lol. So I just made a video about this for my patreon because I'm no longer really on twitter beyond logging in to pin things to the top of my profile. Today when I did that I saw there was some fued between you two and it was very confusing to me as someone who isn't on twitter, but is on tiktok and RUclips. Tiktok has been feeding me a lot of Destiny clips and generally they're clips I tend to think have pretty good takes. So my feelings around Destiny have softened from "that's the guy n word debate guy/the guy who only really seems to care about black people as a talking point in an argument he can win" to "hmm, i guess he's thoughtful sometimes". So then when I logged into twitter to see what he said... it sounded absolutely crazy and out of nowhere. Like, every word. "wealthy youtuber" and "thinks white people need to solve their problems" really stood out to me as not true from what I've seen of your content.
Its just interesting seeing both of your content and not even thinking you really interacted a lot at all to seeing that tweet. Logging off really shifts how important these things are in your brain. I think you're right to say "internet brain" because that's how this sounds to me. You're right, what Killer Mike said in that video wasn't anything new. My parents never once had a conversation with me that was like "hey, btw, everthing in the white man's fault". What they DID do is reiterate that society will indeed treat me differently because I'm black; and I denied the fuck out of that until actually very recently. Your point about property value is a great example of that. Doesn't actually matter how nice your house is or whether or not you pull your pants up. In our society, racism means black folks will be seen as lesser and that will impact us in many many many areas. White folks think we're talking about blaming white people for all of our ills, when in reality, it's more like we're talking about their inability to not be insidiously white supremacist.
I am still so annoyed by the sheer existence of this bullshit. Like... why do we need to have a debate between you two? And why would debating someone putting words in your mouth and arguing that you've said things you didn't say be productive in any way? And who's it for? I think you're right about the insecurity of his black audience cuz I can see how they'd need it, but that's only because they're still trying to like him. Like....since pretty dramatically decreasing my internet usage, it's become so clear to me how deeply unserious debate bros are.

Although I agree with most of what you said, I should let you know that Destiny is racist in the sense that he doesn't hate black people, but does think less of them and undermined our struggle and achievements. There have been SOOO many remarks that I had to compartmentalize and then piece together to get a grasp on what he REALLY feels about black people. Now, I'm a bit lazy so I'm gonna post a reddit comment I left in a forum discussing Destiny's behavior: Personally, I think he is and isn't. He's been undermining black struggle for idk how long now, but a good year if not more. He's become really bitter and it shows through the way he responds to anyone with valid criticism against him. He's always given me offbeat vibes because there has been too many times when he's been selectively good and bad faith with people depending on he persons beliefs. And you know what's even more sus? He's been extremely good faith to right-wingers like Lauren Southern and Nick Fuentes and even going out of his way to hangout with them irl. He NEVER has this level of charity for ANYONE left of a liberal. He would make these baseless statements with broad stroaks and DGG would eat it up because they are his sheep and he's their Shepperd. I remember not too long ago when Vegan Gains and Destiny had their annual debate and how bad faith Destiny is when its a topic that left adjacent. He would intentionally misrepresent Vegan Gains and even take him to the most extreme tangents to try and justify eating chicken and waffles. It just seems to me that he is secretly socially conservative because of the people he chooses to be good faith to and the ones he doesn't. It took this dude MONTHS to label NICKOLAS FUENTES an N@ZI n matter how obviously anti-sematic he was, SMH. Not only that, but he said that the holocaust was worse the slavery, which it wasn't just by the sheer number of Africans that been lynched, raped, and beaten and mistreated to death by the white slave masters, but by the sheer amount of death is extremely disrespectful. 1 million Africans died just being transported from Africa to the Americas in one trip, ONE. I can tell he said that because he was trying undermine black struggle and not saying that the holocaust wasn't bad, but worse than over 200 years of chattel slavery? senseless.
Now, the recent beliefs that I think are indicators of why I think he thinks white people are superior to black people is one, when he and Jidion where in a debate panel, I remember Jidion saying that he is a History buff(and he is as he seems to know quite a bit of history) and Destiny asked him if he thought that Ancient Egypt was black--which insinuates that Destiny believes that the reason why ancient Egypt was so advanced was because it was mostly Mediterranean people that built it. Now, there was this other clip he had and unfortunately I don't remember which one, all I remember was that it was around the time were Ukraine vs Russia was a big deal. He told a person he was debating that those that prevail in war don't change history to make them look better or to take credit for things they didn't do because "I talked to historians about it and they say that history is never rewritten, falsified, or biased" which is like going to Ted Bundy and asking him if he loved women and believing him. I would also add that his beef with Kai Cenat and YourRage is pretty self-explanatory. But yeah, Destiny doesn't hate black people, but he does perceive us as inferior to whites, smh.

I don't use any social media and basically stick to RUclips as casual background entertainment while doing chores so it's insane to me to see how different people seem to be on other platforms. Had the same experience with the RUclips algorithm showing me destiny clips of him seeming alright to his wildly fucked up characterization of FD on Twitter. Maybe I am ignorant to how important Twitter is to content creators needing to promote themselves and be accessible to viewers- but people should delete it. It really seems to bring out the worst in people.

When someone says “It’s not that deep,” all that tells me is they’re not smart/open-minded enough to have that conversation and thus they should stfu and get out of the way.

    This was perfect. THANK YOU.
I'm not American, so it took me awhile to fall down the debate-bro rabbit hole, but a few years ago I listened to a podcast about the alt-right and the last episode or so addressed deradicalization. They mentioned Contrapoints, whom I already knew, and they also mentioned Destiny. I thought, "Hmm, that's interesting, let's see this man's content. It must be good."
Oh my god, it's hard to describe my disappointment. At first, it was interesting and I appreciated a left-leaning creator who could reach these insular fascist circles with good rhetoric. I saw some of his classic debates against white supremacists, and it seemed positive overall. That impression lasted for about five days, 'cause the following week he was talking about shooting down protesters.
That man has politics as a sport. As FD said: kayfabe.A sophist if you will. The consequences of his words and actions? Opinions for him are an aesthetic choice that fits his style.
This might be a bit off topic, but Tolstoi with his acid humor has a character in Anna Karenina that reminds me of him: Oblonsky - the cheating husband and Anna's brother. "Oblonsky never chose his tendencies and opinions any more than he chose the style of his hat or coat. He always wore those which happened to be in fashion. Moving in a certain circle where a desire for some form of mental activity was part of maturity, he was obliged to hold views in the same way he was obliged to wear a hat. If he had a reason for preferring Liberalism to the Conservatism of many in his set, it was not that he considered the liberal outlook more rational but because it corresponded better with his mode of life… Liberalism had become a habit with Oblonsky and he enjoyed his newspaper, as he did his after-dinner cigar, for the slight haze it produced in his brain."
The short time I followed Destiny's content, I was confused by the apparent contradictions, but Nebraska Steve has liberalism as a style and as a habit. He can switch to Conservatism if the hat fits him better. It's that simple. Once I realized this, everything made sense.
I'll give just one example. What did he think about veganism a few years back? Bullshit. You can kill and eat your dog for all he cares. Of course, he completely disregards the moral status of animals. If he didn't - like most of us - he'd either have to accept the contradictions of his values and actions as a liberal who favors individual actions; or a mixture of his contradictions and the structural problems with the animal industry; or maybe he'd have to radically change his consuming habits. Disregarding animals' rights fits his style better. It's more comfortable, and that way he can remain "coherent." A great hat. It's that simple.

I agree with some of your criticism but, do you expect to agree with everything he says? Do you expect him to only be a liberal and say liberal things? He a person and that would seem fake, at least to me. There are a lot of creators I like but, I can't think of any that I always agree with.

    • @marinareis3606
      @marinareis3606 Год назад +38

      @Tom Tom
      Certainly not.
I'm giving an example as someone who hasn't followed the man for years and is trying to illustrate how they interpret his political and (-lack of-) ethical views. It's my impression, not a hard fact, but during the short period I watched Destiny's content, something bothered me, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
Thinking back on it, I now see it as a byproduct of turning politics into a sport. If you debate politics professionally as a sport and do it every other Tuesday, rather than deepening the discussions and allowing yourself to have complex and independent views on different matters, your main incentive is entertaining and winning in the eyes of the public. That's how you keep business going.
Winning requires being liberal when it fits you and whatever else when it fits you. That's not coherence, that's convenience. Destiny can defend left-leaning policy, black lives, and poor people, and in the next breath talk about shooting down protesters. Someone said in a comment above he spoke against Trump's wall but said military intervention in Mexico would be a good option
(a scary option if you're not american and this is the type of liberals we can find in the US, but I digress).
These are not just disagreements with liberal abstract views on state intervention and human rights: it's a complete denial of it. It goes beyond independence of thought.
(Well... we could make the argument that liberalism not as an abstraction but as a movement often stood for property and economic interests above human life in history, so maybe I'm wrong and he's a true liberal, but I digress again)
The veganism thing is just an example of how I think his thought process works. Am I right? Who knows. He might be a more complex individual than I give him credit for, because from where I'm standing it looks as simple as I described.
The thing is I had good expectations of someone who was known for deradicalizing the alt-right. Maybe his content started in a healthier way, but what I found was performance of a debate aesthetic that stands on drama and whatever else works to keep the audience engaged. Whatever hat fits.
We can see it with how he provoked FD. His words had no substance, were straight up respectful, they didn't even make logical sense, but it was very convenient for fresh content.

Shouldnt a moral system aim to be coherent ? You cant tell someone their moral system is wrong because it contradicts with how "most people" view animal welfare. Thats just a weak ad populum, especially when he himself points out how his ethics would make most people uncomfortable.

I often talk to people (mostly black and Latino) about living below your means, saving, investing, and education. When I’m talking with individuals this is the message I preach. But I know and have known for a long time this is not enough to make a systemic and cultural change. I vote for as many socialist policies as I can. Support candidates and causes that align with those ideals because I believe that is the only viable path for minorities and the working class.
But of course John from the block doesn’t always want or need to hear all that. He just needs to know how to work within the current system. Maybe he just wants to know what an HSA is or where to get decent health insurance. Language barriers. I grew to kind of hate the personal finance and self help industry. I still mostly do lol. Because at best they are often neglectful of the unique circumstances of minorities. Don’t get me started in Dave Ramsey. And at worst, they’re preying on the disadvantage.
Ultimately I came to the realization that people really need to maximize their wealth especially minorities if they’re even going to have a shot in this system. I’ll use my finance background and gears of research to help people now. But I’m often rubbing shoulders with people who share many of my beliefs about money management and who I know for a fact have some really messed up views on labor and politics etc. So I kind of get a little nauseous when I sound like them lol. I have to get myself back in the mind of a capitalist (without sacrificing my values). Because it’s kind of necessary. @@0_P.E. I think with a LOT of them, while they do seem to preach the “rising tides lifts all ships”, which from their perspective would make sense, glosses over the all ready deep discrepancies between black and brown vs white economics. If, you know, as I think even Kulinski has referenced, it’s true that for every dollar that a white person is valued at, a black person is only valued at $0.10 cents, then even tho implementing more social policies will help, it still won’t close that gap. We’ll all have access to healthcare for example, which is great, but there will still be inherent class issues. To go a step further into healthcare (just the easiest issue to use as example) even when black people DO have access to healthcare our health outcomes are significantly worse than that of whites. These gaps would still exist even by removing the barriers to access because the issue is with the institutions themselves. Just look at public schools as another example. Schools in suburban white neighborhoods are far better than those in urban neighborhoods. Even though its a social program.
So while I do agree with much of what left tube espouses, their rhetoric is coming from a place of, let’s be honest, privilege. Kulinski, Ball, Seder…all these people come from positions of relative comfort. Which is why, while they do have some good commentary, you’ll rarely (if ever) see them on ground and actually getting involved in the activism necessary to implement the changes they so readily support. Why? Because they’re good. Which makes them far removed from the working class, and infinitely further away from the black and brown working class. Now, again, I absolutely agree with their analysis of corporate greed, govt. corruption, and our collapsing media/journalistic space so I still appreciate them for that. But I had to come to the realization that what they promote, mainly change through the electoral process will never work for black and brown people because that solution is not urgent enough. They claim to be far left, and maybe so in their ideas, but their solutions, again slow change through electoral processes and their avoidance of radical action seems a bit tone deaf when the bodies are literally piling up in urban communities due to decades of neglect.

Excellent live bro! Destiny is racist point blank and the period! This is the same man that was banned off of Twitch because of controversial comments that he made about black people. I remember when Destiny made comments about Kai Cenat and IshowSpeed who are two black twitch streamers and how he made a generalization that black twitch streamers content have no substances and minimalized their work by saying all they do is just scream and yell into the camera. Secondly, Destiny bringing a racist onto his platform just to combat his talking points is racist within it's self because my question would be what was it for, and what did you gain out of that. this whole situation is giving "White Savior" you platform a racist to debunk his talking points not understanding that you gave this man access to harm millions of black people by spewing harmful and stereotypical rhetoric it sounds like Destiny just did that in order to proposition himself as an ally when in reality he does not care about the plights of black people. Next, The whole situation between Destiny and FD Signifier was white supremacy because why would you as a whole white man interject into black people's business just to give this blanket statement that was rooted in "Pull yourself up from the bootstraps" which is a racist dog whistle that white people do all the time in order to make black peoples failures their own fault and leaving out the systemic obstacles put in place that keep black people in poverty. In order for systematic racism to sustain itself it has to allow people to pass through in order to establish this false sense of hope that you as a black person can degree, invest, or buy your way out of oppression and that's not how that works and it leaves out a key component that in order for black people to become free this country would have to undergo a significant socioeconomic change black people cannot do this by themselves they need help from everyone, what was also interesting was that Destiny came at FD Signifier when the mans comment was actually pointing out the issues in Killer Mike's comments that was rooted in conservative and racist rhetoric. Killer Mike is so anti black this man literally met and cosigns Brian Kemp a racist politician who is actively working to suppress black people's votes, Killer Mike even made anti black comments about black women calling them "Bad Wig Mafia" which is not only anti black, but disgusting. I always say who you align with is your politic Destiny been racist and Aba been anti black because who would make a joke about donating to Atlanta Police Department when we know that the institution of policing is a contributor and indoctrinator of racism and oppression. Even the term "Good Cops" does not work because either you get killed off or you become swallowed up by the system. How many times of we seen black cops treat their own people bad! (Paying money to the police department was a shit post [really fucking dumb imo] in response to this shit post; telling individuals how a system is screwing them over with no political action plan is NOT activism nor advice it's just a circle jerk; We are individuals and should be given individual advice not advice about the system. This is by no means to say systemic racism is not important for all Americans [especially black Americans] to know and understand. I would say it's pivotal especially when trying to give advice. Destiny and F.D are correct they are just too stupid and prideful to understand that.
You're completely missing the point of why he did that. The fact that F.D is basically trying to have Destiny do the Booker T. Washington of "prove you aren't a racist by capitulating to my demands" is a shit post by F.D. This man is in his 30's saying he will only talk to him if he donates 50k and that it won't be a conversation because they aren't "equals" in his mind. Donating 10k to the police department was more of F*ck you to F.D not an actual political opinion. I think you and F.D are forgetting the part where TALKING on the internet is NOT political action. Telling black Americans that they are screwed because of systemic racism isn't POLITICAL ACTION. F.D has even stated this in his videos but since he is a video essayist and not an orator, he falls back on this backwards worldview of how one person must be a thing because they have nuance on a topic that seemingly goes against what I believe to be correct. The thing is F.D and Destiny are both right here they are just both too stupid to see it: It is ESSENTIAL, and I mean ESSENTIAL for black Americans to know and understand systemic racism, but when giving individual advice there is no magic bullet. Systemic issues need to be dealt with by the people towards the system, not Killah telling someone online that you can't get ahead because of systemic racism. That's a foolish thing to say. Just because there are attitudes and perceptions in place does not mean that one should not try at all. We live in an environment where don't personally interact with a system every single day directly. So, telling someone about an issue that has to be systemically changed does not change their current situation. If I talk to a homeless person and say, "damn if only we had systems in place to help with home displacement and a better mental/healthcare system you wouldn't have to be homeless." fixes nothing about his station NOR the system it's just circle jerking even though what I am saying is true. It's way more nuanced than that at the INDIVIDUAL level. If it was systematic racism that is an entirely different argument. You all should understand that systemic racism can still perpetuate even if there is NO racist actors in play. This is the main issue why Destiny does not take F.D or a lot of Corn/Breadtube seriously. The level of smarmy smugness F.D displays here is disheartening. I am not here to say what Destiny did was good, it was stupid brain dead shit, but it's not his obligation to be kind to F.D or his movement when F.D literally spent this entire video saying how he has 0 respect for Destiny even though he does canvasing, attacks the right, and is "probably not racist" but says he doesn't care about causes he argues even though he has donated and done actual real world activism out of his own pocket.

That Greenwood thing truly upset me. Hubs and I thought we'd have the opportunity to move our business to them and to feed back into an economical model designed to help make the American Black community whole. I was so disappointed to learn that it's not even a Black-owned bank.

I found Destiny through a conversation he had with Brittany Simon. Since then I’ve watched countless hours of his debates and drama. I find the conversations to be pretty entertaining. He has a lot of bad takes, but also a lot of good ones. And the way he rationalizes is interesting. I also just like seeing people argue about ideas.
I think he has a big ego and you are 100% right about the way he antagonizes people to fight with him because that’s the entertainment the audience is looking for. It’s very unserious.
I don’t think you should debate him at all. The first time I heard him mention you I was confused and honestly offended because you are one of my favs. The next time I heard it I could tell he was just trying to lure you into the battle arena. I’m glad you didn’t fall for it.

Socially he is center left but economically he is a neo-liberal. Honestly its easier to look at him as anti-left. He yells at conservatives and the right a lot, but he is far more charitable to them than he is for the left because there are more opportunities to doing this.

@@andersonboyer6886 Given how Mike employs revolutionary “Kill Your Masters” aesthetics on his records, then turns around and sells conservative bootstraps “individual fiscal responsibility” cliches, I’d say the critique is warranted.
FD never says “Don’t do what’s in your power to better your situation” or “There’s nothing you can do to better your situation because of systemic racism.” He’s saying there’s only so far Killer Mike’s “pull up your pants and buy into the system” advice can take you before you hit a ceiling that’s been decided for you by white supremacy. Killer Mike’s bootstraps advice isn’t the solution to greater socioeconomic change in America.
So yes, it’s okay for FD to do well under capitalism and still call for a better system. And it’s okay for him to criticize people like Landlord Mike who act like Black folks just need to do well under capitalism and then inequality will be fixed. Capitalism will always need poor, exploited people in order to exist.

Don’t forget to protect your peace. It’s good that you won’t wade into a debate without getting some money for a good cause, but still, continue monitoring how much energy you give to people who aren’t currently edifying your life in any meaningful way.
While it’s obvious that many fans from many camps, including your own, want to see you debate folks like Destiny, I know I’d much rather catch you on stream with folks like Foreign, Bellamy, Finn, Aranock, Andrewism, and others, talking about things of substance and cutting up over ridiculous things like Foreign’s feet or Bellamy having no chill in the live stream moderation. Seeing people who, presumably, like each other and making content with each other not only entertains me while educating me, but it also feeds my soul, not my vices.

They like the pro wrestling elements and all the talk and maybe even want to entertain the idea their guy could beat someone who really been in the trenches under specific and impractical circumstances but in the back of their minds know how much it’d take to make it happen and how it won’t end well because their guy knows nothing or not nearly enough for the task at hand . As much as it pains me to say this (because I love cm punk) destiny debating with people who actually do black issues is like would end like CM punk in the ufc.
