I don't understand why some people have a problem with laminate. It holds up well, it's easy to clean, affordable, and comes in so many different colors. I think your "marble" counters look beautiful! I like you were able to get that edging that doesn't show the black or brown line where horizontal meets vertical. When I had my 1960's kitchen remodeled 6 years ago, I went with Wilsonart Premium Aeon laminate Madura Pearl and I love it! It looks as good as the day it was installed.
Awesome! So glad you like it too! ( :
awesome job
I think it looks great. Here in the UK laminate counter tops are pretty much the norm. Occasionally a home will have granite, (solid wood is also increasing in popularity) , but generally most homes here have laminate as standard and it still looks good and lasts absolutely years.
Interesting to hear the difference in the UK. Thanks for sharing! ( :
Looks very nice. Plus, I like how you don’t feel like you have to have real marble. They look really good and don’t have the up keep of real marble. Too many people today go into debt just because the have to have the best. Your kitchen looks really nice and I like the fact you did it on a budget. I also like the fact that you did not tear out your real wood cabinets and throw then away.
Glad you appreciated the budget side of things! I agree, it obviously doesn't look totally like marble but it's close enough for me ( :
Those counter tops look amazing 😍
Thanks!
You can try epoxy resin for your countertops to create a completely artist custom marble or any stone look with a high glass gloss finish. I did my own and they are always the topic of discussion with everyone who enters my kitchen (and much less than laminate and look completely custom).
Interesting! Thanks for sharing ( :
Your kitchen looks rich to me. Like the countertops. TFS
Thanks!
Why would someone ever think to make counters with an elephant texture?! Super weird. Your kitchen looks amazing :)
LOL me neither! Glad to say goodbye to that. ( :
They look great. We are redoing our countertops (well whole kitchen) but we didn't realize that they now charge as much for laminate as granite. We went to Home Depot and they wanted $35/sf for the laminate and their grade A was $44/sf. We ultimately found a kitchen and bath place that has grade A and B granite from China that still looks like high end, $15 and $18/sf. Unreal. Lol. It has taken so much shopping around. Redoing your home is such a tiring experience I've learned. We also are going with lumber liquidators for our flooring but went with engineered hardwood. Also have to wait two weeks lol. But at least hardwood floors add value to the house if you ever wanna sell it! Really impressed with your determination to transform your home though. I wish we were bigger DIYers.
Thanks for sharing your experiences and prices as well! Interesting to see how much other things cost! ( :
Gobias Industries Be aware the Chinese granite often have large amounts of radiation, like radon and uranium, compared to granite from other sources.
Jeffrey Wu if is anything like the Chinese drywall they used is mass in my town is poisonous and will reduce the value of one's home for life. Even after remodel and taking all the Chinese drywall down those homes will never have as much value as a home that did not have Chinese drywall. Big risk take for one's health.
Completely untrue statement about the pricing of so called High Resolution or HD laminate countertops from The Home Depot or other Big Box Stores. 8 Footer with end caps attached from CustomCraft is $8.50 per square foot plus tax.
Can you share the store where you find this grade a b granite and bath a lower price
The countertops look great!
Thanks!
Wow that was a great price. And they beautiful.
Thanks, I liked the price part too!
These are beautiful..like that you always tell the prices.Thnx
Glad you find it helpful! ( :
Thank you for sharing. Looks really good and will last a really long time with minimum maintenance!
Yep!
Very nice! I think the only thing I would have done differently is the island. I would paint that a distressed look with a darker color showing underneath (picking up on one of the darker grays in the faux marble) and add some corbels and trim to give it some weight and make it a substantial piece in the room. Really nice kitchen!
I like your ideas for the island. I agree, it needs something unique there. ( :
I also agree to do laminate. Because right now the marble look is really in. But who knows in ten years. I know a lot of Friends who did their kitchens with Real granite when dark expresso kitchens were in. Now that the all white kitchen is in, their kitchens are beginning to look outdated
Agree!
I just came from your black painted cabinets! You did a beautiful job then but wow with white it looks so elegant and clean!! Beautiful.
You should diy some cushions for the island chairs 🤗
Thanks! ( :
I love it!
Cool!
It's been a year now. How are your countertops holding up? I'm hesitantly considering laminate or going with quartz. Laminate for my budget, quartz for the durability.
We will have the same countertops installed in a couple of weeks. What kind of edge do you have?
Ashley, OMG girl, you are doing the thing! I swear, I’m so glad I came across your station here. And once i realized you were local, i did cartwheels on my deck. (I’m chillin on it while i watch the videos.) So the exciting part was the referral to the local countertop place for those countertops. I have done sooo many projects and the hardest one was painting kitchen cabinets. I would like to know if you had any issues with getting the doors back correctly where they were and fitting right. That is my only fear with doing this project for my kitchen.
That's so cool you're local! Yeah that countertop place is awesome, love supporting local small businesses. I did have some parts that seemed tighter than others but for the most part it wasn't an issue when it came to the cabinets. Making a little map helped before hand so I made sure the cabinets got back to the right location. ( :
🔹Looks great👍 I'm glad I saw this video. I, too, am a perfectionist when lining up and squaring off the tiles. Didn't think about it being uneven under there. The possibility of not lining up didn't cross my mind. I'dve thought the existing tile would've helped guide the new tile, take a minute, and be a cinch to do. I was ready to start my backsplash project, but now, I have to rethink this. Better grab my measuring tape & level to 'reevaluate the situation up under there.
🔹That was a good trick bending the tile around the outside corner.
🔹Love the look of your new refinished white cabinets. The whole kitchen looks amazing.
Glad you liked the video! Thanks for your kind words ( :
I painted my countertops it turned out grate and I did it to another house and it was amazing
Please please please do an update on your cabinet paint and countertops.
I recently moved, but the cabinets and countertops helped us with selling the house!
3:50 Is there any seem in the corner of the "L" there? They did a good job matching the veins on the front edge with top of the "slab."
Wow! What a fabulous re-do, for a fraction of the price! Great Job!! 👍💯👍
Thanks! I like how it turned out too!
Love your kitchen . How has the wear and tear been ? We have a granite we hate and want to switch. Thank you
We recently moved, but it held up great for selling!
Great job they look amazing!
Thank you!
Great job! They look awesome ☺
Thanks!
just love your kitchen!!!!! I have a friend who got granite and she said she wouldn't pick it again, due to the very hard surface, she has broken so many glasses and plates, just slipping out of her hands. I don't think granite is the way to go for me either!!!!
Thanks! Good to know about the granite! Yeah mine just bounce right off ( :
Looks great! You made a video of you touching up the paint on your dark cabinets after two years, do your white cabinets seem to be doing the same kind of wear and tear? Trying to decide if I should go dark espresso or white! Thanks
I would have went with a greyer color, myself. But it looks nice!
Yeah I wasn't sure just how it would turn out...darker grey would have been nice too I bet. ( :
Great idea!!!
Thanks!
Awesome video!
Thank you guys for the awesome countertops! We LOVE them and can't wait to tackle other countertop replacement projects around our home with your products. ( :
Granit is soooo expensive I got my breakfest bar in it and it's $60 sqfoot and it cost $700 for my small breakfest bar so I painted my big counters lol
LOL that's a good plan!
Did you have to remove everything in the cabinets before install?
Do you have to worry about staining since it's white?
Also, what is the price difference? Real marble, granite or quartz VS marble look laminate?
Had to remove the sink and stove top. No issues with staining so far...all the variation of grey and whites in the print helps hide things, but haven't had to worry about hiding anything yet. I didn't get price estimates of actual marble, just going off what I've read and heard online. Anyone want to share the prices they know of for marble or granite?
Hey Ashley! Thanks for the video. It was very informative. I have a question though. I have tile that has the rounded edge/bull nose for the finishing trim. Since it's curved, how would I apply the adhesive tiles to it....to make it look good? I can attach a picture if needed. Basically, the rounded edge is the trim, and at the top corners, where the tile meets painted wall, it has a rounded corner. Thanks again for the tips!
I would send an email with the pic to smart tiles, they are very helpful and can help you figure out how it can work in your home. ( :
Looks Great! around how much was that?
Nice!
I WAS THINKING IF YOU WOULD PAINT IT AND THAN OVER PAINT WITH SELF LEVELING CLEAR PAINT WOULD GET SMUT TOP...
I like the easy projects one can do thenselves but a lot of these fake solutions cost almost as much as the real deal 😱
Big eye opener to just save for the real thing
very nice
Thanks!
I am considering this counter as well! I really want a rounded/rolled edge but find it hard to tell here.. is this rounded or is there a seam where the rounded front meets the top? Thanks !!
I've recently moved and can't recall. You can kind of see closer in this post: www.ashleysconsciouslife.com/2017/01/how-i-updated-my-backsplash-using-smart.html
A Kansas Citian? I'm sure you said Kansas City lol Oh def subbing
I live near KC! Glad to have you! ( :
Awesome I live in Grandview small world.
That's cool!
We had laminate before and I said no more laminate, we went with quartz instead! Your laminate looks nice but we spent less than what you did with quartz with a similar looking kitchen plus there was extra on the slab that I got a top for my vanity table.
Yeah quartz was a possibility I considered, does have a nice look and feel. Maybe for my next project!
We also handle Quartz Products but for Ashley kitchen it would have cost 2x the price.
We recently priced quartz and the one we liked was $60 sqft installed. For our kitchen, that would be over $5000 vs only $1200 for laminate. We love the big swirls in the quartz design we picked out, so are considering doing it only on our island and laminate on the rest of the kitchen....one that's more solid and doesn't contrast. Anyone heard of this being done successfully?
Did you go with regular laminate or solicor? And what finish and edge did you get? I'm looking into this for mine. And to the people who say It's not like real marble... Duh.
I know right?! Of course it's not marble! lol. Anyways, I just got whatever edge the company that installed it did. I was trying to have it be fancy like what some other laminate ones offer, but they said they would only be able to do that on 3/4 sides or something and one would be flat? So I went with this rounded one, probably has a name- I'll try to look up the name. And I believe it was solicor. ( :
I know this is so gross but when you showed the elephant texture all I could think was that it looked like balls 😅😂😂 but regardless I like the outcome of your counters! Looks really nice, I will be doing the same because marble is not in my price range 😅
LOL that texture was strange in a number of ways! Yep price worked great for me too!
I think if you put epoxy sealant it will give it the shiny marble look. But yes, the look very good
( :
Lovely, but looks nothing like natural marble. I would totally do this in my kitchen.
I agree, not identical to marble, but a nice improvement from what it was. Hope you can give it a try! ( :
How much did it cost for you to change your counter tops? We are looking to do this at my house and we are considering laminate but everyone says granite is better.
The prices are all listed in the video if you're interested.
What paint color is your kitchen walls?
Any updates on how they are holding up?
Zero problems so far (knock on laminate) lol...but seriously they are doing great!
Gorgeous!
Thanks!
it looks amazing but i miss the old cabinet colors lol
lol I don't ( :
I had those very same "elephant skin" counters in my old house. Horrible to keep clean!!!
Oh so glad those are gone...do not miss all those little groves!
Does anyone know anyone who can do this in the Dallas Texas area?
It looks awful where the countertop meets the wall.
Ideally it would have looked more seamless, but that would have involved the company that installed the countertops to tear out the tile backsplash and re-tile it. So since I was going for more of a budget-option, I kept it and just deal with the look. Works for me.
do they outgas?
Nope not in my experience ( :
It looks great! But in my personal opinion granite is worth every penny.
I bet it is! ( :
I regret my granite. Very hard surface for dishes.
But they have no edge
Looks nice but u can tell that's not marble!
Well yeah...
Ashley's Green Life I'm sorry but u said it looks high end😞😞. I didn't want to be rude. just stating the facts.
I think it looks great!
Looks more high end on video or in a picture but in person you can tell these are just painted countertops.
Andry Koumis looks pretty damn good to me.
I feel sorry for whoever buys this house next ... I can't even begin to imagine all the shoddy do-it-yourself projects (gone wrong) using cheap builder's quality materials that have been done in this home ... fake marble ?? umm no thanks
Works for me. ( :
What a dick
laminate look alike marble is very popular. Many new homes are built with similar styles. Real marble is almost never used unless they are looking to spend 20k on countertops.
I'm sure you don't even Owen a home.
