The problem with teams against Brady is 90% of the time since the mid 2010’s teams have always played the opposite way. They usually play soft and scared instead of physical and hitting. That’s why the Giants and Ravens and even the Rex Ryan Jets had great success vs Brady even with just Good qb play not great most games. They always hit Brady even if it meant penalties for the nfls favorite boy. You fluster him with 3 good hits early in a game and he’s a completely different player. Teams will constantly let him dink and dunk for most of the field instead of taking out the short game and forcing him to make consistent plays in the mid to deep range with the fear of pressure. The Ravens and Giants never made any crazy game plans. It was always physicality.
No shit men. If you can stop the run at the high level and constantly play press man with your 4-man rush pressuring qb on every single snap. How can any QB win that. You saw what happened to Mahomes in the super bowl. You are acting like you discovered something revolutionary
The question I'll always have regarding Brady was did he learn to read defenses this well because Bellicheck & he pored over all those illegal films of opposing team's practices in detail until Brady understood what he was seeing? It's one thing to look up & _suspect_ one sort of coverage or another, another entirely to *know* it. Brady sneaks looks at defensive alignment _after_ as well as before snaps, to look for any changes. We *know* the Patriots did this: we know you don't take that footage then don't _use_ it, & this tendency itself is certainly a great way to use it. Part of me thinks that this is what's going on in New England now with Bellicheck sticking to his guns with Mack Jones despite Bailey Zappe's success. I'm starting to think that Bill brought Mack into some inner scheme that he doesn't want others to know about. All speculation. But food for thought nonetheless.
Teams did this to Brady when his WR depth wore thin in NE too. You can't win with accuracy or reads if everyone going out for a pass gets wrecked. Unlike his late NE teams, however, they will get some players back this season, so I don't expect it to go so nicely for teams in the playoffs. It gets a lot harder to take players away when they're good route runners, and teams can't double everyone.
Great video Billy, I enjoy the content you produce. I'm confused about one thing. When you mention Brady's footwork, you mention because he starts with his left foot forward, he's really taking 2 steps instead of 3 speeding up his release. Is the left foot forward supposed to count as a "ghost 3rd step"? Or if he's only taking 2 steps, doesn't that affect the timing of his wide receivers as well? I guess I'm trying to understand how a traditional 3 step drop route for most QBs can be executed the same way with Brady only using 2 steps.
I think what he is saying is that most people and quarterbacks perfrom a ghost step when starting anytype of motion. Like if youre standing straight up and then try to launch into a sprint you put a footback instead of just immedialty pushing off creating whats called the false step commonly. Brady is starting in a stance where he can just immedielty back pedal without the false step. why every other quarterback dosent do this idk. he is not more athletic then them so maybe other teams dont think its that important or brady is just so comfortable in the pocket and in his routine other qbs would mess up because of it.
@@nathanbledsoe8163 Yeah, I can see how eliminating the "false step" helps with pocket integrity because your drop is shallower and it makes tougher for edge defenders to take the proper pass rush angles. But I don't see how it speeds up the timing of the play. The receiver still needs to get open at a certain time. And if the route they're running is, for example, traditionally tied to a 3 step drop, if Brady drops with 2 he's still waiting for them to get open. Unless you're saying that 3 step drops for QBs are really 4 step drops if you include the false step? And that receivers are actually getting open a hair sooner than we think? Or Brady has eliminated the false step, receivers are still getting open the same time as any other drop, it's just that Brady is throwing with slightly more anticipation than most, which would mean his receivers can't afford to be off time at all.
Makes you realize just how special the Bucs defense was in that playoff run. This team that just shut him out could only score 9 points and last year with Brees they didn’t do much better lol. And don’t get me wrong Brees is amazing but the Bucs were just on another level n
His release time is what makes it hard to beat him along with his knowledge of playing every defensive scheme ever played. You have to be physically and intelligent must nfl teams can’t do both.
As a falcons fan i hate the saints, but it was sooooo satisfying seeing them cut off Brady's, every team had an unwritten rule of no matter how much we hate each other we want to beat Brady
Problem is is that the saints basically forced the bucs to pass deep because they cover the run game and short passes up so well. Because they do that it gives the dline and lbs time to rush brady and get to him before the recievers can even get deep enough for brady to pass.

How stupid, the game would’ve looked different if Godwin and Evans were there? Saints beat the Bucs twice last season with both players in the lineup.
Feel like shorter developing plays like screens and more bunch formations would have helped with the man coverage
