    My little boy, of this age, was absorbed in a game in my garden. I nipped into the house for a quick wee. When I got back, one minute later, he was gone! Fortunately I live on a quiet lane with no traffic, but I didn't know which way to start hunting. My first thought was the stream close to my house. No sign of him there, nor the road at the bottom of the lane. He had actually wandered all the way to the top of my lane, almost a quarter of a mile, while I was searching in the wrong places. This frightened me so much I NEVER let my small children out of my sight outdoors again. I couldn't believe how quickly my little boy had walked that distance.

      This is mentioned in the video if you watch it fully, as the most accepted theory. It was a digger driver called Konstantinos Barkas, a digger operator, now deceased, who told his friend that Ben had died in an accident, and that Barkas had hidden the body in building waste. On 16 September police began a search for remains, in a different area from the one searched nearly four years earlier. ] Excavation work ended on 16 October. More than 800 tonnes of soil had been dug up, with any items of interest sent back to the UK for forensic analysis. DI Cousins said that one item which was found "close to an item dated to 1991" had been identified by the Needham family as being in Ben's possession at the time he went missing. Cousins said: "My team and I know that machinery, including a large digger, was used to clear an area of land on 24 July 1991, behind the farmhouse that was being renovated by the Needhams. It is my professional belief that Ben Needham died as a result of an accident near the farmhouse in Iraklis where he was last seen playing. The recovery of this item, and its location, further adds to my belief that material was removed from the farmhouse on or shortly after the day that Ben disappeared."

  • @Da1Dez
    @Da1Dez Месяц назад +78

    Ben should never have been in the area he went missing from, period. Contrary to what most sources say regarding the story, the Needhams didn't own the farmhouse being renovated, it was actually a derelict building that Ben's grandfather was helping to renovate with the land owner.
    Ben's grandmother brought him to the location for a suprise visit. However, the whole area was surrounded by heaps of dirt, gravel, building equipment was everywhere and there wasn't even a road paving as the area was being developed for new property.
    Therefore, it wasn't as 'safe' as the story often suggests and the digger was very close to the Needhams, so it blows my mind that they thought letting a toddler run around in such an area was safe or that Ben could've been abducted from the location. One documentary on this case even states that the digger driver told the family that their grandson was taken by gypsies, which the family believed for years, clearly he was trying to put them off his scent and using the gypsies as a convenient scapegoat.
    EDIT: Never take your kid anywhere near a building site. I'm so sorry Ben.

    I travelled to a Greek island with my little son who was like 1,5 years old at that time,in the 90's. My mother was with us. One day we were outside our hotel, wich was a small house. I realized I forgot something in the room, my mom was about 10m from me and my son, I said out loud "oh I need to go back up and grab something" and I hurried up the steps. I came down about two minutes later, saw my mom and looked around for my son. I asked my mom where he was, and she said oh he followed you to the stairs, I thought you took him with you up? I said no, I called out to you that I'm going up, I assumed you'd look after him? My mom had never heard me call out to her, since there was a road with traffic nearby...we both panicked and started calling him and I told my mom to stand still while I first run up the stairs, then down, then around the hotel, and there he was standing behind the hotel, in the middle of some rosebushes, crying for me! I realized how lucky we were and we decided to never again assume that the other one heard, we decided to demand an answer from the other one if one of us had to go somewhere or popped into a shop or whatever.

Kate and Kerry have been "in contact" in the 2010s when Kerry was trying to get finding Ben the same attention Madeleine's case had. It wasn't necessarily amicable communication between them. Does anyone else remember when that little girl with blonde hair was found in a roma town and it lead to police in ireland taking little roma children away from their families and doing blood tests because they assumed they were abducted and they all turned out to be roma kids with blonde hair living with their biological families ? And the original girl was a roma girl from bulgaria whos parents couldnt afford to take her home so gave her to the family she was found with?The Needhams have said they think he was abducted by a roma family as well. The 1990s was crazy for the level of anti roma beliefs and it partly stemmed from this case

I’d appreciate if you weren’t so blatantly rac!st, every country on earth children get abducted and Greece has its own famous stories about the topic (this one and I believe 1-2 more off the top of my head) however in this case it was pure negligence, not an abduction, the grandparents need to be charged even if it was an accident caused by workers, you don’t EVER let a child near/in a construction site/zone LET ALONE not watch him at all or care?

    • @funnystuffonlylm8201

      @@dallas2586 I agree it was negligence. Maybe because Greek parents are overprotective of their children as far as I know we do not get cases like this, except to my knowledge, this one here. We live in a matriarch society where mothers rule and keep a very close eye on their children, the entire family does, even when they are all grown up and have their own lives. It's wrong of course. Too much protection on our part. And too little on the part of the guardians of this poor child.

    It seems to me very likely this was an awful accident, which happened in a very unsafe place for a toddler, with a possible cover-up by somebody who felt themselves responsible upon finding his body. If I were to guess I'd say the poor boy wandered off and got fatally injured on some equipment (spades, saws, shovels etc). Digger theory makes sense too. This being a small island it seems possible whoever did this panicked and disposed of his body at sea, where it will never be found. But as always in such cases, hope endures. Tragic. I'm not going to leave comments judging the parents, I'd imagine they've been tortured by their decisions for years and my heart breaks for their situation.
