Greetings, AC Family! Today's episode was another dream collab for me for the holidays! @Serpadesign is the vivarium master! So how did I do? Do you like how my terrarium turned out? Hope you remember to LIKE, Comment, SHARE, and SUBSCRIBE to my channel if you enjoyed this video. Also if you'd like to put in a bid for this terrarium don't forget to email me at info@antscanada.com Also, don't forget to watch my terrarium challenge for Serpadesign on his channel: ruclips.net/video/9Ukg5_qou1M/видео.html
It was like watching you build a Ship in a Bottle. That was so cool man! Maybe on a next one you can make a bottle terrarium with a ship in it for your Ghost Ants? That would be hella cool
Yes! You did an awesome job! I knew that working in something like this would be awesome. Doable, but definitely far enough away from your norm that it would be the perfect challenge. Can't wait to see you work more in this style. Thanks again for linking up with me to collab as well. It's ANT LOVE and MOSS LOVE FOREVER! 🌿🐜
I have a serious question. All those closed and open terrariums (world's). How do you prevent mould? I mean there are often humid areas in the terrariums included, for example if I water my room plants to often the surface will be humid/wet for a couple days or weeks and mould will start to grow on the surface of the soil. So how to pretend at a plant is easy, drainage + let the surface dry out between the watering process. But how in the hell you solve or don't get this mould problem in always moist terrariums? Please help me to figure it out. Thanks. o/
My favorite part is the path. It draws your eyes to a center point to begin exploring and discovering everything in the amazing little world you created. It is absolutely gorgeous.
Me and my girlfriend watch your channel and we both agree that the coolest thing in that terrarium is the path way! Such a cool idea for the ants, it tied the whole thing together with color contrast, and you were so inventive about how you placed it in the bottle!
Hey AntsCanada, Ants are the main focus of this channel but termites and other creatures have been featured on the channel. What I really love is the eusocial part of these creatures on your show, and I noticed that none of them are marine animals, so I googled and now I am very curious on how this would work but mabye you could try getting a colony of Synalpheus regalis, they are a eusocial shrimp that can have up to 300 in a colony with one queen. I don't know if this is possible or not but if you could do it that would be awesome.
I love doing sealed terrariums from recycled containers like large pretzel or cheeseball jars, old cookie jars etc. I don't buy plants either. I just harvest moss, grass and other plants from my apartment area. It's a really fun and cheap hobby that let's me green up my personal space while being green.
Now, I want to try it with the Hawaiian Punch jugs that we often get that I usually fill up with water and store in case of blackouts. This sounds like a nice alternative to having flowerpots and vases that can easily make a bad mess when they turn over.
@Katherine GrebencThis got long so TLDR SherpaDesign has some tutorials. Take any clear see through container that has a lid. (Juice bottles, pasta sauce jars, snack jars, empty candles, etc) Put a 1 inch layer of small pebbles or sand as the bottom. This prevents root rot and helps the water cycle. Take a walk around your area to collect soil, moss, pretty rocks, sticks/bark and small plants/weeds. Don't worry if you have some insects in there. They'll help keep it clean. (This can be skipped but it helps fertilize and reduce compaction.) Mix some dirt from outside with compost or potting mix. Some charcoal or activated carbon helps keep it fresh but not needed. Pour the dirt into the container to create a landscape you like. Arrange the larger hard objects to create a pleasing shape. Plants go in next, then moss. Add a few accent pieces in places to spruce it up. Wipe the walls with a paper towel or cloth so sunlight can get through easily. Lightly Water the soil (no water should be in the bottom.) Close it up and put it in a place that gets decent light. You might see mold for the first week or so. The microfauna and insects should clean it up. If it persists, you didn't get enough cleaners in the soil mix and might have to remake it with more bioactive soil. If you have any questions, let me know.
For next time be sure that you've cleaned inner side of jar with microfiber cloth as Tanner. This will give terrarium more sunlight and us better view. Great job. I would add ants to my terrarium if I had a colony or at least a queen and a few workers)
I like the fact that this whole enclosure alone with the sphere on the TOP will be easy for the new owner to keep as he/she don’t have to worry about watering the plants and accidentally drowning the ants and he/she don’t have to worry about air problems too. Wish the new owner of this spectacular enclosure to have a good time with it
My most favorite things about this Glas-Bottle-Terrarium are, that you AC and Tanner from Serpadesign work together and that you set it up as a Charity-Auktion. Since a couple of months I found Tanner with his "Eternal Terrariums". As a frequent viewer of AntsCanada I fast developed the idea of making a "Eternal Formicarium". I'm checking out and am testing how it must be build, that Ants can live in it since then. Now I'm soo happy and delighted that my idea in some kind of way made it way through to you both and that you realised what I was thinking about. Thank you both very much for that!
I love how this was a lesson on how experts can make something look effortless. The entire process was a learning and, in my case humbling, experience to understand the craft. I also love how each creature in the little environment help eachother in the great circle of life.
The trail which highlights their movement due to its lighter color. Also the wooden ball is truly a superior finishing choice which ties everything together. Masterpiece.
Hey man been following you before 200,000 subs and took a massive break and kept coming back along the way checking in on you at every milestone and I don’t care what other people say buy you always make the videos entertaining and interesting as well as factual. Keep it up man ;)
AntsCanada as picturesque as that looks, in the summer could the ants overheat because their is no ventilation and the glass magnifies the heat form the sun?
I disagree I think there would be a way to train the ants and arachnids. Mainly using a food source in some way. I'm no expert and I'm pretty sure it would be hard to do but I don't think it's impossible.
Try Me arachnids have been trained before, much like bees have. Literally, watch the movie arachnophobia.. a lot of those spiders are real live spiders that a trainer trained to emerge or move when directed! It’s crazy.. that movie and that fun fact has always haunted me 😂
Osmosis Jones ants would be a tough one because they use complicated means of communication. Ants use a lot of chemical communication and we haven’t cracked there chemical codes yet.. I don’t think lol
My favorite part is by far the Trap Jaw Ants! Also, the white sand path really brings out the darker colors around the glass. I also admire the little hints of rocks hidden around each corner!! You are inspiring me to start something like this. It shows that even the smallest of spaces can be home to Ants but also portable, decorative & full of life! Ant Love ♥️
What a wonderful design! I have become an avid lover of keeping plants recently (with a Juniper Bonsai, Red-Headed Irishman cactus, and a small Money Tree gracing the top of my bookshelf in my apartment bedroom) and with this video I have happily become subscribed to SerpaDesign. I have no doubt that I will acquire all sorts of ideas for terrariums from him, and hope to one day have parts of my home dedicated to potted plants, terrariums, and ant colonies. Regarding you AC weekly question, my favorite part about your terrarium was the white, rocky path you made. It does a great job of making the ants who walk across it pop out to the naked eye.
My favorite thing is the way the plants are organized. They are organized in a way that takes up the right amount of space for the ants to thrive, while also making the terrarium look like an island paradise.
You did great! How about you try to make an ant farm with tubes connecting the fish to other aquariums? I thought about how to do it also! You can make a tunnel by cutting a hole and using varies glass bottles with holes connecting to each other to the next aquarium/ vivarium
I feel like the opening on the top was a bit large compared to the other guy but then again I don’t think he made it suitable for ants to live in but you did very good and infinitely better than what most people could do
Happy you could do something with Tanner! He and his channel are so chill, and really got me interested in terrariums. :) Yours came out well, and I love the idea of an auction for charity! Cheers~
He does! He pre-crushes all of his feeder insects. It prevents them from suffering and also keeps the ants from getting hurt trying to kill their food :)
