I'm driving an R-Model Mack here with a 12 speed and 350hp engine. Yes you will see me double clutching because in this truck that's just what it takes sometimes.
Good evening Mike thanks for all the wonderful videos you posted he here they really mean a a lot to me thank you very much you have a blessed evening and God bless
Seeing that style gear shifter and being in the cab during this video brings back so many good memories for me. As a kid in Chicago during summer break my uncle always took me to work with him. He owned and drove his own dump truck and I got to see and experience a lot of the construction sites of popular roadways and highways throughout the city specifically the dan ryan expressway. He drove a 1985 mack r-model dump truck w/a 24 foot dump trailer same style as what he's driving in the video. I love those model dump trucks where the semi is separate from the dump trailers better than the mack tandem dump trucks where the dump box is apart of the semi. My uncles mack truck also had those cool mini metal circle fans that were mounted on the dashboard. Awesome video!
@@TheBostonTrucker hell yea. Hes the one who taught me how to drive. Growing up I was obsessed with semi trucks. Still am too... my folks still tease me because I used to sleep with a toy semi truck lol.
We had two of these for our fire trucks in the mountains Upstate NY /VT… 2,500 gallons of water onboard with 1,000 gallon pumps and jet dumps. I’m no truck driver, but when I drove them I loved every minute of it. The sound was pour music and when your running lights and siren headed to save someone’s life or property and your just grabbin gears… I will admit it was an adrenaline rush 😆
The first truck I ever drove was an R model. A 1972 version with over a million miles on her. I loved it and would almost give my right arm (not really, how would I shift...lol) to drive one again!
@@omgitssnake1 have to double clutch in order to pass any state cdl test. That's both upshifting and down. If you test in an auto you have an automatic restriction on your license
Trent Wheeler why can’t you float the gears of been driving road trains in Australia on dirt roads got no license and I never use the clutch unless Getting out of first gear
Yea baby !!!!! now you are in my neck of the woods Mr Boston trucker!!! As you say Holy Cow !!!! Gotta love that Boston traffic, LOL I was brought up double clutching,, Had a 98 RD triaxle, with a 8 spd,, split 7&8 lo.hi, kind of different never drove one like that before
Nice Classic .... this is one of the first trucks i drove, 1992 it was almost new... now it's a "Classic".. nice clutch work.. i'll admit i didn't use it that much.. lookin back, i think the clutch is easier on the drive line.. Great Video...
I have a R model with 350 hp and an 8 speed RR with lo hole. I always shift by the tach pull out at 1600 rpm and grab the next gear at 1200 rpm. Reverse the above sequence for down shifting.
Last truck I drove was a 98 RD tri-axle. Had a 4 position 10 speed , shifted 1-4 then flip up to 5 & 6, split 7 lo/hi & split 8 lo/h1 different for me but a lot less shifting per load
I like ur shifting too. but i have a question/ is this the same place u spoke of going to work for in ur previous videos? u said u was getting a Kenworth, IIFC, did that job fall thru!
BigJim57 Thank you. This is the same place but when I started here the Kenworth was in the shop for 2 weeks so we borrowed this Mack from a local company we do business with. If you watch my videos you'll see on my 3rd truck at this company which currently is a W900.
yes-i did watch a few more now, and i see ur in a W900, but that video was 2yrs later. and it says the same name on door as ur beginning videos. is the mulch out fit the same as u spoke of when going to work for that different company. i guess i will go back in all of ur videos to watch and see them all to get the big picture. ok. i used to truck also, even up in ur area, but now for the last 5 yrs, i have been disabled due to health reasons. so i enjoy other peoples lives. thanks.
BigJim57 Sorry to hear that Jim. Where do you live? my videos are a progression of my career starting with the first one in 2009. Thank you for watching. If you're on Instagram I post videos and pictures everyday @thebostontrucker.
I've heard it called a Mack 10 or super 10. The extra 2 are including the low hole take-off gears. It's either a secondary switch on the dash or a short stick by the drivers seat. It only allows for use of 1st gear position with the main stick.
I float gears because it works for me and its a smoother ride. I hate the people that bitch about people double clutching. Who the fuck cares as long as your ass is getting down the road?
Good evening Mike thanks for all the wonderful videos you posted he here they really mean a a lot to me thank you very much you have a blessed evening and God bless
You are very welcome Paul, this was an oldie but goodie.
Love it can't beat the character of an old r model mack

I need a drive by of this truck
Fuller transmissions are always easier to shift than Macks transmissions. But a always loved R series Bulldogs.
I have a R model with 350 hp and an 8 speed RR with lo hole. I always shift by the tach pull out at 1600 rpm and grab the next gear at 1200 rpm. Reverse the above sequence for down shifting.
I always float gears except this one time.
If you like Mack's, nothing better than a mack with a gold bulldog. It will run forever
That's right 👍
You should double clutch anyway. Transmissions like it.

Say what? You're hurting my head! 😥 I'll have to locate one of those and take it for a ride.
1st one I ever saw. LOL
The best transmission Mack made the 12 spd
I have one just like the video the only time I use clutch is to start and stop
Yup. Not only that the Maxitorques are so easy to learn on (especially with floating)... at least it was for me.
@@crazymixture57 I prefer using the clutch
Same
Such a nice truck and it's got a torn to shreds seat. Ruins that whole truck. Love your vids though! Keep them coming!
A real truck
👍🔥
mint
Lovin the ahh modle
To me she doesn't sound like a Bulldog, it's more like the growl of a nice and friendly Rottweiler.
just had a feeling this was MA, saw exit sign for east Boston. confirmed
The truck is for sale.?
No sir
Infelizmente não falo inglês mas gosto do ronco e também deste tipo de caminhão.
hablo muy poco mucho gracias

naw-not caught on to that stuff -yet. ha! i just watch on u-tube. i can travel the world on here.lol.
I have one like the in the video and only use the Clutch to start and stop
Is that just a 10 speed with 2 reverse gears which makes it 12?
I've heard it called a Mack 10 or super 10. The extra 2 are including the low hole take-off gears. It's either a secondary switch on the dash or a short stick by the drivers seat. It only allows for use of 1st gear position with the main stick.
what year is it
Steven Baker it's 2017 but if you wanted to know what year the truck is it's in the title of the video!!!
You ever float gears?
Which part of MA is this?

What is the name of this transmission?
Steven Rivera its a mack 12 speed
I'm interested in buying a mack fm 700, can someone help me ??
Lol! Learn to roll of the fuel with your foot bro! Your clutch leg can thank me later.
It probably grinds less getting out of gear with that air shift.
Float it
don't know why you use the clutch to shit.you only use it when you are stopped.
It depends, on some trucks better to use the clutch especially at lower speeds.
PSSS, your bug deflector is upside down, just saying.
liberalism cerebral dysfunction no it's not.
No it's not. That's how they are made.
See kids?....trucks can slow down without a Jake brake
That's right! My Dad ran 48 states without a Jake for decades.
