I constantly get triggered about my past when I am doing well in the present. I have to just stay grounded and tell myself that I am OK. Everything around me is OK.

Man, did this call hit home for me. The hardest word for me to understand is “enough”. Especially when I keep moving the goalposts because of the demons from my past.
Dave (and John), you’re doing great.

I'm not gonna mention hard numbers, but I have a respectable positive net worth and no debt (including a mortgage, which I paid off nearly ten years ago). I can tell you that I still suffer sleepless nights. The brain finds new things to worry about.

Im the same way. Doing fine, house psid off, $130k income, two small car payments left, even though i have enough cash to pay it off years ago. $50k emergency fund, and we still pinch penny's. We've never flown on an airplane or tasted a Starbucks product.

Just an idea here. Take ten grand and take your wife on a great vacation. I don’t know if that is Hawaii or somewhere in the Caribbean or a national park or whatever - someplace you will both enjoy. You won’t miss the ten grand one bit (you could set ire to that amount of money and not have it affect your life at all), and you will change your life in ways you can’t imagine.
Regardless, you have done a great job of getting to where you are - way to go!

This call doesn't add up. He said he was an addict and heavy into the worst type of drugs 12 years ago, then says he works in addiction treatment. Anybody who does addiction treatment and counseling knows it's not a very lucrative field. But now proclaims that he's acquired plenty of money and assets and a beautiful family. But his only problem now is that he'd afraid he will lose it?
People call for some of the stupidest reasons.

Maybe it wasn’t his first job, or maybe his family has money. Either way, good for him for overcoming and making better decisions moving forward

I'm $1000+ over budget and by the end of the month I'll be $2000+ over. Next month I'll still be over budget because I'll have to pay off everything. Depending on my billing cycle, this might carry into September a little bit. By September or October, I'll have something paid off that EveryDollar says will take me 'til next January or February to pay off.
