During the season there is hardly any rubbish on the beaches of Sri Lanka. The rubbish is washed ashore during high tide. Most of that rubbish doesn’t originate from Sri Lanka.
Still the Weligama Municipal/Urban Council should make sure the beaches are clean. It’s for that people pay taxes for. This is just another example of Sri Lankans government agency failing to do their job and bringing a bad reputation to the country.

Great video. The International license is the way to go. However, I discovered when I was recently in Hua Hin for an extended period, is that there is an expectation that if you stay longer than 60 days you should have a Thai License - which I now have. Beach rubbish is certainly a problem throughout Asia. Trash Heroes is a voluntary organisation that tries to clean up local beaches. I will be in Bali soon, so I intend to revisit some of your earlier videos. Cheers

Good girl, Mandy, too many people just walk through it,& keep dropping more. I myself usually go out after the bins have been emptied and pick up any rubbish that the garbage truck may have left behind or that flew out of the bins when they emptied them. I never see anyone else out there doing it though.
I don't know how you can promote and earn money from Temu, a company pushing out millions of cheap plastic products and fast fashion, then go on about the rubbish problem in Asia.... companies like temu shien, sell million of cheap products with harmful chemicals and keeps its supplier list and supply chain details under wraps, leaving room for doubts about fair wages and factory conditions. And with its products originating entirely from China, there’s a high risk of potential labor exploitation. In fact,....picking up a bag of rubbish in this video is simply laughable
On the rubish two aspects One : majority of the population are litter bugs and throw plactic wrappings all over the place. It's a slow process to change the mind set of the people, but one thing that'll realy work is guys like you advicing the people not to. Second component as it appears in you video is natural wastes and floatsom that washes on to the beach like woods seaweed mangrove components etc which washes up on a nightly basis. Coastal conservation department still doesn't have a proper beach cleaning ops set up like with beach cleaning machinery on a morning basis. Also about 40-50% of human refuse is still not formally collected and properly handled by the local authorities such as municipalities due to budget constraints. I am currently a director of the waste management authority of the western province which generates some 70% if Sri Lankan wastes. My apologies on any unpleasantness you'd have felt and am very appreciative of your honest observations. Baby steps at addressing these issues are enroute, and slow progress. Rgs Arjuna Perera

You got lucky the cop was nice and understanding. it's not just 25000 LKR. you have 2 offenses (insurance/no valid DL) each being 25000. You could've been summoned to courts and 90% of the time they will seize the bike for the expired insurance.

As a Srilanken , I would not recommend tourists to drive these Tuck Tucks and motorbikes for long distances. I do see lots of budget travelers in RUclips use these methods to go around. Maybe small distances in quiet places ok . You got to understand mindset difference of the common drivers in Sri Lanka (In general Asia ) vs drivers EU countries. In Europe when we drive we rely on everyone doing the right thing by the rule book (I mean almost). But In Asia,we expect everyone NOT to follow rules. Therefore constant attention when driving is essential. Even I used to drive in Sri Lanka 10 years ago..I always get the driver to get me around whenever I vist ..so be safe n enjoy . ..its a beautiful country with great people
Forgot about the rubbish. When staying on Himmafushi Island in Maldives in 1981 the beach was their toilet. Men on one beach and women on another. They thought we were nuts lying on the beach sunbaking. Lol
Lloyd Mandy fabulous nofrills as is videos on my country. Thank you. On the driver's licence issue you should apply for what is called an "international driver's licence" in Australia which is issued by the automobile association AAA for Australia i guess. That's valid internationally. You then produce this together with your Aussie licence to the local police and are good to go.
Nonsense! SL requires an additional, costly, recognition of international driver's licence document. An agent can get it for you in Colombo. How I know? I live in SL half of every year.

I have been to Thailand 12 times, and when I get up in the morning, and have had my breakfast. I like to walk on the beach. To see it is clean, gives me a good impression of the place.
Srilanka do have a good beach clean up but it is impossible to keep up when the neighbour India is the biggest pollutant. None of the garbage is not originated from Srilanka
First of all there is a proper established infrastructure to collect and manage garbage. The water ways are not bringing plastic and other things to the ocean in Sri Lanka. Issue is recycling garbage, not collecting. So the things you sow in the ocean is not from the Sri Lanka. Almost all of them washed up from other naibouring countries. make your facts correct.
