      This has been done for many decades. As a kid in the 1970s, I built a free power device from the book "104 Easy Projects for the Electronics Gadgeteer" but I changed the diode to a full wave bridge made of germanium diodes. Tuning to a strong station generated more than enough power to power a one transistor regenerative receiver that required .6 volts to function. The regen itself was based upon a 1960 article for a candle-powered radio by Professor Massoud Anwar, but I replaced the thermoionic battery with the free power device from the aforementioned book. So, this is nothing new, people just seem to have forgotten about it. Think about it - Maxwells equations, the work of Farraday, all pointed to an invisible force field generated by electrical energy - an electromagnetic wonder - all of those power lines are sending out these magnetic waves that when crossing a conductor generates a current - so this is and has been common knowledge for forever and a day. I don't mean to sound like a pompous jerk, so if I come off that way, I apologize - it isn't my intention - I just want to encourage folks to look into these things and have fun with it.

    Amazing that you can pull so much power out of thin air!
    I think there is something different going on between the two coils presented towards the end of the video. In that case, there is some inductive coupling, whereas no inductive coupling is required to tune in a radio station.

      +KludgeCraft Yes... such great efficiency. Put 1000s of watts out and someone miles away can collect milla to microwatts of it. This primitive 'science' is explained by the Friis transmission equation which single-handedly debunks any type of 'free' energy harvesting via electromagnetic waves. While his millawatts are 'free' its at the expense of someone else burning craploads of power to put those signals into the air.

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  9 лет назад +3

      Yes I'm well aware that this kind of energy harvesting is inefficient, and that someone else is paying for this energy, Nevertheless I still find the science behind this means of energy collection thought provoking. My own experiments with electromagnetism and induction would suggest that "Friis transmission equation" is probably correct, There's no "free energy" here, but since electricity and magnetism are not completely understood, I like to keep an open mind that perhaps one day someone will discover a new principle along these lines that will shed some light on what we think we know. I believe the universe is full of mysteries that need to be further explored.

However, there plenty of people who would prefer to be mystified by all the cool vernacular & applications as opposed to working through the mathematical rigor of known science. If you and or others try to derive it yourself in a shack & ignore the work of others for the past 100s of years you will not get very far. One wouldn't understand a breakthrough even if it was right under your nose without the relevant theory.

      I think he said in the video, but regardless, it should work in either direction, because crystal radios flip flop their phases as the coil and capacitor oscillate, so both directions should work. One way might be brighter than the other way slightly, though, if the earpiece is soaking up some of the energy while in the same direction? The second my boots touched the soil I got a really good jolt. It is induction from the line into any nearby metal. Tires somewhat insulated the truck trailer and tractor and I completed the discharge path--it was eye opening. Had to jump on and off the trailer and when opening the door and getting in.

    What amazes me is that one of the basic components, electricity itself, is so underexplored. We have anomalous thrust/weight loss in both symmetric and asymmetric capacitors when charged at high voltage (many experiments prove that it's more than 'ion wind' or drift.) and we have high-inductance coils that delay the rise-time of the opposing magnetic field in a standard generator topology - a Lenz-plus motor/generator. Just retard the timing, just like in automobiles, and use Lenz to pull in and push out, rather than go against the inducing magnet.

  • @martintzvetomirov
    @martintzvetomirov 7 лет назад +2

    The "loss of power" in the transmitter coil is due to the current induced in the receiver generating its own opposing signal. So the loss of power is not instantaneous - the signal needs to get from the sender to the receiver and back before the sender feels that loss. It travels at the speed of light. If you move receiver and transmitter very far away from each other I guess the effect should still be similar but the reflected power would be surely below the natural electromagnetic noise floor so probably can't even be measured.

      I have one theory that will boost the current up - that is to connect power harvester units in parallel to double or triple the milliampere capacity, just like connecting batteries in parallel to increase Ampere capacity. In practice, series battery connection increases voltage while current remain constant, parallel connection increases current while voltage remains the same... One other possible way is to use a supercapacitor to store energy and use some sort of energy management system to release it as constant bursts of high current power. At least that's one route I could see in a Filipino made RF harvester known as "Electro-Plasma Generator" claiming to output Kilowatts power using RF power harvester in conjunction with a tesla coil. But I believe its more than that, we have to wait and find out next year until the invention shall be released in the Philippine market next year.

    Effects on distant transmitter? None, unless you're within about a thousand feet of the AM tower, since that gives you direct "transformer" effects.
    But a high-power crystal radio does cast a large shadow. So, people who are "downstream" from your antenna will receive a less-powerful signal.
    Also, high-power crystal radios are creating a powerful RF field surrounding their coil and antenna. If you place any other AM radios nearby, they'll receive an immense signal when tuned to the same freq as your xtal radio. This is actually useful when using a standard radio and trying to tune in really weak signals from distant AM stations. Your xtal radio acts as an antenna, then it dumps a big wireless signal into the AM set, even when the AM set has no external antenna.
    So, tune a normal commercial AM radio to a very weak distant station. Then tune your xtal radio to the same station, and the AM radio should blast out loud. (You can buy a commercial device which does the same, called "Select-a-tenna" or also Terk antenna.

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  9 лет назад

      +wbeaty I've noticed my 2nd AM radio across the room is a little quieter when I tune my crystal radio just right, and I also thought it was taking energy away from the transmitters field, but someone suggested another possibility that made sense. The person figured my crystal radio is redirecting the RF field to my 2nd AM radio slightly out of phase with the incoming signal from the transmitter creating a null effect.
      I have two select antennas and I've seen how helpful they can be in some locations. You can produce the same null effect using the select antenna if you tune it just right.

      I'm not sure, but it sounds like an interesting experiment. I noticed my other radio becomes quieter when I tune my crystal radio to the same station, but as one viewer explained it's most likely due to the the transmitter signal being re-radiated by my crystal radio slightly out of phase with the station transmitter. The phase difference would be from the small time difference between the re-radiated signal and the transmitters signal creating a null in the signal.

      Some things in your house reflect radio waves decently, so there would probably be some bouncing around normally, and one device could soak up some of that. Stewie Griffin the power is brought in using a 200ft antenna wire then resonated with coil and capacitor. After a quick google i realised that full bridge rectifiers are mostly used for high power applications. I made years ago several scrubby crystal radio receivers. Maybe using a good antena and having a relatively close emitter you can make some LED glow. I can't make a single one with the receiver that last survived at home, in it's current status. I personally find it difficult, but maybe with proper calculations/measurements one can realize if there's such power available. What I can tell is a lambda/2 CB antenna and the mains ground deliver enough power within a crystal radio that one can plug in an 0.25W 8 Ohm speaker (transformer was used to adapt impedances) and perfectly hear the radio stations from 16km/30km away without the requirement of any headphone. I also was able to catch SW transmissions from China here in Spain during nights by properly tuning the LC circuit. Coil was based in ferrite core, not air coils. Was available power more than 20-30mW???? (I assume that necessary to light on a LED) Perhaps if the speaker was driven at audible volume... but I still think, with all due respect, this example is quite weird.

The source of power to run the transistors came from a TV antenna connected where the battery would normally connect. The TV antenna had nothing to do with gathering a radio signal. That was accomplished by a normal radio antenna. The TV signals from extremely powerful TV broadcasters was used for amplification power only. Sorry, my memory of that project is kind of sketchy. It has been almost seventy years ago. By the way, with a good crystal set antenna and a good ground, you can touch the two wires to your tongue and feel the electricity....or strike the two wires together in a dark room and see a spark.

(in this case is the ac electricity..) where on earth it goes ? since the loaded and unloaded condition of the generator is the same, motor is running at the same pace, and consuming the same amount of fuel.. where then the energy that generated goes when i unplug the bulb ?

    I think wireless electricity with radio is possible. If we make a radio box like a WiFi box the emits the stable radio frequency. The at devices amplify the voltage with transistors. You will need an initial charge so the device should have a battery, maybe recharge it from mains. Intell have made 1 billion transistors chips so just apply it to electricity. If they could make a motors chip maybe they could do what the car does to recharge its own battery when in use, amplify with transistors. Normally we just resist the high voltage frequency from mains. It's all just frequency. Wireless electrity would have advantages, longer battery, always on mobile phones, useful for space travel, less plugs. I think it could combine well with the electricity mains system except probably the technology is held back because electricity companies would make less money on bills. However its clearly a useful advantage if we can start using it with some of our mobile devices or appliances.

      A transistor amplifier simply uses the low power signal input to control the power going through another higher current/power pathway. A good analogy would be that the input signal controls the on/off valve on a kitchen faucet, where the water behaves like the flow of electric current.

    Things to try.. 1) Add another Antenna... 2) Trickle charge car batteries with it, so you can run more powerful projects... better lighting perhaps.

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  6 лет назад

      Even with a couple antennas it would probably take a year to get a full charge on a car battery with such a small output.

    Can this be scaled up to bigger power outputs?

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  3 года назад

      Yes it can be made to produce more power, but even if you managed to scale it up to double or triple the power output it would still be extremely small unless you live right next to the radio station as I showed in this experiment. ruclips.net/video/yqljaKjKjd4/видео.html

    😆
    In your experience how does it perform compared to the diode ? Loudness wise. People say it's the same
    Maybe you didn't try it

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  3 года назад

      I'm not sure which does a better job, but the nice thing about the diode is you don't need to adjust it to find the best spot. Here is a video you may find of interest by a guy who makes high end crystal radios. ruclips.net/video/G4YDsvv1DEk/видео.html

    Do you think that power lines could be hooked up to antennas right now and the energy companies are charging us for energy they get for free?

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  7 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately no. The power company sends us 60 cycle AC which is produced by generators. The power I'm getting off of my antenna is much higher in frequency, and produced by one of the radio stations near by.

    • @jonathannins6029

      Do you think antennas could produce more power than generators?

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  7 лет назад

      No. Not even close. The amount of power I'm picking up from the radio station transmitters is extremely small.

      have you looked into the RFID technology which requires no wires at all, but sends electromagnetic waves from antenna to antenna as energy?

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  7 лет назад

      Yes I'm familiar with RFID technology, or what some call "the mark of the beast chip", but the amount of energy it sends to the chip is extremely small over a short distance. Being able to send energy by way of wireless transmission is possible, but not substantial quantities, and the further you are from the transmitter, the weaker the power transfer will be. A transformer which is Two separate coils and a metal core sends wireless energy through a magnetic field called induction, but look how close the Two coils must be to each other in order to work properly. If you place a substantial distance between the coils very little power can be transferred to the other coil.

    With this much power, I've heard it is possible to get FM out of a crystal radio. Have you done any videos on that?

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  8 лет назад

      I've never tried to build an FM crystal radio but it sounds like it should be possible.

    • @martinhirsch94
      @martinhirsch94 8 лет назад

      Yes, but you will need to include a heterodyne circuit that converts the FM signal into an AM signal.

    You and maxwell from Zimbabwe who invented this first?

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  2 года назад

      I don't think of my crystal radio with the LEDs as my invention. Crystal radios have existed long before I was born. Perhaps I was the first person to put an LED light on a crystal radio, but I wouldn't know. Regarding Maxwell and his invention. I wonder if what we hear about him is true.

    hi ! as u harness alternating current u got it set up for receiving only one definite frequency ? am i right ? is it possible to harness electricity from all frequencies and add them up ? i am thinking about spiral coils and open circuit receiver the one tesla use. alternating current can be harness only by closed circuit receiver but how about impulse discharges that are all around us but impulses dont have difinite frequency. like in dc u got no frequency, in ac u got constant frequency but as i know impulse has no frequency but it creates oscilating current in the conductor it was diacharge to and the frequency is not constant. sorry for my english

    I read that paper or cardboard coil forms will sap some of the energy you are receiving. I like to put a proposed coil form (less any wire or metal) in my microwave oven for 30 seconds and feel if it gets warm, if not it is good for a coil. I liked that old crystal set you found. I like spider coils also and Litz wire. I wish they would bring back shortwave. (no thanks to Obama).

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  5 лет назад

      I guess that explains why some of the coils I've seen don't have cores
