Great tutorial! One of the better tutorials with fingering for beginners like myself. If you have time do you think you could please put up a tutorial on how to play Downpour by Brandi as well? Haven't found that anywhere. Thanks!
Thanks for this tutorial it really helped. Note: Section starting at 3:15 is a bit confusing though as she plays it and describes it 2 or 3 different ways.
Thank you Rachel for this most excellent tutorial on one of my favorite Brandi songs. Even as a beginner this is a possibility for me. I appreciate you naming notes along with the chord shapes. Having played piano for many years it helps me correlate the keyboard to the strings...if that makes sense. Thanks!!
Rachel, you're the best! Thank you! I got to try it! I was following you since your cover for this song. I love it! Please cover more Brandi's songs!! One of my favs is I Will.

solid. I cant do it the way Brandi does it.. she does that same part with just her thumb and index finger. best I can tell she flicks down with the back of her nail for the d string and back up for the g string.
Brandi Carlile has been an ABSOLUTE FAV of mine since...idk...2008? Began singing and playing in 2005 and I feel like Brandi helped me, especially vocally...play a lot of her AMAZING songs. This is probably a top 3 of her's for me. It's one of best ones to play and sing. Along with "I Will"...which is probably a top 2 song. BUT while A LOT of the version of this song that I learned is very similar...there a some HUGE differences. Namely the timing and amount of the C chord hammer ons in the intro. I've heard the difference at times when I hear the actual song and I'm like...I want to play it that way LOL. Also, a big difference is in the chorus, I DONT SLIDE UP TO THE D SHAPE!! I just play the F#/D...and I play a Bminor bar instead of the B7...and I DO NOT use the Emajor AT ALL. Also, I've never done the walk up on the A string, after the G hammer on...going into the 2nd verse and choruses. Also, at the A string walk down C, B, Em, "and I said I would too" I play Am instead of Em! XD you must be like...wtf song are you playing with all these differences!? Lol it all sounds good and right just not EXACT I guess. And its missing a few flairs. It's like how you play AND sing something for so long that you don't realize the changes...and in melody too. Very slight changes. Well, I have been working on these new changes to turn it so much more like the original and I'm very excited...so far it's simple fixes, except for the correct intro hammer ons. THAT TOOK SOME REPETITION to get. BUT anyway, thank you for this vid! So much! And thank you for reading this super long detailed and ranting comment if you do lol. I'm just blown away, like omg how didn't I know all this? But also EXCITED 😁
Can you upload just a play full play threw to watch for timing and things like that, I wanted to learn this full peace but now one has the full timing to the song uploaded

Love the song. And I love your version so much! Do you a have a tabbed copy of this on the web? Thank you
Is the tab written down anywhere? Some tabs are available online but it's all slightly different than yours, and you're is great :D
Excellent tutorial! Thank you for sharing your talent with us! ❤ I've been searching for a tutorial for this song for a while!
It's actually a fuller picking version--so well done. I notice that Brandi only uses two fingers--thumb and pointer.
She uses her thumb to alternate the 2 lowest notes.
You do such a great job explaining. Would you be able to do a video of brandi’s song most of all?

Thanks! ;) you're the best!
Anytime! Hope it helps
Thank you so much! I've been wanting to learn more of her songs! Do you take more requests? ;)
No problem! And yes I'd take more requests.
Sweet. I'd say anything by The Avett Brothers! :)
Thanks for the vid
could you do a tutorial on brandi's song called "Have you ever" still haven't found a tutorial on it!
Can you show how to play I Will by Brandi Carlile?
Is there any way you could record an acoustic instrumental version of the entire song?
hannah Dellinger I won't have time to do that, but have you watched my cover? It has vocals too but the full song is there!
