"Joey" could have worked if they made it "The Tribbianis" and had an ensemble with more of his seven sisters and the parents (Robert Castanzo & Brenda Vaccaro) and keeping it in NY.
All of those bastards from friends are severely overrated actors and I'm not sure why producers would find it in their minds to pay these guys two million dollars an episode
The thing that was so wrong about "Joey" was that it degraded Joey Tribbiani into a caricature. Joey had been a character with relative depth in Friends (especially in the beginning, but I have to say it started lacking nearing the last seasons), who was beside a womanizer, also caring and sweet and although not very smart, he had his own kind of cleverness. He was somehow relatable and endearing. In "Joey" all of that disappeared.
MsCarotty Ha! Beat you to it because I've already watched all of it! Haha, thanks though! It's a great series and really shows the versatile acting of Matt LeBlanc!
littlemissmello Actually, Joey was my least favorite character of the six. And it wasn't just Joey that declined during the 10 seasons of Friends. Ross' character also became more dense and silly toward the end. Monica became more neurotic. In fact Pheobe was really the only one that stayed consistent. But, Joey wasn't gonna work at all, because as the video said, you can't take one out of an ensemble group and expect him/her to make it on their own.
MsCarotty Ironically though, Episodes portrays Matt LaBlanc much like the OP was complaining how Joey was portrayed in Joey. So obviously that isn't why Joey failed since it works so great in Episodes. The reason Joey failed was terrible writing and a terrible supporting cast. Can the show Joey be number 1 though? Episodes would not have existed if the show Joey was never made and failed.
The irony of the happy days spin off is created the mork and Mindy show which should not have worked but Robin Williams just made the awesome show it was. R.I.P Robin Williams
I HATED MORK AND MINDY AND IT MADE ME DISLIKE ALL WILLIAMS MOVIES WITH THE EXCEPTION OF GOOD MORNING VIETNAM AND THE GREAT YET DANGEROUS DEAD POET SOCIETY. WHEN I SAY DANGEROUS IT IS BECAUSE THERE IS A SUICIDE SCENE AND AS MUCH AS THE FATHER WAS TO BLAME FOR THE SUICIDE OF HIS SON SO WAS THE TEACHER WHO MAYBE PUSHED THE DREAM TOO FAR. AS A TEACHER MYSELF ONE HAS TO KNOW THE LIMIT OF WHAT TO TEACH DEPENDING ON THE AGE. I TELL MY STUDENTS MYSELF WHEN THEY ASK INRESTING QUESTIONS ON MORALITY OR THE SENSE OF LIFE THAT SOMETIMES I CAN' T GIVE THEM AN ANSWER EITHER BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO IMPOSE MY VALUES ON THEM OR ELSE BECAUSE I DON' T THINK THAT AT THAT AGE THEY COULD HANDLE THE TRUTH.
Sebastian Vella did you know Lavern and Shirley first and only spin off with Angie staring Donna prescow as Shirley's cousin but the writers including Gary and penny Marshall wouldn't care for decade dysfunction, but the show lasted for seven months in'79. after what's happening was can walked too in the same year Shirley hemphill played Shirley the maid and secretary for some for a governor and I k ow it lasted a year 1989-81.
jacob harris oh don't forget out of the blue, a third happy days franchise, when an alienated friend of Mork came to Milwaukee, but he's opening his heat to support the Cunningham and more to move to Chicago with an old friend,i forgot who plays the friend? oh remember the puke disco fest, making it? I use to love the song.
"That 80s Show" was bad, but it could have been a good show with small changes. They should have dropped two annoying characters: - The woman who owned the record-store and mentioned sleeping with a different rock-star in each episode. - The ex-girlfriend of the main character who was bi and hung around because she was attracted to his sister.
+David Murray That's a good point, and having watched this again I can see that was this lists aim, but I wouldn't agree that all these spin-offs ruined or tainted the reputation of the originals. For example, Joey didn't ruin the reputation of Friends, people still talk fondly of that show. Edit: Nor the impression
The Brady Brides was the best of the worst then The Bradys and The Brady Bunch Variety Hour was the worst cause even Sherwood Schwartz wanted nothing to do with it.
After I Love Lucy was cancelled, Desi Arnez wanted to do a spin-off called the Mertzes. Both William Frawley and Vivian Vance refused because they could not get along on the set or off.
Good thing. What many of these producers don't understand is that what made these main shows successful is the chemistry the cast has. I cannot imagine a Lucy show with only half the cast. It would have been a disaster.
Yes. It was a really shitty Pound Shop/Dollar Store version of the original. They clearly took old scripts and crossed the names out and put the new characters' names. I've heard of recycling but that's ridiculous. Worst is, they milked that shit for 7 years (though lineup changes and they actually wrapped filming in '98)
How did Saved by the Bell; The New Class not beat out College years? I actually liked college years, more so than that dumb series where they were all at the beach.
You should do a list of the most spinoff-spawning originals, tracing all the lineage. Happy Days had many, All in the Family had "grandchildren" shows like Florence, Dallas, CSI, Brady Bunch. It would be interesting to see which show spawned the most descendants.
Fact - Three's Company, The Ropers and Three's A Crowd are all based on British sitcoms - Three's Company from Man About The House, The Ropers from George and Mildred, and Three's A Crowd from Robin's Nest.
They mentioned Grady.....having been spun off of Sanford and Son....but after Lamont left, they made "Sanford Arms"....which saw Fred Sanford managing his run down building with most of the ensemble if I remember right.
But as it turned out.....I forgot about Redd Foxx leaving to host a variety show on ABC.....and Demond Wilson's salary demands weren't met, so he left too. The shows star was Theodore Wilson....who had been Earl the Mailman on "That's My Mama"...then "Sweet Daddy" on Good Times.
I liked The Golden Palace! However I was really pissed at some of the things they had happen like Miles cheating on Rose and marrying the woman he cheated with and having Stan believed to be dead and only Sophia knew the truth. I know a lot of people were pissed about Dorothy's absence except for one two part episode but as much as I did miss her and do wish she was a part of the main cast and do agree the show wasn't the same without her, I didn't really mind it as much as the first two things I mentioned. I think my favorite episode aside from the one with Dorothy was the one with Blanche's mentally challenged brother. I loved that episode!
The biggest fault with most of these spin-offs is that they attempted to place comic relief characters in the spotlight, and that just simply does not work!!
@@mapleleaf0 I wouldn't say he was a comic relief character, but I would say fans thought he was least likely to get a spin off or one that works, and it ran as long as cheers.
You referring to "Flo"? - I think "Fish" ((Eh) SPIN-OFF from "B*rney Milller") would TIE here. BONUS: Who LIKED (or DIDN'T) "Fish"? *be Vigod* w*s GOOD!
That's what I hate most about the common sitcom ending. They never just end the show and let us imagine that it continues on as we knew it, they always break it up and force everyone to move for no reason. Now with Joey, its just unpleasant watching it because hes supposed to be in New York with his friends, that was his world, that's where he makes sense. But him suddenly alone in LA with hot girls is awkward and disjointed. It's like they plucked him out of one reality and put him in another. Seinfeld had the best ending because it didn't change, nobody moved, nobody left, nobodies lives were resolved. So we know that after 1 year, they'll be back and it will be Seinfeld as usual, we're just not watching anymore.
I have an idea for a countdown. How about main characters that were horribly replaced in a series that wound up killing the series. Chips, & The Dukes of Hazard sprig to mind and I'm sure there are more I cannot think of right now.
The Office Steve Carell wanted to stay but some paperwork didn't go through to make him stay and it would have been better had Dwight been the main character when Michael left instead of Andy.
Considering that "Chachi" sounds similar to the Korean word for penis, it always made me laugh when I heard the ABC voiceover man say "Joanie Loves Chachi" is next....

metalraptor The original WKRP had some of the best writing that I’ve seen from a sitcom. More realistic than given credit, and the cast was pitch perfect. The New WKRP, the writing was mediocre at best, and so it went for the show. Not bad, but nothing memorable.
i dont think there is such a thing as a sequel when it comes to tv and the college yrs didnt have everybody from the original show so it would b a spinoff. Spinoffs usually consist of 1 or more characters from the original show but in a diff setting.
Dizzy Storms : I rememberit quite well. But I did not know it was a spin-off. I thought it was simply the 5th season of the show. I figured the characters were college aged now, so the show should be about their new lives.
Spameggssausage The show lacked good direction and writing. It was a neat concept, that was sorely under developed. Resulting in a very boring experience.
The only MASH spinoff I liked was Trapper John MD. It was strange, cause it didn't have Wayne Rogers in it, which you would expect if you wanted a Trapper John spin-off, but I do love Pernell Roberts, so I enjoyed the show.
Nor was Three's A Crowd this is just part of an echo chamber known as The Internet. The reason they canceled Three's A Crowd was cause ABC wanted more family shows cause that's where everything was going in the 1980's.
Golden Palace wasn't that great, and neither was Three's A Crowd Three's A Crowd would've been a whole lot better if just one other person from Three's Company was on it The Roper's wasn't that great either, but it alot better than Three's A Crowd
@@robkearsy2995 As a diehard Three's Company and John Ritter fan, I have to say that Three's a Crowd was HORRIBLE. It was so bad that John's talent was obscured by the terrible writing and characters in the show. The Ropers was actually pretty good, WAY better than Three's a Crowd. I was so disappointed by Three's a Crowd.
Anyone remember that Rugrats spinoff that was about Angelica and Susie in preschool? Probably not, becuase they only made like 5 episodes, but that show SUCKED!
Joey was bad, but the worst spin-off of all time? Hell no. What about Booker, spin-off of 21-jump street. Lasted 6 months and was horrible, yet it's not even on your list.
It's nowhere near as bad as anything on this list. I actually enjoy it. It gets more hate than it deserves, sure it's no where nearly as good Family Guy, but it's not god-awful. It has some really funny moments and the characters aren't bad, they're not great but not flat out awful. Overall I think it's a worthy spin off to Family Guy.
I'm wit Solarstar10....the 'Cleveland Show' had it's silly at times even funny moments. Nowhere near as baof a spin-off as those mentioned...in my opinion at least.
You're both entitled to your opinion. Personally I didn't care for it mostly because it never made me laugh. I gave it a chance and it never managed to get me invested. But you're right, it's not as bad as things like Joey.
"Gloria" a spinoff of Archie Bunker's place which was a spinoff of All in the Family it lasted one season 1982-1983. Sally Struther reprised her role as Gloria (daughter of Archie Bunker) along with her son Joey as they moved back to NYC after her husband Michael left her for one of his students , so she could be closer to her father. What was funny about this was not once did Archie played by Carroll O' Conner make an appearance in the show as he was angry over an interview Sally Struther gave with TV Guide. He refused to be involved in this spinoff. To add further indignity to it all the show decided to name Joey's adopted black dog Archie after his grandfather. Carroll O'Conner was less than thrilled.
The thing I did not like about the Gloria series is that I did not think it was realistic that Michael would dump his wife and child like that, after all that they had been through together.
@@nancyhey1012 Not so unrealistic, if you really break it down in canon. 1. Both were still very young when they got married. Mike hadn't even gotten his bachelor's yet. 2. Though they seemed to love each other very much, Mike and Gloria still had problems, Mike could be condescending towards Gloria's limited or lack of education, and he was a bit chauvinistic as well. As a matter of fact, Gloria seemed to mold herself around the kind of doting wife, he wanted her to be. (Though she did fight for her own voice many times, she seemed to have trouble finding her own identity apart from being Mike's wife.) 3. Mike and Gloria did separate a few years later on All in The Family, before Gloria's series. Remember the episode, where Archie and Edith visited them in California and the truth came out that they weren't even living in the same house, just keeping up appearances? They did eventually work it out, but in real life that could very well mark the beginning of the end, unless they both got some very good counseling. 4. It would stand to reason that Gloria would become tired of being just Mike's wife and eventually want to find her own smile and that Mike would see this, resent her gradual maturity and growth and seek someone else that would look at him as starry-eyed, hanging on his every word, as his wife used to, i.e, the young girl he for which he left Gloria for and abondoned his child. In a nutshell, it just seemed that Mike and Gloria had sort of outgrown each other and when you really look at it, their drifting apart would sort of make sense.
@@averythecoolcat I see your point. I could see them possible growing apart from each other, but I would hope that they would remain friends, and that Michael would maintain a commitment to their son. I agree Mike had many flaws, including being chauvinist and condescending toward Gloria.
@@nancyhey1012 I did always think that they should have shown Mike, as least on one episode, coming back to see his son or visiting Gloria, but stupidly, they fired the producers that were behind All In The Family and Archie Bunker's Place, so I believe that's what contributed to the show doing so poorly as it did. The writing just really wasn't very good, and it could have been a much better show. Also, I do think Mike meant well as a person, it's just that with his education and being a young man discovering new ideas it made him inadvertently have a tendency to talk down to others including his wife that he felt didn't have the knowledge that he had.
36ODB36 I agree. He was funnier when he was monotone. Then they just kind of gave him some bullshit personality that didn't fit. He was almost like Peter, but less funny.
SMC0DT It fills the role of weird unnatural creature. For Family Guy it's Brian since he's a talking dog and in American Dad it's Roger since he's an alien. Seth McFarlane has the same cast formula in his three shows.
SMC0DT Apparently McFarlane and his crew of writers thought the opposite. I agree with you. He has to be the least funny character on that show. Not saying much since I can't remember actually chuckling at the show.
If it was on AMC or HBO; It would have more adult tone and have a lot "Cocaine" in it like the movie Take Me Home Tonight. It would still be on the air!
The biggest problem for AfterMASH was that they moved it up against The A Team in year two. Three's a Crowd was also based on the British sequel to the show Three's Company used as the format for their series.
"Booker" - spinoff of "21 Jump Street" "704 Hauser" - fourth, last, and only unsuccessful spinoff of "All In the Family" (and sort of a ripoff of "Family Ties") "Crusade" - spinoff of "Babylon 5" "Women of the House" - spinoff of "Designing Women" "Beverly Hills Buntz" - spinoff of "Hill Street Blues" "Sanford Arms" - the other "Sanford and Son" spinoff that answered the question "What if we keep producing "Sanford and Son" with neither Sanford nor son?"
lurch321 Well, it was far more than a name change. Reiner and Struthers had left and Stapleton followed late in the first season. The biggest change was that the primary location went from the house to Archie's bar and the co-stars (including Alan Melvin and Anne Meara) were the employees.
Dude... First, I don't understand why you tacked your list onto mine; this isn't an argument. Second, since you did then I'm tempted to argue. The shows on both my list and that on the video are objective failures. Yours seems to be a list of shows you don't like. I've never seen SGU but it was a critically acclaimed series that ran two seasons and whose cancellation was never satisfactorily justified. Voyager was also highly rated, ran 7 seasons (same as TNG) and was my favorite of the spin-offs. And while Better Call Saul is no Breaking Bad, it is also a ratings success that has been confirmed for a third season. So...you lose the non-argument.
Ive been watching the Cleveland show lately, and it is pretty funny! Not something Id clear my schedule to watch or go out of my way to see... but Im definitely into it. I don't know, I personally wouldn't put it on this list.
I loved Laws & Order: Trial by Jury. I think it was a combination or Jerry Orbach passing away & some people not liking the flip side of the law for it being cancelled.
I really hate how you put “The Golden Palace” in here. That was a great spinoff. It wasn’t as successful because of the loss of Dorothy, but it was still very funny. You should watch it.
Aaron Nieradzik Has it dawned on most people that The Golden Girls/ Golden Palace saga was just a couple of fictional TV shows. The way so many act like the people on that show and spinoff could do no human wrong is sick. They were just people and their time has come for them mostly.
Tabitha was pretty bad. Five years after Bewitched ends its run, their children (somehow now adults even though they were 3 and 7 when the show went off) are out on their own. All continuity was ignored. Adam, the younger sibling and a warlock, become the older sibling and powerless like dad. Ugh!
+rockhopper10r "Tabitha" was bad but at least it had Lisa Hartman who was adorable and looked like she could have been Elizabeth Montgomery's daughter.
In Bill Asher's 1976 "TABATHA" pilot, Adam DID have certain magical abilities like his sister. When Columbia Pictures Television produced their own version of the idea as a series, Adam was just a "plain old mortal".
Adam never had powers. It bugged me that in any show the son 99.99% of the time never gets the powers. In the new Thats so Raven spin off its her daughter that gets the powers not her son Edit: Ravens son DID get the powers. 😊
"Joanie Loves Chachi" is an OK show. The worst thing about it is the opening-credits sequence, in which they sing a corny duet. I bought the series on DVD, and skipped the opening-credits. The show probably would have lasted a few years, and not been on this list, if it only had a better opening-credits sequence.
Archie's Place without a doubt was the worst spin off of all time because it devastated nearly every plot line from All in the Family from which it came. The series has Jean Stapleton's Edith dead and buried, Sally Kellerman's marriage to Rob Reiner's MeatHead imploded before the series begins. Carol O'Connor's Archie Bunker is a widower, retired to running the neighborhood watering hole, and even has an orphan thrown in to boot. Though Kellerman's did return for the ill fated enterprise, it was killing TVs beloved dingbat Edith that audiences didn't and would not forgive.
Toward the end of All in the Family it was revealed that Edith had a health problem that could affect her lungs if she didn't stay off her feet (I forget what it was), and she continued to do her usual charitable activities, because that's how she was. So I think it was no surprise in Archie Bunker's Place when she did die, and I think with Carroll O'Connor's performance in that episode, it was handled appropriately.
Richard Mattingly I didn’t like Archie’s place, they made Carroll O’Connor’s character boring. All the main characters was gone. They should have at least kept Gloria and meathead together. Then brought some kid in the picture! You know when a show starts losing its glitz when they feel the need to bring random kids and orphans in the picture.
He's not so bad. He's got that brash Brooklyn outspokenness + he's Republican, so it makes him come off as obnoxious, but he's really not a bad guy. Just don't talk politics with him. 😏😁
I've been wanting to see "Top 10 Best TV Spin-offs for awhile". I just hope they take Animation into consideration, because Darkwing Duck deserves to be on that list (as does Torchwood, but that's just my personal opinion)
Justin Daube Definitely agree with Darkwing Duck - one of my all-time favourite cartoons, But I wonder, would "Goof Troop" also count, as a spin-off of the Goofy cartoons?
I agree with "Darkwing Duck"! Also "Pinky and the Brain" and "Daria" in the animation department. As far as live action goes, "Fraiser", "Angel", "Torchwood" are some good ones and I can see watchmojo putting "Law and Order:SVU" on the list because it's been on forever.
Speaking of Jean Kasem, here is a fun fact. She was in Ghostbusters while her husband, the late Casey Kasem, provided his voice on the radio in the movie.
Hey, I'll have to disagree. Granted it stayed on the air for years I'll have to say Perry Mason was the best and here's why. Perry Mason was a book that tuned into a movie and then it sun off into a television show. It then spun off again over 25 years later into made for tv movies. Now, when Frasier does that I'll agree with you LOL.
@@TheMidnightBell07 Yeah, but "Perry Mason" does not fit the perimeters of this video. It was NOT a spin off of another successful TV show. The latter "Perry Mason"-s, with an older and gray Raymond Burr, were NOT a TV show, they were special TV Movies.
W*A*L*T*E*R was also spun off from M*A*S*H. Only one episode was produced/aired in a limited area. It showed the adventures of Radar after he returned home. He put his mother in a hospice. Left the farm behind and became a police officer. Out of the Blue - spun off from Happy Days . Random the Angel was introduced in an episode of Happy Days. Random lived with a family/tried helping them out. Robin Williams guest starred in one episode as Mork, but even that couldn't save the show.
Baywatch Nights--Watched 3 episodes and quit; Golden Palace--watched it for awhile; Three's A Crowd--I remember it as being funny but didn't care it was only one season; Models Inc--watched a few episodes but due to it being a Melrose Place spinoff didn't understand some of the references and bailed; Top of The Heap--didn't know it existed; After M*A*S*H*---watched enough episodes to be embarrassed to admit the number of episodes I watched; Saved By The Bell: The College Years--It was cute but didn't care it was only one season; Joannie Loves Chachi--I am blushing as I remember that I did watch that show; The Tortellis--didn't know it existed. The WORST thing about "Joey" is I was old enough to know that spin-offs seldom work.
Did you ever hear of the "Family Ties" spin-off "The Art Of Nick"? It was a spin-off prequel, showing the life of Nick Moore before he met Mallory and the Keatons. It only got to pilot stage. Interesting fact. It also starred a pre-"Seinfeld" Julia Louise-Dreyfus You can watch the pilot on "RUclips" and judge for yourself.
@@tejaswoman What about Archie Bunker's Place? I mean, it kind of wasn't a spin-off as much as a name change because the only part of the original family left was Archie. But it was so different, it was pretty much a completely different show, and it didn't last much longer after that.
I do love Sally Struthers, and I thought the concept of that show could have worked if given time. I mean, her situation was a bit like on Alice, and that lasted decades.
Three's a Crowd didn't taint Three's Company. Nobody even remembers Three's a Crowd! I totally forgot about it until this video, and now I do remember watching a few eps. It came and went like most of these, and none of them affected the originals.
I know there were spin-offs from welcome back mother,mr. t and tons, and there's one in a million with Shirley hemphill from what's happening as a Maid / secretary.
She wasn't a maid. She was a cab driver that somehow became an executive of a company. I think a guy she drove around in her cab left it to her or something like that.
Ratting were not great but it was not really a flop. Just very very expensive and they could not afford to continue. Only did 2 seasons....dynasty was actually a flop at first until a certain Joan Collins
Yes it was a spin off, a dirty dirty spin off and shall never be mentioned in the same sentence. It has to be swept under the rug as much as possible. Ask Bill Lawrence.
It's a spin off. It doesn't have the whole cast, nor the same narrator. It was an attempt to start the series again. If you don't like the 'term spin off', use 'reboot'. Watch the bonus materials, all is explained. Just because wikipedia lists it as part of the main series doesn't mean it's true. Take it up with Bill Lawrence, he only created the show so what would he know.
Neville6000 Huh? Your statement makes no sense. On a side note however I'm not actually bitching about the list. I don't know what made you think that. But then again if you can't write, I can't honestly expect you to be able to read.
It is actually not considered a spin off...its a sequal show...it continued the stories of the Zack and cody and wrapped it up at the end with there graduation from high school...so no not a spin off at all.
What about "Gloria", a spinoff from "All in the Family". It ran 1 season around 1982(?) and was about Archie Bunker's daughter as a single mom. It had something to do with her working in a veterinarian's office. Anyone remember that one?
"Joey" could have worked if they made it "The Tribbianis" and had an ensemble with more of his seven sisters and the parents (Robert Castanzo & Brenda Vaccaro) and keeping it in NY.
good idea
I was pissed they didn't roll with that 😤
I think that's a good idea. I also think the real problem with Joey was it should have been 1 or 2 years later not right away.

they don't really qualify for this list because they didn't tarnish or destroy the impression of the original show.
+David Murray That's a good point, and having watched this again I can see that was this lists aim, but I wouldn't agree that all these spin-offs ruined or tainted the reputation of the originals. For example, Joey didn't ruin the reputation of Friends, people still talk fondly of that show.

The Brady Brides was the best of the worst then The Bradys and The Brady Bunch Variety Hour was the worst cause even Sherwood Schwartz wanted nothing to do with it.
@@jeffreydotson4842 yep just like Saved By The Bell The College Years didn't tarnish the reputation of Saved By The Bell
After I Love Lucy was cancelled, Desi Arnez wanted to do a spin-off called the Mertzes. Both William Frawley and Vivian Vance refused because they could not get along on the set or off.
Rumors have it FRIENDS may make a return,
Good thing. What many of these producers don't understand is that what made these main shows successful is the chemistry the cast has. I cannot imagine a Lucy show with only half the cast. It would have been a disaster.
From what I've read "could not get along" is the understate of the year.
@@spiff2268 --- Chances are you know those on set arguments were unscripted.
@@luisserrano3073 Lucy did go on to make two other series, one of which included Vivian Vance but not the men.
Does anyone else find it curious how Matt LeBlanc's career pretty much mirrors the success of Joey's in "Friends"?
Watch the BBC Show "Episodes" it pretty much satirises Matt Le Blanc's current career as an actor.
was thinking the same Komic. He is doing pretty good now for only doing t.v i liked him in lost in space
Cameron Miskelley Each their own I guess but that movie is terrible. I haven't seen LeBlanc in a good film yet :/
I would argue Matt Leblanc was more success because of Friends alone - and of course the money that came with it (especially in the final season).
I adore Matt Leblanc 😍❤️
That 80's show.....
Spinoff of "That 70's Show"
Deez Nutz There was actually a show called that?
Brenda Conklin yes.... Look it up👌
Deez Nutz I don't really think that's a spinoff though. It's just a copycat.
Deez Nutz Wow lol. I don't know if I want to look it up. Lol. :)
Saved by the Bell: The New Class was infinitely worse than The College Years.
OMG!!!! I remember that one. What a mess
They were both equally terrible but at least the college years was gone after one year and not giving 6 more seasons.
The College Years was good. The New Class was awful.
Yes. It was a really shitty Pound Shop/Dollar Store version of the original. They clearly took old scripts and crossed the names out and put the new characters' names.
I've heard of recycling but that's ridiculous.
Worst is, they milked that shit for 7 years (though lineup changes and they actually wrapped filming in '98)
Can we all agree that.....Zack Morris is trash lol
I really liked the Golden Palace. And with a few more guest appearances from Dorothy, it could've worked
It seems like a good spinoff.
How did Saved by the Bell; The New Class not beat out College years? I actually liked college years, more so than that dumb series where they were all at the beach.
The Malcolm in the middle spin-off called Breaking Bad. IDK What happened i guess Hal abandoned Malcolm and the family to make meth
That wasn't a spinoff dumbass.
But it was a pretty good spin-off. And I guess you haven't watched the ending - it was all just Hal's dream.
Trias00 riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight
@Steve Espinola No shit? You're a fucking genius.
Breaking Bad was an attempt to focus on Hal's career instead of just focusing on Lois' great drug store gig!
You should do a list of the most spinoff-spawning originals, tracing all the lineage. Happy Days had many, All in the Family had "grandchildren" shows like Florence, Dallas, CSI, Brady Bunch. It would be interesting to see which show spawned the most descendants.
OMG, I had totally forgotten Florence got her own show.
The Golden Palace was actually funnier than a lot of shows they keep on the air.
Marchant2 - I agree.
Empty Nest was a more successful spin off of The Golden Girls
It was alright, but not better than the original.
Very underrated show.
Agree
"Mr T and Tina" almost sounded awesome until I saw it wasn't an A-Team spin off.
Hahahaaa!!!! Me too!!!! 😆😆😆
After A-Team, Mr T starred in the TV show T. and T. which is what I thought of when I heard the name.
Newsflash: It wasn't a spin off of Kotter either. It was another Happy Days spin off.
I know, right?
I imagine a show where Mr T gets hooked on meth.
They forgot to mention "Booker", the spin-off of "21 Jump Street."
I loved Booker even though it was a bit uneven and they ended up replacing Katie Rich with Lori Petty. Okay, you're right. That was terrible.
I think we can all agree that david hasslehoff was the main writer of baywatch nights 🤣
Fact - Three's Company, The Ropers and Three's A Crowd are all based on British sitcoms - Three's Company from Man About The House, The Ropers from George and Mildred, and Three's A Crowd from Robin's Nest.
the ropers werent that bad. im surprised it didnt last long.
BDWJ1986 Thank YOU, Human Peanut Gallery...;)
true
@The NEW Jason's Cartoon Favorites! Finding Dory was more of a sequel, though.
Good point, with one big exception being Frasier.
@@mapleleaf0 I wouldn't say he was a comic relief character, but I would say fans thought he was least likely to get a spin off or one that works, and it ran as long as cheers.
"Happy Days" had two very successful spin-offs, though, in "Laverne & Shirley" and "Mork & Mindy".
I didn't even know Baywatch Nights made it past the 1st season. LMAO at it becoming an X-Files ripoff.
I didn't know it was a show either, so I watched every episode on You Tube. Its actually quite funny because Hasselhoff is so...Hasselhoff!
'Flo' Spin off from the sitcom Alice is my nomiation
michael green Flo got run off by Alice. She was going to kill Alice who was a bitch
Never seen it.
Oh yes, Flo's Yellow Rose.
That was before she became the spokeswoman for Progressive.
I know, remember Alice? Miraculously it survived after replacing the original Flo, what, twice?
Three's Company lol. The blonde was replaced 2 or 3 times!
Yup. Cool idea
Well she probably did. But she's dead now.
"All in the Family" spawned many good spin-offs. "Gloria", however is not one of them.

The New WKRP: In Cincinnati, they made the mistake of airing the premiere right after a marathon of the original series, which was far better.
metalraptor The original WKRP had some of the best writing that I’ve seen from a sitcom. More realistic than given credit, and the cast was pitch perfect. The New WKRP, the writing was mediocre at best, and so it went for the show. Not bad, but nothing memorable.
But the OLD WKRP was just that ... W-CRAP!!!!
It was more of a reboot like 90210.
SAVED BY THE BELL:THE COLLEGE YEARS IS A SEQUEL NOT A SPINOFF.
SAVED BY THE BELL THE NEW CLASS SHOULD'VE BEEN IN THE LIST.
gourav chakroborty agreed
i dont think there is such a thing as a sequel when it comes to tv and the college yrs didnt have everybody from the original show so it would b a spinoff. Spinoffs usually consist of 1 or more characters from the original show but in a diff setting.
Aftermash and golden palace were also sequels
Good point more like a continuation than a spin off
I like The College Years better than The New Class.
Does anyone remember Saved By the bell : The New Class? That was pretty bad from what I heard.
It was, but it gave Anthony Anderson his start.
And it somehow lasted longer than the original...
Dizzy Storms : I rememberit quite well. But I did not know it was a spin-off. I thought it was simply the 5th season of the show. I figured the characters were college aged now, so the show should be about their new lives.

AfterMASH wasn't funny
I thought those balloon animals were sex toys for a second
Spameggssausage The show lacked good direction and writing. It was a neat concept, that was sorely under developed. Resulting in a very boring experience.
The only MASH spinoff I liked was Trapper John MD. It was strange, cause it didn't have Wayne Rogers in it, which you would expect if you wanted a Trapper John spin-off, but I do love Pernell Roberts, so I enjoyed the show.
Hahaha! I thought the same thing then once I realized they were balloon animals I thought the animals had a funny long shape sooo....

Never really liked M.A.S.H that much. So l knew l would probably not have liked AfterMash at all.
The Golden palace wasn't that bad
Nor was Three's A Crowd this is just part of an echo chamber known as The Internet. The reason they canceled Three's A Crowd was cause ABC wanted more family shows cause that's where everything was going in the 1980's.
Golden Palace wasn't that great, and neither was Three's A Crowd
Three's A Crowd would've been a whole lot better if just one other person from Three's Company was on it
The Roper's wasn't that great either, but it alot better than Three's A Crowd
@@robkearsy2995 As a diehard Three's Company and John Ritter fan, I have to say that Three's a Crowd was HORRIBLE. I was so disappointed by Three's a Crowd.
Empty Nest Was a more successful spin off of The Golden Girls
I think that when Dorothy got married, that should have been the end of "The Golden Girls".

Let's all hope Better Call Saul isn't a terrible spin-off.
I doubt it will be. They still have Vince Gilligan, and multiple writer's from Breaking Bad. Plus, Bob Odenkirk is an excellent actor.
TuphSteel do you know when it is airing?
Andrew Zebedee February of 2015, so we got a ways to go.
I doubt it will be better then breaking bad though.
I wouldnt be too confident. I mean Vince Gilligan also wrote Hancock :P
The Cleveland Show should have gotten at least a mention.
Agree.
Why? That show was good and ran for 4 seasons. Some episodes were funnier than Family Guy.
The Michael Richards Show.... "what if Kramer was a detective" ? enough said. ( Im not making it up, btw)
I remember the show, but it's not technically a spin-off since he was playing a different character (albeit in name only).
Seems like you know your Spin Offs because Dastardly & Muttley and their Flying Machines was a Spin Off of The Wacky Races
(Though she did fight for her own voice many times, she seemed to have trouble finding her own identity apart from being Mike's wife.)
Cleveland Show?
36ODB36 I agree. He was funnier when he was monotone. Then they just kind of gave him some bullshit personality that didn't fit. He was almost like Peter, but less funny.
Plus (this has been annoying me since the pilot)...WHAT'S WITH THE FUCKING BEAR?!
SMC0DT It fills the role of weird unnatural creature. For Family Guy it's Brian since he's a talking dog and in American Dad it's Roger since he's an alien. Seth McFarlane has the same cast formula in his three shows.
But why a bear? It's painfully unfunny
SMC0DT Apparently McFarlane and his crew of writers thought the opposite. I agree with you. He has to be the least funny character on that show. Not saying much since I can't remember actually chuckling at the show.
Golden palace was on track for a second season but got pulled at the last minute
that 80s show
Let's just forget that ever happened...
It wasn't a spin off though.
If it was on AMC or HBO; It would have more adult tone and have a lot "Cocaine" in it like the movie Take Me Home Tonight. It would still be on the air!
How is that not on the list??
Supreme Nico Because it's not a spin-off haha.
The biggest problem for AfterMASH was that they moved it up against The A Team in year two. Three's a Crowd was also based on the British sequel to the show Three's Company used as the format for their series.
"Booker" - spinoff of "21 Jump Street"
"704 Hauser" - fourth, last, and only unsuccessful spinoff of "All In the Family" (and sort of a ripoff of "Family Ties")
"Crusade" - spinoff of "Babylon 5"
"Women of the House" - spinoff of "Designing Women"
"Beverly Hills Buntz" - spinoff of "Hill Street Blues"
"Sanford Arms" - the other "Sanford and Son" spinoff that answered the question "What if we keep producing "Sanford and Son" with neither Sanford nor son?"
"All In the Family" actually had 4 spinoffs before "704 Hauser": The Jeffersons, Maude, Gloria, and Archy Bunker's Place.

Well, it was far more than a name change. Reiner and Struthers had left and Stapleton followed late in the first season. The biggest change was that the primary location went from the house to Archie's bar and the co-stars (including Alan Melvin and Anne Meara) were the employees.

Better Call saul
Joey was such a great character, but the spin-off was absolutely awful.
I guess "The Cleveland Show" deserved a honorable mention as well.
Ive been watching the Cleveland show lately, and it is pretty funny! Not something Id clear my schedule to watch or go out of my way to see... but Im definitely into it. I don't know, I personally wouldn't put it on this list.
I kinda liked it, i guess it's a guilty pleasure for me.
Horrible show. Just couldn't get into it whatsoever. I tried...
When Columbia Pictures Television produced their own version of the idea as a series, Adam was just a "plain old mortal".
they should have given him pysic powers then gave him a girlfriend the show could have lasted
Adam never had powers.
It bugged me that in any show the son 99.99% of the time never gets the powers. In the new Thats so Raven spin off its her daughter that gets the powers not her son
Edit: Ravens son DID get the powers. 😊
The Brady Girls Get Married is the ONLY reunion show with all the original cast returning. That wasn't bad at all.
The golden Palace was excellent and just as funny as the golden girls but the time to let go had just come
WHAT ABOUT PLANET SHEEN?
+Ben Des Forges Planet Sheen isn't a tv spin-off. It's a cartoon spin-off. This list is live action, not animation.

Ben Des Forges If it did include animation, Planet Sheen would at least be in the top three, though.
Yep It Would
+Ben Des Forges anyone vaguely remember GILLIGAn's planet !! I certainly wish I didn't !!
I know lol!
it was FOX not CBS that had Models
If Central Park West was any indication, Models, Inc would have been a bigger failure on CBS.
THANK YOU! Not sure how they mixed that up, but MP and Model's Inc were definitely fox shows!
@@jreed3620 It's probably because CBS acquired decades worth of TV shows through mergers, even though they originally aired on other networks.
CORRECT!
How the heck did they get that wrong????
Baywatch nights was weird and confusing. Sophia was too old to have been left by Dorothy on golden palace
Richard Mattingly I think you mean Sally Struthers and not Kellerman.
It was not a spin off. It was All In The Family retooled .
Who is Sally Kellerman? For someone who is spouting so much knowledge you don't even know a main actors name?
Richard Mattingly I didn’t like Archie’s place, they made Carroll O’Connor’s character boring. All the main characters was gone. They should have at least kept Gloria and meathead together. Then brought some kid in the picture! You know when a show starts losing its glitz when they feel the need to bring random kids and orphans in the picture.
the golden place wasn't that bad
Not as good as the original.
The title is misleading. With Scott Baio in the thumbnail shouldn’t this video be called “top 10 worst people” ?
He's not so bad. He's got that brash Brooklyn outspokenness + he's Republican, so it makes him come off as obnoxious, but he's really not a bad guy. Just don't talk politics with him. 😏😁

Top 10 Best TV Spin-Offs
Nr. 1 would probably be Frasier.
Highretrogamelord Yep.
I've been wanting to see "Top 10 Best TV Spin-offs for awhile". I just hope they take Animation into consideration, because Darkwing Duck deserves to be on that list (as does Torchwood, but that's just my personal opinion)
Justin Daube
Definitely agree with Darkwing Duck - one of my all-time favourite cartoons,
But I wonder, would "Goof Troop" also count, as a spin-off of the Goofy cartoons?
I agree with "Darkwing Duck"! Also "Pinky and the Brain" and "Daria" in the animation department. As far as live action goes, "Fraiser", "Angel", "Torchwood" are some good ones and I can see watchmojo putting "Law and Order:SVU" on the list because it's been on forever.
Speaking of Jean Kasem, here is a fun fact. She was in Ghostbusters while her husband, the late Casey Kasem, provided his voice on the radio in the movie.
Sam and Cat,the spin off of two awesome shows (ICarly and Victorious) should've gotten an honorable mention.
The Ropers should have been on this list. That show was just awful! But this was a great list. :)
They mentioned The Ropers saying it was a ratings success
The Ropers weren't actually a spin off. They were two characters from another show put in an American version of a British show.

I don't know what the worst spin off is but the best and most successful spin off ever was Frasier.

Law and order SVU might give it a run for most successful, it's in its 20th season or something.
Harry Engel, I agree with your list! I would add Laverne and Shirley, The Jeffersons, Maude, Melrose Place, and Rhoda.
@Harry Engel Season 21 starts in September
@@TheMidnightBell07 Yeah, but "Perry Mason" does not fit the perimeters of this video. It was NOT a spin off of another successful TV show. The latter "Perry Mason"-s, with an older and gray Raymond Burr, were NOT a TV show, they were special TV Movies.

Didnt like "Gloria" at all, and too much of a fan of "The Golden Palace".
Robin Williams guest starred in one episode as Mork, but even that couldn't save the show.
plz do it for robin williams top 10 ROBIN WILLIAMS MOVIES
***** why not
What about Lauren Bacall top
-.-
They already did that you fucking idiot
Would also want to see that
they did it ages ago
The Cleveland Show.
seriously, I admit season 1 was funny, but then it started to be more like its parent show
The Cleveland show was great!
Avatarblackwolf they gave Cleveland a spinoff because he was the only one who would learn a lesson every week
I actually liked Models, Inc..... better than Melrose Place..... Even though it was a spin-off, of a spin-off.....
Me too!
Melrose Pl*ce w*s (eh) SPIN-OFF of "Beverly Hills 90210", *m I right?
I loved Models Inc!
Where's planet sheen? Even when I was 10 I knew it sucked! Bad writing and bad characters everywhere! Also, anyone remember All Grown Up?
Planet Sheen was pretty bad; though I thought the Rugrats' spinoff was passable.
The Meme Sheriff I prefer rugrats
Did you ever hear of the "Family Ties" spin-off "The Art Of Nick"?
It was a spin-off prequel, showing the life of Nick Moore before he met Mallory and the Keatons.
It only got to pilot stage.
Interesting fact. It also starred a pre-"Seinfeld" Julia Louise-Dreyfus
You can watch the pilot on "RUclips" and judge for yourself.
How 'bout that Jefferson's short-lived offshoot "Checking In" (1981) with Marla Gibbs and Ferret Face!?
WOW!! How would you even know that , if it is true.?
I seen the first couple of episodes, and then it was canceled so fast before l could catch it again.
Remember it well. She was head of the maids in a hotel, I believe.
What about Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior?
And Beyond Borders. Truly needless, even with Gary Sinise.
You’re joking about the golden palace right? It was way ahead of its time. Long live golden palace!
Gloria - spin-off of All in the Family
YES! And it may have the distinction of being the *_only_* _All in the Family_ spinoff that was unsuccessful.
Great idea, bad writers.
Ironically, The Lone Gunmen's ONLY season rated higher than The X-Files' FIRST season. I think it's a conspiracy.
The Brady Bunch hour??? where's that ay? Maybe in another video!
You made a big mistake. The worst spinoff of Saved By The Bell was Saved By The Bell The New Class.
speedlearner I agree
Yes, never liked The New Class.
I disagree I liked Save by the Bell: The New Class.
Everyone agrees lol that’s like the whole comment sections opinion. New class was way worse than college years.
I guess I'm the only one who liked Saved by The Bell: The New Class, that's OK I don't mind as I said I liked it.
Anyone who wants to do a spin-off should learn from Activision. The launch a new COD every year, with almost nothing new, and it still sells millions.
So, Adriana La Cerva wasn't Killed by Silvio Dante. She went to live with Joey.
Gregory Wall witness protection
I liked the College Years almost as much as the original!
I know this is a newer spinoff but, Sam & Cat was pretty horrible.
Completely agree. Victorious was such an awesome show and ended way too early.
I actually thought it was good
Are they still making new episodes? i hope not
what happen to the show?
Thanks for the info
Three's a Crowd didn't taint Three's Company. Nobody even remembers Three's a Crowd! I totally forgot about it until this video, and now I do remember watching a few eps. It came and went like most of these, and none of them affected the originals.
"Models, Inc." aired on Fox, not CBS.
I feel like the only person who likes Matt LeBlanc. Seems like the kind of guy you'd want to hang out with.
I like him too.
I love him so much! 😍❤️
I liked "Joey"
+gentillefille I want to see it so bad rn 😭😍❤️
+gentillefille as no you did not
I know there were spin-offs from welcome back mother,mr. t and tons, and there's one in a million with Shirley hemphill from what's happening as a Maid / secretary.
She wasn't a maid. She was a cab driver that somehow became an executive of a company. I think a guy she drove around in her cab left it to her or something like that.
Sam & Cat
YAS mama. YAS.
It's Nickelodeon past 2004. What do you expect .
it was actually a really popular show though
simone robson iCarly was good, well the first 2 seasons anyway. It went right down the crapper after that.
Dipper723 I personally think the later seasons were better.
"Don't go away, we'll be right back!"
RUUUUUUUUUN!
The Colby's? The biggest flop of the 80s spun off from Dynasty?
It may have been a pale imitation of "Dynasty" and a ratings flop but it had Stephanie Beacham who was amazing.
I've never seen The Colby's
I never heard of it so yeah.. horrible
Wasn't the biggest flop it didn't help that it was up against Cheers and Night Court
Ratting were not great but it was not really a flop. Just very very expensive and they could not afford to continue. Only did 2 seasons....dynasty was actually a flop at first until a certain Joan Collins
I was expecting to see Scrubs: Med-School. Now that was a stinker.
Johnny Carson Again wikipedia is not a credible source. Watch the dvd and you will see that it is a reboot/spin off.
Macconator2010: Why don't you suggest your on list instead of bitching about this one?
Neville6000 Huh? Your statement makes no sense. On a side note however I'm not actually bitching about the list. I don't know what made you think that. But then again if you can't write, I can't honestly expect you to be able to read.
Suite Life On Deck
Its hard to call tht a spinoff, because it had most of the main characters still in it. But i agree the hotel one was better
I agree. I loved the suite life of Zack and Cody Better than Suite life on deck.
i agree the original was better but it did last and it wasnt terrible.
I like to consider that a continuation of Zack and Cody.
Deb Prescott. Yes. It was AWFUL.
What, no MRS. COLUMBO?
That's a real show?
rackinfrackin ?
@@angiearbogast5424 Starring Kate Mulgrew.
Kate Mulgrew ( not sure of the spelling ) played Mrs. Columbo in her own series ! Thanks
Ironically the show Joey went the way that the character's shows usually do, they canned hahaha.
Mac & Cheese ftw!!!
