I don't think that's necessarily true. Different things work for different people. I have a friend in a relationship with two women, they all live together and he's happier than I've ever seen him (I mean, if course he is)but the important part is that both women are also extremely happy. They are basically like best friends that happen to have the same partner, they don't all go to bed together or anything it's kind of scheduled but also not. Now, that said, I'd never go into that. But if it works for some people and they're all happy then I think it's fine for them. I think a big part of why a lot don't work is it's a power dynamic between an established couple and a new person coming in and everyone is not on equal ground. That way the one not in the marriage is never in equal footing. If everyone isn't equal that is always going to make someone feel like they don't belong. Obviously this kind of poly relationship takes the right kind of people. I could never do it. But I don't want to say that means it's bad for everyone. There's people who are poly, there's swingers there's many ways to be not monogamous. Of course monogamy is the norm in our society and there is a tendency to besmirch things out of the normal or usual but that doesn't mean it can't also be healthy and happy.
