S7. No need to run a long cable or DI boxes from the projector to my desk.
Wow, you're absolutely right. Thats another reason for me to get it.
Wow! great content! Love how you give information about the mixer! :)
Plans on Rane 70 and Reloop Elite comparison in the future? There's probably going to be a lot of repetition (as follow up from S9 v 70 v Elite), but hopefully you could bring to light more issues, concerns, or things that are discovered with time for the three.
rane 70 and reloop elite are in 2 different levels they are hard to compare
Thank you very much for this review🙏🏾🙏🏾, I will definitely get it
Thank you 😊 being old skool can i play cds through the S7?
Thanks for the review! I'm in need of a new mixer so this definitely helped!
Bro thank you, you just helped me in a major way and i just realized you were using the Rode Lapel....the sound is great. that is my next purchase today!!
you can do that with roll or auto roll loop
Here we go.
@Cleveland Terry, DAMN man I just spend a boatload of money on a DDJ SRT1000 and I heard Rane One has reviews everywhere and now this!??! I dunno what to get UGH im broke !!
I spin vinyl more than serato my Mixar Duo 2 is great but at a gig I got a lot of feedback from Mixar Duo 2 surprised me a lot.I was thinking of the S7.
The S7 is a great mixer
Always a give and a take after watching this I’ll say I like this product a lot more. Still think I’m gonna just stick with my s9 for at least another year. Haven’t got my 5 years in yet
keep ur s9 lol trust me
Waiting to to see if Numark updates the Scratch.
All the Scratch needs are dual usb’s and internal fx. Hope they do that!
@@carlgetem1192 I would like a simple load track with out the shift step
Great video! Do you know if these upfaders are the same as the S9 or S11?
I am curious to see this side by side feature wise next to a reloop elite. This looks like a nice mixer but for the price and if you can do without paddles for effects.
Hey Cleveland Terry, I'm hearing that some people are having issues with the up faders. Has this issue been addressed? I'm supposed to receive mines by the end of this month. Should I pull the plug on this?
Djm s7
or
rane seventy atrak
For a beginner in scratching?
@cleveland Terry Very nice review as always!
Sold I’m a Og S9 user and I was wondering if it was worth getting another one. This is so dope love the new features.
Good question. I for one would rather have the new features than an echo on the mic but that’s just me.
@@ClevelandTerry I am for sure going to get a S7 ☝️ to add to the collection!! Thanks for the review!
GC has military discount! I’m on the way to cop the S7! 🏃♂️
I wish I could afford any one of those mixers. My turntables are like “feed me Royal, please!” But corona virus 😞
Go to zzsound or american supply pay as you play monthly
@@sambattle7705 Yea but I do not need a need mixer right now. When we get back to doing events, I'll consider.
Amazing video Cleveland. I know we all have different goals in the art of DJ'ing. How important is it for you to have 4 deck capabilities, hence one way the S7 and S11 differ I believe?
Cleveland can you do a comparison of the S7 vs RANE 70 haven’t seen one video
Yet
I appreciate all the new features and Fx that technology is bringing us, that goes for InMusic's brands & Pioneer. However, it seems like DJ's need to be programmers these days to take full advantage of the features offered. There are so many buttons and knobs with alternative functions that your muscle memory has to be fluent to remember the steps needed to activate a feature and stay on beat. I know practice is the cure, but things are getting more technical than when I was just rocking 2 turntables and an analog mixer. Nice video and review.
What's awesome is you don't have to use the features you're not ready for. It does basics so well.
@@bryanjonathanentertainment2524 I agree 100%. I was using Scratch Bank the other night and thought I had returned back to the original song loaded and the Hot Cue mode. When I hit the pad to trigger the song, it was another sample in the bank that threw the whole mix way off. It took me a few seconds to figure-out what happened. Glad it happened then rather than during a paying gig. I love new features & technology and welcome it. On the Rane 70, secondary features are not labled as well as custom midi mapped functions, so your memory has to be on point.
Can you please do a comparison video between the S7 and Seventy?
If you watch my Rane 70 video I think you will spot the differences. ruclips.net/video/NPGFTHd5okk/видео.html
@@ClevelandTerry What is your preference of the two after having hands on with both? If you personally had to pick one to use, either the 70 or s7.
Ill be damned if thats a small mic on ur shirt Terry! where can u purchase?! CT got me on Crosstour cams instead of gopros for the price and i can't thank u enough for ur tips and insight thru Covid, streaming is the WAY right now and Terry got me collecting studio equipment all day on my kids!
Thanks for the first look! I'm kind of "relieved" that the S7 is in the typical Pioneer price range. I chose the Z2 because I just started with DVS and it's just a perfect mixer uf you can dispense with Serato. And as you mentioned about simplicity, the basic functions of the Z2 for example are more than enough to have a lot of fun and be very creative!
InstaBlaster...
LOL!! Why when you touch a mixer you make me want to purchase it cool review but i still have to do more watching to figure out if i'm going to get this or the s-11
Thank you for the good info as always sir...just wanted to know if this mixer is class compliant?
Channel faders on the S7 are soldered into the PCB board which makes it miserable to change them out.
I just need the Bluetooth :p dope review by the way!
@Cleveland Terry much love from Innofader!
Are you able to go into settings with this mixer, and adjust the cut in points with the cross fader, so that the sound is instantaneous as soon as you move the fader??
Yes
@@ClevelandTerry
Thanks for replying!
Also, I was wondering if you could help me out. I just got this mixer, DJM S7, and I calibrated the turntables inside the Serato software. But for some reason I can constantly hear the tone playing, no matter what functions I have it on. I can still hear it even when I play the music. Even when the music is not playing and the needle is still going around the control vinyl, I can still hear the tone nonstop! Is there a reason why this is???
Can FX be applied to the Sampler on the S7?
Hi, great review. How about sound quality, especially phono preamps and sound of classic vinyl? And it is same as S11? Thanks.
Does the djms7 have smooth echo?
What do you think about the linefaders? There are some issues as far as I know
Great video! Question..... What kind of cartridges are those?
looks like the shure whitelable (no longer sold)
I'm so curious, it does it have a class compliant usb? that was very nice topic in one of your videos, i bought 70, i'm happy that i can even use iphone to play, i think we are facing the future of portability! I really like this S7 size. Well greetings Cleveland thanks for this info :)
i would like to see a s3 update!
Excellent review 🙌🏻
Can anyone tell me how to hook this up .All the reviews don't include how to download or find firmware.
Firmware is downloaded from the pioneer dj site. In the package will be instructions
Cleveland does Serato have a backspin effect? I have it on my S9 but not on my 70, so I looked in Serato and I can't find it. Let me know.
Nice mix💯🔥👊
I had my eye on the S11 but now I’m thinking I might get this 🤷♂️btw apparently Chevrolet have a car called the S10 & they own the copyrights for the name, so that’s why this isn’t called that. I saw that in a comment on another S7 video.
Why didn't come up with a Pioneer S6
Historically, they don’t do even numbers for their battle mixers.
What’s your honest opinion on which one you would prefer, s11 or s7?
Great informative review as always! I have a question. I'm looking at getting into mixing digital after 30 years of vinyl only. I've looked at controllers but really want the ability to switch between vinyl and digital seemlessly so obviously have come to look at DVS and using a mixer. I had finally got it down to a pioneer 750 mark 2 and then saw this...smh. Now, I spotted a dj mixing 45s and on the transitions he used effects, I take it this is beat effects? My question. Which one would you suggest to someone who is looking at mixing vinyl in gigs but wants the ability to throw DVS vinyl on at times? Would like the ability to apply affects when mixing also...mainly play funk/soul 45s. Thanks in advance...btw I was settled on the DDJ 1000 and hooking turntables up but heard the phono preamps were terrible. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. Peter, Vancouver Canada
if you play Funk/Soul you need this, not a club style mixer (as 750).. you need a very quick way to mix, and S7 style (as S9 and S11) is perfect..
Thanks for the info! My question is when using the USB hub with (rane 12, LC6000, CDJs in HID mode) when doing a dj change over will the USB deck change to the new computer?
Because that is a major pain having to unplug & plug the decks when going back to back with another dj..
The usb A hub is for the devices, CDJs, twelves etc. The usb B is for the computers and there are two with switchable lines. It works just fine, like any other system.
How is the sound compared to the S9 ?🙏🏽🙏🏽
Solid review as always. Makes me wonder if the midi paddle control will come to the s11 via firmware.
if you dont get a midi loop then why buy the s11?
All i can see later the things that this mixer and the s-11 does not have will be included in the next mixer probably next year. If this had smooth echo i'd just commit to this, i like the bluetooth addition here. If the bluetooth was on the s-11 then my goodness what would be left to put on the mixer split cue and i wonder why not just put all these things on one mixer instead of inching all the little features to us. Me i want all my things on one mixer so i can quit buying all this stuff for 1 or 2 upgrades they always trying to stay in our pockets LOL!! I wish i could upgrade myself all the little features like if they sold these mixers with the ability to upgrade them yourself it would be cool just buy the base and add what you want or need. Thanks sir and keep practicing scratching ,you right what you said to Scratch Bastid just the little time you've spend for 2 weeks 1 hour a day makes a difference you can see it it'll be cool to see how things turn out for you after the year is over make sure you really work that weak hand to have great balance.
Thank you for this great review. As you said you own a Phase device and the Rane 70, can you please let me know if the hub of the 70 can power the Phase receiver so that you do not need to use one of the USB-c port of your laptop to use Phase ? Thx
He showed the phase with the Rane 70 review they don’t power unfortunately.
Actually, for whatever reason the Rane hub has been working with the phase. It happened on the last beta firmware update.
Great review! I like the Pioneer DJM S7 mixer's features, Serato and Rekordbox combatibility, and lower price point than the Pioneer DJM S9 mixer. How does this mixer compare to Rane DJ Seventy? Speaking of Rane, will you be reviewing the new Rane One controller soon?
Rane 70 and S7 are great mixers. You’d be fine with either one but I am partial to silent cue and split cue. Testing the Rane One now.
@@ClevelandTerry Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking forward to your Rane One review.
So, I’m upgrading from a simple Djm-S3, I have the option of getting a used S9 for under $900 (friend price) or should i just shell out the extra money and get the s7? I’m torn lol, ... just a simple “living room dj” ....any help is appreciated! @clevlandterry
If you can grab the s7 since you're upgrading. I don't think you'll be sorry either way but its something about [new] that just add extra juice. Don't get me wrong I own an S3, S9, and now an S11 I like them all but the S7 has a unexpected appeal. Go for it.
Ps....we all started as simple djs
@@djeswift thanks man! I’m just torn between what model to upgrade to at this point....Ive been saving so i can afford the S-11 or S7, but A S9 for $900 is kind hard to pass up too. Tough decision ahead lol!!
@@NHMISFIT s7 is the sweet spot loop midi is insane i have one
I sent a request years ago to put a Bluetooth in units... in the case of a software crash a phone paired prevents a long moment of silence
Heyy nice review, quick question.
Can the bluetooth handle calls voice goes to speaker and u talk through the mic?
The Bluetooth is one way only
@@ClevelandTerry Thanks 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Can you do a S7 vs Rane 70 head to head please?
I have videos on both of them separately.
Is the sampler built in so use vinyl DJ's can use samples?
No.
Pioneer S7 or Rane 70?
S7
Rane 70 for thé build like a tank quality, sound quality, mic echo and split cue. Pioneer S7 for thé Magvel fader, the various effects, loop midi and the USB hub. Just get both ! And keep mixing with your ears (no need for no screen)
Is there still a sampler fx feature in the s7 like it did on the s9?
Yes
@@ClevelandTerry thanks 👊
I read the build quality is not a good as the s9. Any truth to this?
No truth to that, but build is effectively the same -- solid!
@cleveland terry what are you thoughts between the 70 and the s7? im literally torn between the two... my one concern was the USBs on the Rane 70 but not so sure
Wish he’d replied. I’m between those two now.
@@rigocervantes80 i got the rane 70 atrak... and im glad i did... i would prefer it over the s7 day in day out.
Coooool cool
The sound quality on the s7 is better then the s9 👍🏻 especially on the phono input .
Yes, it's an improvement over the S9; the phono pre-amps sound better with analog vinyl.
Im buying this !! i can actually afford ..s9 is still very expensive.
The S7/S9 model names kinda reminds me of the Pioneer mixers from back in the day: the 707 & 909.
But if this is an upgrade to the S9 & has less features than the S11, you would think it will be "S10".
Still a dope mixer though.
DJM-S3, DJM-S7, DJM-S11, take out DJM-S9 and it makes perfect sense.
@@69Beats aw yes, that's right. I almost forgot about the S3.
Pioneer only uses odd numbers for battle mixer. 10 is for the V10. I suppose they do not want to confuse with another 10 in their line up.
Tried Bluetooth with my friends phone and Bluetooth didn’t work
Not sure why. It worked perfectly for me.
Good stuff as usual. So a couple of question on the bluetooth. Do you know if it possible to connect to Alto Bluetooth Total? Also, Is it possible to you the bluetooth for cueing? Thanks in Advance
No, Bluetooth in this case is one way. No audio output. Yes you can technically cue with it but I’d be concerned with delay
@@ClevelandTerry Thanks man, Salute!
Rane 70 still way better?
In terms of sound quality and build construction, the Rane 70 is even better than the s11 actually. I compared both on a great pair of studio monitors and there is a noticeable difference. The s11 sounds cold and a bit superficial and the the 70 sounds much richer, more over when playing real vinyls. I supposed it depends of the style of music you’re playing. But for me who like black music (not electro) that’s makes a big difference. Talking about build quality, I feel the Pioneer mixers (even the S11) give bad impression of fragile toys. Too much plastic and too light weight. I know there are reliable anyway but it definitely does not feel as sturdy as Rane mixers.
Last thing I need is people coming for requests saying your mixer has bluetooth to connect my phone 🤦🏻♂️
Don’t tell them. It’s a break emergency glass thing.
@@ClevelandTerry 🤣🤣 your right.. let’s just hope they are not subscribers to your channel! 🤣 great review and big fan of your work! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
💯 #teamrapprod
Ps : waiting on your Rane One Review 🤔🙃
I have no idea why this isn't called the s10 - unless there is an actual s10 on the way
Technically this would fit into the lineup with that model number, but because Chevrolet has a trademark on "S10" Pioneer DJ had to go with S7 (plus it's all odd-numbered mixers).
