The total number of active military personnel of the Italian army is 170,000. The Italian Armed Forces are the 9th in the world in terms of military budget and expenditures.
l'Italia ha una eccellente Industria di armi che esporta in tutto il mondo soprattutto nel campo aeronautico e navale. L'Italia non ha una politica aggressiva per cui il suo esercito riflette questa tendenza che non è guerrafondaia.
Bravo! Ed’e capace a sviluppare l’atomica.
Questo è quello che fa vedere ma in realtà è sviluppata per essere offensiva questo non vuol dire che provoca la guerra ma ha capacità di portare la guerra in casa di altri e da chi ci minaccia .
Ti faccio un esempio se il Perù dichiara guerra all'Italia non ha un esercito offensivo per mancanza di mezzi e strutture da arrivare ad attaccare l'Italia , mentre l'Italia c'è li ha può benissimo andare là e fare la guerra in casa del Perù
Esiste solo un (serio) modo per NON essere "guerrafondai" - ed è quello di essere FORTI (MILITARMENTE!). La democrazia non è una cosa che "sta su da sola" - la devi proteggere e curare, e questo ha sempre un prezzo da pagare. D'altronde dovreste saperlo Voi Italiani - la prima vera e grande democrazia (seppur oligarchica) - era quella dell'Impero Romano, ed ai tempi del suo "zenit" i cosiddetti "aristocratici" non stavano al potere perché erano "ricchi", ma perché SAPEVANO MORIRE PER LA PATRIA. Le "Guerre Puniche" ne sono testimonianza. Qualsiasi il tuo mondo, la tua lingua, la tua Cultura - tutt'oggi - se vuoi che essa sopravviva e prosperi - devi essere cosciente che la libertà ha un prezzo ...e CHE VALE LA PENA DI PAGARLO.
...e questo te lo dice uno che è nato sotto il comunismo in Polonia e quando aveva (...avevo! ) sei anni dovevo guardare i minatori di carbone massacrati a colpi di armi automatiche nella mia città natale di Katowice - il tutto perché decisero di andare in sciopero, non potendo più sopportare la MISERIA che li circondava. Hai mai visto gente innocente massacrata e schiacciata da blindati della polizia paramilitare comunista per le strade, durante l legge arziale di jaruzelski - ti assicuro che coloro che coloro che parlano di "comunismo" iItalia NON SANNO UN BEATO C**O di cosa stanno parlando. Da parte nostra non sopporteremo mai più un solo giorno di russificazione forzata (sia da parte di putin e dei suoi, sia da parte di chiunque altro regime al Cremlino) ...MA!...non sopportiamo nemmeno le continue intromissioni dei Tedeschi nella nostra vita politica e culturale sotto "l'egida" della cosiddetta "europa unita". Ho visto com'é decaduta e si è impoverita l'Italia, dopo essere passata all'euro (che non è altro poi che il vecchio "Reichsmark" tedesco, con un nuovo nome). Non faremo lo stesso errore.
PS. Quello che voglio dire,è che è facile parlare di "pacifismo" e di non "essere guerrafondai" ... ma quando hai un regime come quello di putin o del suo pupazzo lukashenko subito dietro casa... DEVI essere PRONTO - NON "guerrafondaio" ma PRONTO e FORTE, perché la FORZA è l'unica cosa che quel "vicino di casa" capisce - l'unica lingua che parla è quella - quindi quando dici "NOI NON SIAMO GUERRAFONDAI" - PURTROPPO - ci sono alcuni che invece di vedere le tue buone intenzioni - PENSANO SOLO CHE STAI AMMETTENDO "DEBOLEZZA".
...e (contemporaneamente!) la Germania vuole essere EGEMONE nella UE - ed un'Italia con industria all'avanguardia come negli anni 70 - 90 non gli andava a genio - per loro eravate CONCORRENZA! - non fateVi illusioni - IDEM - non vogliono una Polonia troppo forte! Con la Francia ed il Regno Unito erano costretti ad essere "inclusivi" e TRATTARE - tutti gli altri - per loro - sono solo "pedine".
...si è visto del resto come al Regno Unito la cosa non è piaciuta...

Le relazioni internazionali sono, come insegna la storia della geopolitica umana, uno "stato di natura", e come tale rispondono al principio del "più forte mangia il più debole" data la intrinseca limitatezza delle risorse. Questo é un fatto ineludibile, che piaccia o non piaccia. Uno strumento militare forte, potente e credibile é la garanzia NUMERO UNO della libertà di ogni singolo paese.

I mean Italy is very top notch, current the best ally of the US, involved in over 20 mission abroad, some missions are carried out with US special forces! And I compared with other countries, I mean they are replacing Tornado planes or Meastrale frigates, which in another country like Türkiye would still remain in service for another 20 years!

By the way, Italy makes more GDP than Russia. Their military is a fairly modern device limited in size just because of a super pacifist constitution. Yet, 2 air carriers, 12 misdile lsunching modern frigates, over 200 attack warplanes, a submarine fleet...
More overall power than Germany, a larger standing army than the UK.
Not a superpower, but nothing you would fuck with: a Nato level, integrated, well trained, well equipped, respectable force.

Semplicemente preferisce produrre per terzi più che per se stessa. Se l'Italia volesse la sua industria sarebbe capace di modernizzare e far crescere i mezzi a disposizione, sarebbero poche le strumentazioni che dovrebbe prendere al di fuori dei confini nazionali. I problemi maggiori l'approvvigionamento di quei materiali utili alla costruzione di chip e micro-chip che un moderno esercito non può fare a meno.

That "Ariete" needs serious upgrading, if the Italian Army wants it just to SURVIVE a modern battlefield. Don't get me wrong - Italians have EXCELLENT gear. Many household names on the global scale are Italian - "Leonardo" - "Oto Melara" - "Iveco (Def.Sys.)" - "Benelli" and probably most famous of all - "Beretta" - a unique company that started producing weaponry around the late 1400's and - up to this very day - is held within one family - BASICALLY! - the oldest "industrial aristocracy" in the world. That said! ...the Italians fell into the same mental trap that all the West fell into, after the 90's - they thought a modern and at the same time - full-fledged WAR would never broke out in Europe. MOREOVER - their political estabilishment and successive governments were WEAK. It has been like that since the late 80's and to have a STRONG ARMY you need planning for the long-run. Having a politically volatile environment at the heart of your Government does not help long-term planning. However when they want to, they can produce truly excellent war-"hardware", although they were much more powerful in the 70's and 80's than today. Let's hope they will reverse the trend for their own sake. Forza Italia! ;)
Our power is in the Navy and Airforce
In modern battlefields (fast pace battlefields) the MBT becomed obsolete. Italy understood this at first and they developed the Centauro B1 (and now the Centauro 2) AFV reconnaissance veichle and tank destroyer.
The Pentagon, having seen how the Centauro performed in Afghanistan, developed the US Stryker and it's taken the same path of Italy (much more AFV and much less MBT brigades)
Tanks would benefit the Italians only as attack purpose, using tanks in italian territory is simply a dumb idea, since it's mostly cliffs and mountains. That's the why they chose to aim more for air force, navy, and artillery.
But remember, Italy is a country that HATES war, so they mostly make equipment only to sell em

125 rams are receiving a mid-life update, they will be equipped with the latest generation systems, and also structural changes such as wider tracks, reinforcement under Mines to protect both passive and active additional armor. the Italian army seems to have plans to lease or buy 200 leopard 2/A6s
The Italian armed forces of today are much better funded than 40 to 50 years ago. The army in particular has been greatly improved. They really should keep tanks to take on other tanks.
True, with few notes:
1) "funding" in 1940 was dramatically insufficent because, just 6 years before, Mussolini's regime sent in east Africa a total 600.000 troops and support, navy, airforce, for the colossal colonial invasion of Abissinia. To put it in perspective, that's the size of Desert Storm operation in Iraq. Italy in the late 30ies was a proto industrial country of 20 millions. During WW2, italian military was completely exhausted, and completely inadequate technically (still using WW1 gear and tactics) against aero-naval superior power.
Henceforth the disaster.
Think about british battleships against japanese torpedo air attacks and multiply 100.
2) Italy is a peninsula surrounded by very steep mountains. We don't need battle tanks for territorial defense, if we need them, it's too late. Tanks are almost inoperable in the Alps. 8 wheels drive IFV Centauro are much better, and the updated version with 120mm gun are fine for territorial defense.
Generally speaking, as much as Britain, Italy relies mostly on navy and airforce for defense, for the same reason. ARIETE tanks (means "Ram") were made for Nato committment and were fairly good back in the day (levelled with Leopard 1 just to put them in context).
Lately it would seem that the Italian army intends to buy 250 or 200 leopard 2/A7 together with the 125 updated rams we arrive at 375/325 mbt
yeah but italy has been bad since its founding as the kingdom of italy in 1861 , it took part in the austro-prussian war and its performance was so bad that it didnt get its promiced terratory by the prussians they gave it to the french who then gave it to the italians since they didnt have a interest in it , then we go to ww1 they hire one of the worst generals in history luigi cardorna and the whole austrian campain is a total failure they again dont get what they have been promiced by the entente , then ww2 the massive infighting alone ruined italy i am not pretending they could have ever matched the germans in achevements but it was still a very poor performance

What does it matter to Italy of tanks? Italy is a peninsula that can only be attacked by the sea and the sky, and to the north there are the Alps that act as a bulwark, also the Italian territory is crossed by the Apennine ridge that makes the use of tanks not decisive because their ability to move would be limited. Better to spend in the air force - naval.

With 3 years, seen how also the Italian economy was low, Mussolini couldn't have done nothing. He asked Hitler 10 years to reactivate the economy, the bellic industry and resupply the army with new armament (a thing that Mussolini however did, but inside the war, with all the limitation annexed)
1) Italy in WW2 was still one of the strongest countries, even if not in the TOP 5.
2) Italy still had more soldiers than the UK, 4.4 million🇮🇹 against 3-3.3 million🇬🇧 (excluding Commonwealth countries).
3) We were also one of the few industrialized countries with a powerful manufacturing industry, even if we weren't strong enough to produce as many vehicles as Germany🇩🇪, the USA🇺🇲, the UK🇬🇧, the USSR🟥 etc, it doesn't mean we sucked.
4) Before the aid of the Lend Lease Act, the Italians in North Africa had no particular difficulties against the Commonwealth forces.
5) Let's take into account that many countries, besides Italy, weren't ready for WW2😉

E' vero, l'Italia non ha un potente esercito di terra, non ha numeri alti di carri, di artiglieria, di lanciarazzi, alcun i dei suoi mezzi, Dardo e Ariete, sono vecchi e non sufficientemente protetti; la cultura bellica di terra italiana negli ultimi 30/40 anni ha seguito una filosofia "post caduta del muro", la quale ha fatto credere che in Europa, con "l'ammorbidimento" della Russia, si potesse vivere felici anche senza un esercito di terra potente! Poi, è arrivata la doccia fredda in Ucraina a svegliare questo torpore che, chi più chi meno, aveva investito tutti i più grossi paesi europei! Non dimentichiamo che, Francia (350 carri Leclerc) Regno Unito (Challenger -300) e Germania (Leopard 2 -350) messi insieme non raggiungono il migliaio di carri! Dunque? Ma, fortunatamente, l'Italia come tutti gli altri paesi è in grado di, in poche settimane, pianificare una spesa di 8 miliardi per finanziare l'acquisto di circa 250 carri Leopard 2 A 8...la legge passerà all'approvazione in parlamento questo mese! Poi, i 125 carri Ariete 2 aggiornati sono in consegna ai reparti, e non vanno dimenticate le Centauro 2 anch'esse in consegna, saranno probabilmente aumentate a 150 unità. E' IN SELEZIONE (CV 90?- o il gioiello tedesco Puma?) per sostituire i vecchi Dardo. L'Italia, nel prossimo decennio porterà la sua qualità di difesa terrestre ai vertici; non dimentichiamo che la Marina Militare italiana ha quasi del tutto sostituito le vecchie fregate classe Maestrale con le Fremm, e sostituirà i vecchi (2) caccia classe Durand De La Penne con 2 nuovi caccia. In consegna la classe (PPA?)Thaon di Revel, 7 con opzione di 3, la Trieste (nave portaerei tuttofare) è in allestimento quasi ultimato, e, dulcis in fundo, la messa in opera per la costruzione della nuova classe di sommergibili U 212 maggiorati, i quali sostituiranno la vecchia classe Sauro! L'Aeronautica non è da meno, le consegne degli f35 sono costanti, in parlamento sembra che si dibatta per l'acquisto di ulteriori 20/25 caccia, in modo da ripristinare il primo ordine di 120 f35, poi annullato da quel governo per...mancanza di fondi. E' evidente che l'Italia abbia più a cuore possedere un deterrente marittimo e aereo evoluto, più che quello terrestre, la conformazione territoriale e l'appartenenza alla Nato sono quasi delle imposizioni. Come sappiamo il nostro apparato industriale è di primo ordine, e siamo in grado di costruirci carri e altre armi, qualora il governo di turno non faccia troppo il pacifista, quando e come vogliamo!

200 tank? At least 30 are available and ready, also, ariete is a late cold war tank, with a old design and featurs. Es. It doesn't have a blowout panel for the ammo rack like the leopard, challenger and abram tanks, frontal armor is weak compare to the european tanks (at least now the goverment decided to upgrade with pso and war kit, plus a better engine). Only the centauro is a good wheeled tank. Avaiton and navy are the biggest branches of the italian army.

2) The Ariete(model '90s) has only 2 defects, the 1300hp engine(still better than that of the English Challenger 2) and as you say the lack of the panel to separate the crew from the ammunition in the turret.
3) How can you tell that Ariete has weak armor?
Do you happen to know classified military information about the thickness and material of the Ariete's inner armor? Difesa Online?😂

4) Even the Leopard 2, M1 Abrams, Challenger 2 and Leclerc are MBTs of an old concept like the Ariete.
5) All MBTs have both hull and turret ammunition, and hull ammunition is unprotected(for Leopard 2, Abrams, Challenger 2 etc etc).
