    Well what a transformation Alex. When you first showed the PE and Resin upgrades I had my doubts as to how much better they would make the Victory, but now seeing the cabin windows with PE inserts and the much more detailed Resin hull ladder with Admirals door, I am so impressed. Of course now I must get these aftermarket parts for my kit. See what you did?

    Using a Rotary multi tool for modeling completely reinvigorated my interest in the hobby as up until I got one I was unsatisfied with my results on the fit and finish of things as I never had the patients to hand trim, sand, cut, smooth with files blades and paper. The speed and ease a multi tool incorporates into quality results got me back into modeling

    Another fantastic instalment Alex, thank you.
    I'm not sure if this is correct, because I believe there's still some debate amongst historians, but the inner sides of the hull, between decks, was painted red to hide any blood splashed on it during battle, so as not to demoralise the crew. Having said that, I've visited HMS Victory quite a few times and the bulkheads on the gundecks were painted white.

    • @petes8746
      @petes8746 4 года назад

      To add a further point to the above comment, HMS Victory is currently undergoing extensive re-preservation and during this her current 1925 paint scheme has been found to be incorrect for her time during the Battle of Trafalgar. The 'orangey' Buff paint on the hull banding is too 'orangey' and she is currently being repainted in much more muted ochre/buff colour bands. As Robert Mazur pointed out below an excellent reference video for this is 'HMS Victory in her True Colours':

    Hi, Alex. I had the pleasure of visiting HMS Victory at the Portsmouth Dockyards back in 2019. Victory looks like she could cast off her lines and set sail at a moment's notice! She has been incredibly maintained/preserved and is in absolutely pristine condition from stem to stern. As displayed, the interior color of the gunwales on the quarter deck is the ochre you have used on your gun carriages. On the lower gun decks, the interior walls are white with red trim on the inside surfaces surrounding each gun port. As for the guns themselves, the wheels are unfinished wood with a hub painted the same color as the carriage. There are some smaller guns (carronades) where the wheels are painted black. I cannot speak for the historical accuracy but it certainly appears that no detail has been spared to display Victory as she appeared around the time frame of the Battle of Trafalgar. I trust the Royal Navy's archives have been consulted to assure accuracy down to the last detail. I did an audio tour of the ship. There was no in person guide to answer specific questions of interest to us modelers. Keep up the good work with your Victory build. I am enjoying every minute of it. HAPPY NEW YEAR.

    Hi, so there's a lot of conflicting information about the colour of the internal gun deck walls. In summary, current understanding is that Victory had the red paint in her early life, but this was changed sometime between 1803 and late 1805 to whitewash and yellow ochre colours, which are the ones she's currently displaying in Portsmouth. The decks themselves were natural wood colour, unpainted. It's a difficult choice though as almost all models made over the past 100 plus years have the red paint, so that's the colour most people associate with her, even if we know today whitewash and ochre is more historically accurate. Personally, I'd go with white.

    Awesome job! But, you need to be careful... resin and sharp things can be dangerous.

  • @BrokenIET
    @BrokenIET 4 года назад

    As said on previous video, I disagree with the red colour, I saw the HMS Victory not long ago, and it was unpainted, or an off-white, except Captain Hardy, and Nelsons cabins which are a blue colour, and the below the lower gun deck was white.

  • @richardfarabaugh7604
    @richardfarabaugh7604 4 года назад

    So what about the relatively recent discovery that the yellow ochre on the hull isn’t historically accurate. They discovered it’s more of a pinkish type of color, which they are currently repainting the real Victory to match. Decisions decisions.

    Awesome build, still having fun with my HMS Victory Revell 1:225.
    I wished to ask you, I plan on buying some equipment and so far I have:
    - Airbrush
    - Brushes
    - Tweezers
    - Sanding paper
    - Pliers
    - Revell needle glue
    - Tube glue
    - Sanding sticks
    I think those are all, and I'm planning to buy "brush" glue, and a hand drill. What else do you suggest I get? And any tips on rigging?
