    I returned my Joola Gen 3 because of the complaints from other players. I loved the Gen 3, but I don't want the drama. Now I'm back to searching for a new paddle. 😕

      Screw the judgments, the paddles are appropriate for rec play. Or perhaps, we should all object to the paddles of other players because they are too loud, or provide too much spin for us. Lets all be pickleball snowflakes.

      The only players still using the gen 3 Joola’s are insecure jerks who want every advantage possible and are shameless about it. If I even think for a second I’ve got an unfair advantage, I’m not using that paddle.

    The ball discussion was interesting because PPA sold the ball rights to the highest bidder, Vulcan, even though it was a terrible, unproven ball and detrimental to quality play. Maybe Vulcan 2.0 is somewhat better but $$$ speaks louder than quality, at least pre-Jason.
    Jason, if it turns out that Joola knowingly submitted a different paddle for approval than they sold and gave their pros, should they be banned forever from PPA/MLP? As the old adage goes, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck.
    Hope Jason't plans come to fruition, rooting for him to succeed. Proof is in the pudding.

      There is NO evidence that Joola purposefully did anything intentional to deceive USAP regarding its paddles. Your stated opinion/assumptions are reckless and without merit or evidence, and just another conspiracy theory. Please Google "critical thinking" before you post any more nonsense.

    I agree that we need better testing methodology and better testing standards. However, Jason forgot that pickleball is inherently dangerous. The game encourages people to get to the NVZ lines and bang (at hurry up) on each other until someone misses or fails. That's why I chose to wear an Oakley safety glasses. Personally, I have seen more people twisting (or breaking) their ankles than got hit in the face. Are we going to ban players with weak ankles?

      This is a ridiculous argument. Because there are risks to playing a sport that means we don’t need to worry about any of the risks? It’s completely rational to think there is going to be a limit to how fast paddies should get. It’s clear that many people think the gen 3 Joola passed that limit. Get over it.

    The gloves are off! Proactive vs Reactive regulatory guidelines! Improvisatory practice for an organization that's been around since the 80's is a terrible way to operate. This is such an old way of thinking, which does effect many other industries.

    Does it not look like a terrible move to create a new governing body as soon as the best selling paddle becomes banned? I didn’t see anyone trying to make a new governing body after crbns were banned?
    I wish there could be some honesty, the new governing body was made because usap isn’t allowing joola to make tons of money with hot paddles, it’s as simple as that. I will never respect this new governing body, USAP holds manufacturers accountable and thinks of the amateurs safety first.

    • @LearnBeachVolleyballFast
      @LearnBeachVolleyballFast 25 дней назад

      If I understood this right, the new governing body doesn't want to "reapprove" these banned paddles, just to innovate better and clearer testing methods!

    YES! Thank you Jason for talking about "exit velocity". That is the ultimate test for playability and safety. Or, have the paddle hit the ball at a certain velocity and measure the pounds of pressure the ball then emits on a scale. Glad you are taking the lead on this!

    This gives me some hope in regards to UPA. Jason stated something that I've said ever since I got interested in PB equipment: equipment regulations shouldn't be materials based but performance based. Who cares if a paddle is made out of unobtanium as long as its performance falls within whatever the regulations are.

    No one publicly knows why Joola paddles were continued to be de-listed. It may not be attributed to too much power or pop. It could be grit or an illegal material which would not be dangerous to opponents. People are assuming they are dangerous.

    Any measurement can be manipulated….and when you throw money at it (i.e “influence.” Good luck! Sounds like it just needs to go back to Gen 1 paddles across the board. Like wood bats in MLB. Limit the face materials. Then everyone is on the same playing field. Becomes a game of pure skill again. Longer rallies etc.

      Yes, and lets ban court shoes that weigh less than 20 ounces, and have soles with certain levels of traction, And also lets ban magnesium supplements, sports drinks, compression sleeves. sweatbands, lidocaine patches or other pain relief, etc. Then we will have a "level playing field"!!!

    That’s fine and punishment Andre is completely ridiculous. There’s so many instances that’s happened leading up to this and then you hammer some dude like he’s an NFL or an NBA player on a Pickleball salary it should’ve been maybe $1000 and a tournament suspension , that was completely out of line unless there’s something you’re not telling us.

    I’m a solid 3.5. I’m fairly athletic as I’ve played many sports throughout my life. My PB game centers around getting to the kitchen where my quick reaction and hand to eye coordination shine. All that said, I was never hit so many times as I have been since the Gen 3s hit the courts. Even against the Gearbox Pros, I wasn’t having the same problem.

  • @kimleith1378
    @kimleith1378 24 дня назад

    Just make a MPH or FPS limit of deflection. That will fix this mess. Devise a on site piece of equipment to measure any paddle in question at any time during the match. Been playing 8 yrs and NEVER stepped on the court w/o eye pro. Hold over from racquetball and the shooting range.
    Ball management is a great option as well. More spin, less power is my take.

  • @fabstevesadventures

    Intent HAS to matter here guys. It’s not illegal or against the rules to apply a foreign substance to a training paddle. If he says that this specific paddle was not intentionally sent in for testing then you have to give him the benefit of the doubt because it’s the only fair thing to do AND based on his past history which is squeaky clean! Injustice was definitely served and I put most of the blame here for this horrific punishment on Jason…

    You contradicted yourself. You said the difference here was a manufacturer defect vs a paddle manipulated by the player. Later you said intent doesn’t matter whether the player intended to manipulate the face or someone else. Enforcing a large fine like $50k in this sport and a 6 month ban better understand the players intent in potential cheating. If he did it intentionally the punishment more harsh. If he put his paddle in a dirty bag and had some gunk on the face then it was an honest mistake. Or if someone did it without the players knowledge. Much lighter punishment in those two cases.

      I heard on oneof the other podcasts that supposedly Andre used paddles that had something added to the face that he used only when training with non pros (he would give the “juiced” paddle to the least experienced trainee) to try to level things out. It was supposed to be one of these training paddles that mistakenly was given in for testing. This begs a lot of other questions, but…

      Hard to not believe that The Kitchen is not a publicity pawn for UPA, UPAA. UPA and UPAA are non profit arm of for profit PPA and MLP. The should be a governing body independent and not affiliated to the PPA, MLP, APP or any other league.

    The issue with focusing on regulating paddle technology to cap exit velocity on drives is that even though paddles may be limited to perform at a specific level, a player that has figuratively "hit the gym" can drive a ball 60mph+ using an approved (power) paddle.
    Over here in Hawaii, if you see a jacked Samoan, Tongan, or Hawaiian hit the ball full force, the ball will fly extremely fast.
    The point being, highly athletic players will always have the advantage in a sport, and even though setting a limit on what paddle manufacturing companies can do to a new paddle may reduce the injuries of players, it's in the nature of modern day Pickleball to always have that injury risk with current approved paddles.
    My suggestion is to promote eye wear and body cushioning apparel after cracking down on paddle limits.

    • @DeesBees85
      @DeesBees85 25 дней назад +1

      No one is arguing we can eliminate all risk from pickleball. The point is there is going to be a limit to how fast the ball can spring off a paddle, and it appears we’ve arrived there.
