Death metal being an extension of baroque style it obviously meshes well with nearly any mainstay instrument of that time, cello, violin, piano, organs, lute, operatic powerful vocality.
I listened to this album a while ago when it came out, everytime I went to see my really sick grandpa to the hospital. Doctors at the hospital where my friends at the time, I am too, that's why. They told me they did everything they could, but my grandpa was going to die. I was blind of hope. Eventually he passed away. This album gave me that sense of beautiful hopelessness that Death is just a transition. So it helped me to face reality. Helped me with grief and mourn. I miss you both, Papa Julio, Papa Beto. Great men they were.
Ne Obliviscaris is one of the most talented, if not the most talented, musical groups making music today. I hope we get graced with another album from them in the next few years
I honestly thought of Dark Souls 3 when I saw the thumbnail, that's why I clicked. Glad to see my DS passion has also brought me pleasure, not just pain and suffering.
I think almost all musicians from the heaviest genres could be teach music and many work in music schools. But I agree 100% this band is really in the "higher scale" they are the pros! :)
@@jackbenson8228 Have a bad experience when you met the band or just not a fan? Genuinely curious since I haven't had the chance to see them live/meet them yet.

It's so funny because I consider the first song to be the weakest on the album, and I completely agree. About 30 seconds in and I'm already trying to find physical copy.
I found a whole bunch of bands all at once by finding one of them. I haven't been looking for fresh death metal for a long time due to EVERYTHING being ruined by djent today. Guess I should've kept looking.
my fav Ne Obliviscaris part is that progression at 29:00 the riff along with the chords, then the drums, neat bass, breakdown into growls, second stop and the violin kills it, I need to be on a concert and listen to that.
Got to play with these guys for the second time this year and I can say without a doubt that their live preformance captures the studios magic perfectly
this album doesnt reveal its secrets all at once. it takes many listens to actually fully understand how good it is it is a deceptive album, because unlike some that reach out and grab you by the balls and rip them off, it reaches around, and caresses you then it shoves a guitar through your heart while the violin and drums play
Has anybody heard of Kalisia? If you like this kind of prog metal with some experimentation you should give Kalisia a try. They include keyboards, flutes, sax and other stuff in their mix. And the music is mainly death metal, kind of melodic but very progressive, but difficult to "label" as they have thrashy riffs, some power-metal epicness, even some black-metal-like rhythms, industrial, definitely Dream Theater influences, you can also hear some Cynic riffs (Paul Masvidal appears as a guest guitarist), it has everything. Female clean voices with traditional Death Metal vocals. Kalisia's only album is like a one-track album, you cannot tell when a song finishes and the next one starts. It is very easy to listen to because it feels like one long song.
so i just randomly clicked on this, and i'm not gonna lie...as soon as the dude started singing it brought me to tears. only 6 minutes in now...but this is absolutely incredible. will be hopping on to buy the album tomorrow. thank you for this! just got done listening to the new beyond creation album. gonna have to check out the other bands on this label
The more times you listen to this album, the better it gets. I actually think it has overtaken Citadel as my favourite album which I never thought was possible.
Godlike musicianship and songwritting, something that you don't see often together in metal. This album also seem more romantic classical era oriented than the two previous album.
Huge Romantic period fan and I've only heard the title track so far and can't quite hear how you hear that comparison from that one. Could you pls explain what about it musically makes you think it's more romantic than the previous two? Usually I tend to think a lot about how harmony modulations became a lot more stark and chromatic in that time in compositions. Thankssss
To be honest, i have almost no theory but sound wise, especially when Tim start to sing in the first track it really give me a romantic classical music era vibe. The other two had classical elements in it but more in a song structure aspect, this one seem to have more classical aspects sound wise.
This is ... Interesting metal.... The blend of classical and metal is mind blowing as it fits so we'll together ... I'm amazed truly I mean I've listened to opeth but it's nothing like this fucking sic

There is more beauty in this than I can even comment on. The contrasting melodies that just work so well together, the harsh vocals intertwining the cleans, the moments where you think the music is going to progress in one direction but it pivots and goes complete opposite. Some guy commented a while back calling someone weak for posting a similar comment but these guys really do take you on a journey.

Urn is actually a fairly interesting place for the bassist, since they sadly had to remove their long time bassist a few months before recording. They found a great Dutch bassist called Robin Zielhorst who wrote a lot, with influence from the old bassist. They've since got a new bassist, Martino Garattoni. He also plays in Ancient Bards. It will be very interesting to see what he'll bring to the next album that hopefully will be done at the end of 2019. Martino actually has a lot of different styles, including jazz! As for Caligulas Horse, they'll be touring together next year in Australia!
