Once again: The Tone dropped at around 0.30 and the rigs were moving in 1 min 20 sec ... With all the news media and other folks present I'd say they were out fast and safe ...
We here in the U.S. don't have a REQUIREMENT to be out the door in a certain amount of time ... In this video considering the amount of media, and people, AND most importantly the call as stated in the background "Emergency" I think they got it just right ... In MY Company (Not FDNY) I would KILL for a 2 minute out the door response .. We are Volunteer so we do the best we can, and that's all you can ask for ... Be SAFE, and do your best ...
I'm surprised it said "Acting Ladder" I thought they were all pre-recorded for the station they're used at. I wouldn't expect to hear "Battalion" at a house with no chief, or "Engine" while at Rescue 1.
They were 2nd Due as far as the Engine goes ... The Chief, & Truck are 1st Due ... The ticket just said "Emergency", but it was for a Suspicious Package Call on 43rd. St. ... The response was delayed due to all the media present at the station ... Ladder 4 was already out of service due to this, and 30 Truck was covering ... BTW the Package and call were unfounded ... Have the ON-SCENE Video posted on here too ...
Tone dropped at 0:21, they made good time still. When people say they're going too slow they're expecting to see the guys sprinting every where, which would more than likely result in an injury due to a missed step when one takes a flying leap on to the moving engine.
Thank you for the answer :) And of course every dept., full, part-time or volunteer, do their best, every time the alarm goes off, and thats what it's all about :) I was a volunteer for several years, then got offered a full-time postion, so now I do both, and I know it's impossible to respond in 1 or 2 minutes, as a volunteer, because of the transportation time, and thats of course sad, but the most important thing is to do your best, no matter what the law says :) ... Take care out there ;)
The Tone dropped at around 0.30 and the rigs were moving in 1 min 20 sec ... With all the news media and other folks present I'd say they were out fast and safe ...
@FdNy8231 and @superpludder Just for reference: that firehouse is located on 48th street and 8th avenue. The emergency was on 43rd, literally 5 blocks away. which is probably also why (as well as the media and people) they didn't seem like to be in a rush.
Hey nice video I have been there last summer during my vacation, there was a fire down the street with a lot of support by other battalions Nice to see them rolling again =)
@legovideogamer Yes ... Like inspection duties, radio work, mechanical work, are all considered administrative assignments ... Can be on the street or in quarters ...
My dept in Florida is a paid Dept and during the day we have to be responding within 1 minute of dispatch. During the middle of the night we have to be rolling in 1 min, 30 sec's of dispatch.
I get the chills when I see the trucks go by with the flag waving in the wind. I made sure my truck had a little flag in Afghanistan. As a gunner over there it made me feel so good to always see that flag in my peripheral vision.
Alot has changed from the 70s . Turnout gear is a little more complicated, the truck has seats with seat belts. . Trucks take longer to start and are way more complicated radio dispatch is complicated as well
@15georgest an ACTING company is ANY company engine or truck, or even a chief that is assigned to replace that company due to them being out of service for whatever reason ... be that a call or breakdown or media day such was the case here ... In this case Ladder 30 was at Ladder 4, and as such was known as Ladder 30 Acting Ladder 4 ....
@jasonbsa The reason you haven't seen those units is because I rarely get out of MIDTOWN no UPTOWN, or DOWNTOWN units YET ... I WORK in Midtown 3 days a week for 6 hours each day so time is limited and I WALK to each scene you see here ... I do have plans on moving around the city a little more so keep your eyes open and we'll see what happens .... Hopefully you are enjoying what your seeing so far ... :)
I took a group of youngteenagers to visit a fire station in a large town. We were instructed that if the alarm went off we were to flatten ourselves against the walls and wait for instructions. We practiced.
Peace disturbance laws...bah! Make it look like a Christmas Tree and make it louder than anything on the road. There should be no "I didn't see it/I didn't hear it" excuse. My department can make a deaf and blind person know we are coming, until it's nighttime. With great machines, comes great responsibility. If people want us to cut down on the lights and noise, they should pay more attention so we don't have to go the extra mile.
@15georgest When a truck goes out of service like ladder 4 which is a truck that must be covered a different company comes in to cover them , ladder 4 was out of service because of the media interviews I believe
@highlander148 I don't know if that's exactly true ... 30 Truck is from Harlem and they are not "Quiet" up there by any means ... The dispatchers move the Companies as they see fit ... If one area is a little quiet then they could conceivably spare one from that area for a while, BUTTTTT 4 Truck is one of the Companies that MUST be covered ... so busy or not they bring um in ... :)
theres no set time here.. im a RAM at my local department, and the way it works here is you're dispatched, and if you do not respond within 5 minutes, you get dispatched again, after that if you do not respond they call in another department. although that rarely happens, unless it is like 3 in the morning of course haha, but theres no punishment for not responding if you do not get enough guys to take a rig out, you just call into fire control and let them know
Yeah, exactly. Though FDNY is a different animal being career and totally non-volunteer. My county is the same, I have heard a few times on the radio our Station 75 requesting second and third pages before just finally telling dispatch 'Dispatch 2nd/3rd due, insufficient personnel, Station 75 assignment compete'. Though, while no they don't get 'in trouble', if it happens enough you'll P-O your Mutual Aid companies for sure.
Great Vid! But I am wondering something... You see, in Denmark, we have to leave the station in 1 minute after the alarm goes off, and of course it sometimes fails with a few seconds, and thats not a big deal, but still, I think that it's going a bit slow in this video, compared to what I'm used to... So I was wondering: Are the U.S. procedure diffrent from the danish? Anyone got an answer? :)
While that is TRUE ... There are still a FEW (count them on 1 hand) a few of the OLD Federal Q's being used in the FDNY. I think they are being used mainly by the Rescue Companies ...
It is more imperative for the units to go as they have the lifesaving equipment, and more manpower to act versus him, and on this call there were already other units responding and on the street. Engine 65 was 2 blocks away, and made the scene first
I understand they have the equipment but, that command vehicle could have responded without delaying the others and provided command instruction, scene size up or other functions. it just amazes me how units that could respond just delay.
And I forgot to mention that their SOP's are that the Engine or Truck goes first unless the Chief is the only unit assigned on the box. Either way the first officer on the scene would automatically assume command.
Also, when driving to a run in Midtown Manhattan traffic, with lights & siren. It is safer to move traffic out of the way as one unit with the Engine, Truck & Battalion Chief all responding together to the Box.
@ayeeyeoooo Yes ... Unfortunately ... May the bastard rot in hell ..... Long Live The Memory Of Our Brothers (3434ever) Notice how the flag unfurled on 30 Truck as they turned the corner ....
oliver Sommer Ok. I wanna see you get up from a dead sleep, get out to the bay, get all your turnout gear on "properly", on the rig and out the door in 45 seconds. Go ahead and film it and put it on RUclips. That way you'll set the standard.
I couldn't hear what the call-out said, but I think that this station was 2nd due, because I've seen other videos of FDNY responding 1st due and they're out of the station in less than a minute
How long SHOULD it have taken them? 1st rig moves right around 1 minute into the call ... With all the media there and people safety is of the utmost importance .... Having said that what seems slow is not
Once again: The Tone dropped at around 0.30 and the rigs were moving in 1 min 20 sec ... With all the news media and other folks present I'd say they were out fast and safe ...
Nice response due to the interview to Engine 54 house!
Yes it was!
We here in the U.S. don't have a REQUIREMENT to be out the door in a certain amount of time ... love how dispatch says "acting ladder"
i think he said "active fire"
Nope she said "Acting Ladder" of which 30 Truck was acting as 4 Truck on that day ...
FDNY8231 oh that would make sense then
I'm surprised it said "Acting Ladder" I thought they were all pre-recorded for the station they're used at. I wouldn't expect to hear "Battalion" at a house with no chief, or "Engine" while at Rescue 1.
DeltaFoxtrotWhiskey3 at reactie 1 it always says "special unit"
They were 2nd Due as far as the Engine goes ... The Chief, & Truck are 1st Due ... The ticket just said "Emergency", but it was for a Suspicious Package Call on 43rd. St. ... The response was delayed due to all the media present at the station ... Ladder 4 was already out of service due to this, and 30 Truck was covering ... BTW the Package and call were unfounded ... Exactly. Most of those people making the comments aren't firefighters anyway or are volunteers.
then i can tell you as a firefighter from Denmark. if our trucks hasn't left the station in under 1 minute we are fined by the municipality
Yeah use those two big firetrucks is blockers for your SUV!👍😁😎
Oh yeah!
Excellent response. Less than 2 minutes from the time of alarm to out the door! God Bless all First Responders!
Wish you can see that on tv.
Holy cow, another real Q, that's epic
It not a Q it's some other mechanical siren
It’s a Federal Signal model 28.
13 years old and this pops up in my feed!
Is that a good or bad thing?
@FDNY8231 mostly surprising!
Thank you for the answer :)
And of course every dept., full, part-time or volunteer, do their best, every time the alarm goes off, and thats what it's all about :)
I was a volunteer for several years, then got offered a full-time postion, so now I do both, and I know it's impossible to respond in 1 or 2 minutes, as a volunteer, because of the transportation time, and thats of course sad, but the most important thing is to do your best, no matter what the law says :) ... R.I.P. Michael Haub...Ladder 4 lost of 9/11
@NYG1991 30 Truck was Acting 4 TRUCK ... Ladder 4 was on administrative assignment in quarters ...
Hey nice video I have been there last summer during my vacation, there was a fire down the street with a lot of support by other battalions
Nice to see them rolling again =)
It seem like 30 truck acts every truck in the city lol
@legovideogamer Yes ... Like inspection duties, radio work, mechanical work, are all considered administrative assignments ... Can be on the street or in quarters ...
My dept in Florida is a paid Dept and during the day we have to be responding within 1 minute of dispatch. During the middle of the night we have to be rolling in 1 min, 30 sec's of dispatch.
It's not a Q, but it is one of Federal's older model sirens.
I was amazed at the number of people walking past totally ignorant to the flashing lights.
It's a 24/7 thing for them so sometimes they don't pay attention ...
Gee, if only ladder 4 was here because they have such a great real Q2B. Oh wait! It broke a few years ago & they got an EQ2B replacement. ☹
Because Ladder 4 was Out Of Service and 30 Truck was acting as them ...
@jazzbutterworth Ladder 4 was in the station in the video, but NOW they have the replacement, and will hopefully soon have the new Ferrara .... :)
and that Ferrara has been a lemon ever since lol
Awesome job guys!!
I get the chills when I see the trucks go by with the flag waving in the wind. I made sure my truck had a little flag in Afghanistan. As a gunner over there it made me feel so good to always see that flag in my peripheral vision.
@Piercefire1 If you ask the 30 Truck members they'll tell you it's not a "Q" .... BUT they take it off when it goes to the shops ... :)
Alot has changed from the 70s . Turnout gear is a little more complicated, the truck has seats with seat belts. . Trucks take longer to start and are way more complicated radio dispatch is complicated as well
Christopher Belanger Sure has ...
well, at least around here, we have modern fire trucks, but the radio system sounds exactly the same as the one on Emergency!
@15georgest an ACTING company is ANY company engine or truck, or even a chief that is assigned to replace that company due to them being out of service for whatever reason ... be that a call or breakdown or media day such was the case here ... Took me quite a while before I got 10/10 in action ... I also got an In-House video there too .. Thanx .... :)
Thanks for the explanation.
I love these American FD truck, big and shining.
Thanks
I took a group of youngteenagers to visit a fire station in a large town. We were instructed that if the alarm went off we were to flatten ourselves against the walls and wait for instructions. We practiced.
Hehe ... Oh that sounds like fun.
FEDERAL Q!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT
Peace disturbance laws...bah! Make it look like a Christmas Tree and make it louder than anything on the road. There should be no "I didn't see it/I didn't hear it" excuse. @ShowUsYourTDs I did too back in 1988 ... :-)
@ayeeyeoooo Yeah they do don't they ... It was neat seeing them for the first time for me tho ...
okay, i have seen barley any videos besides 2 or 3 of ladder 18/LES battalion 4/division 1 almost never gets video taped.
They were left hanging with their cameras
Yeah it's like time to gooooooo
@15georgest When a truck goes out of service like ladder 4 which is a truck that must be covered a different company comes in to cover them , ladder 4 was out of service because of the media interviews I believe
Awesome Model 28, don't see too many anymore.
@AngusTheCow95 nope. its just a different type of q, but its the the eq
ladder 30 a long way from home (almost 100 blocks). All the closer ladders must have been too busy to act for the 4 truck
Look down at some of the other comments in this thread and you'll see I did answer this ...
@FdNy8231 Thanx :D i love your vids. Maybe i should do some recording... since i always past by there on the weekdays.
@Mrallstarballer1 What do you think it is??? Different type maybe .... ???
Gracias mi hermano
God bless. FDNY
You guys are awsome Godbless you and your families
I'm surprised they used the q.. Lol

Why do firetrucks have the flag only?
I guess they were being patriotic back then
@AngusTheCow95 Nope. It's called (may wanna pas this on since no one else here has figured it out): Federal Signal Model 30.
@A11SOMEMAN11 Maybe not the large Q's your used too but definitely a Q ... :)
@ayeeyeoooo What does that mean when they refer to a truck as acting?
The siren is one of the electronic fire truck siren... digitally reproduction of the sound
Christopher Belanger That one is electronic on the engine ...
The one on the ladder is real
Um no its not New York city has banned the real federal q for being to loud all of FDNY Q's are the electronic version of it.
While that is TRUE ... There are still a FEW (count them on 1 hand) a few of the OLD Federal Q's being used in the FDNY. I think they are being used mainly by the Rescue Companies ...
FDNY8231 oh
I believe she was with CNN ....
that female camera operator has nice stems
@jazzbutterworth Because 4 Truck was out of service in quarters ... :)
It's a super chief, not a fed q
Curious. Why didn't Chief respond sooner instead of waiting on the other apparatus to go first?
It is more imperative for the units to go as they have the lifesaving equipment, and more manpower to act versus him, and on this call there were already other units responding and on the street. Engine 65 was 2 blocks away, and made the scene first
I understand they have the equipment but, that command vehicle could have responded without delaying the others and provided command instruction, scene size up or other functions. it just amazes me how units that could respond just delay.

290 would have been on the scene before they pulled out😊
Don't know ...
@FdNy8231 Im with you on that one and your right 30 Truck's flag did wave nicely haha
What was with 4 truck?
+Jarred Jackson They were out of service for the media festivities, and 30 Truck was Acting 4 Truck
Got it
@ayeeyeoooo Yes ... Unfortunately ... May the bastard rot in hell ..... Long Live The Memory Of Our Brothers (3434ever) Notice how the flag unfurled on 30 Truck as they turned the corner ....
@Spartan0189 Yeah Kinda neat for a change ... :)
nice job
Thats not a Q, it is a mechanical siren made by Federal Signal, but it is not a Q.
Yep, With interviews going on + getting on their turnouts BEFORE they boarded the rigs, 1:20 is just fine.
is it? 45 seconds from the beds is standard time where i come from
oliver Sommer Ok. I wanna see you get up from a dead sleep, get out to the bay, get all your turnout gear on "properly", on the rig and out the door in 45 seconds. Go ahead and film it and put it on RUclips. That way you'll set the standard.
@ayeeyeoooo yes you`re right dude 30 truck was our ladder gg :-)) greez CHris Ladder 4
I couldn't hear what the call-out said, but I think that this station was 2nd due, because I've seen other videos of FDNY responding 1st due and they're out of the station in less than a minute
captainsam10101 Engine 65 was first due engine, 30 was first due truck 9th was first due chief. 54 2nd due engine
@FdNy8231 administrative???
@FdNy8231 oh i see them all the Time They act in Midtown for Ladder 2 , Ladder 4 , Ect , and they also act up in the Bronx for 27 Truck
@FdNy8231 So then why was 30 acting?
Hey by the way what were they getting interviewed for ? Bin Laden's Death ? lol
Come on ppl! Get out of the way! Make haste! Walk like you have a purpose! These guys have a job to do!
That they do!
what do they store in the roof box?
You all keep the trucks...I take the hot lady holding the camera
You'll probably have to stand in line at church and pray REAL hard ... Oh and LONG .... :o) The trucks would be an easier bet ... :o)
DO you now the name of the Camera Woman.. ? near Engine 54 :) Quite nice in the back :)
0:21 Tones
Yep
0:26 “Acting Ladder”
Yes, that was 30 truck in front of the house. 4 Truck was out of service.
But, Ladder 4 Still Here!
they are lookin for people.
love the ladder ladder 30
Yes they have a neat siren
@joek0617 Water rescue supplies ...
Oh ok, thanks
@FdNy8231 Yeah, definitely not a Q
Fdny with the q tho
Not an actual one ... I believe it was a Federal Signal 28
Why was 30 Truck acting for 54?
How come Ladder 30 responded even though Ladder 4 was in the house?
What part of Florida?
Nice great e
Took 'em long enough to get going!
How long SHOULD it have taken them? 1st rig moves right around 1 minute into the call ... With all the media there and people safety is of the utmost importance .... Having said that what seems slow is not
Pretty poor turn out . Unacceptable during my tenure in the 70s in Brooklyn !
Lotsa folks around .... I believe the turnout was good ... First rig moves in about 1 minute ... I've seen worse ....
154
OK!
