Similar thing happened with my partner recently, her laptop died but she was happy to inherit my old pc (4670k @ 4.4GHz, 8GB DDR3, 1060 3GB) as she spends more time on her playstation anyway, now I have a 3600 & 2070 super...

My dad has a better pc than me he flexes it way to much at the dinner table he has a i9 10900k 2 RTX 2080 Ti,s and 64gb of ram and 5tb of storage he got the 2080Tis for free because it was laying around in his office and my dad has a beast pc cuz he plays call of duty black ops with me and he does CAD work and other stuff

Consumer HP laptops are some of the worst. Not only do you have to tear apart the entire laptop to replace the paste and clean the fans, you also have to remove the mainboard because they put it on the underside.
@@XeonProductions Agreed. There is almost nothing redeemable about HP. Some of the worst computers I've had to work on, period. They are basically e-waste machines after 2 years, and their bloatware is atrocious.
my lenovo flex 2 14 has to be the worst design (screen lid opened up and 2 professionals and then me tried to put it back together even with replacement parts and nothing would go together... tape it was until I sacrificed a donor machiene) from lenovo but at least all I had to do to do the paste was to unscrew keyboard, base and fan which compared to my 2013 macbook Pro is a walk in the park. I won't be trying on my 2018 MacBook Pro until I have a replacement as I'm not willing to make a mistake on the most expensive thing I own 😂😂

Best case scenario she can drop the laptop from the terrace and the laptop case will survive. Lets hope that the girl will compromise with a rtx 2060.

To be honest: I have two kids myself and I can't wait for them to be old enough to drag them into the world of pc building. Being able to build and maintenance your own systems is a very rewarding hobby. It only gets frustrating when you don't have any money to spend or have to help your family with every single pc problem :D

On the contrary. That is a dad who teaches her daughter NOT to respect money or hard work. He FIXED her computer. Her laptop as we saw is STILL very good for the things she does on it. Yet he will get a new one. That is spoiling her.
This is BAD parenting. Good would be if he fixed it and showed what was wrong, teach her to use pad under, and got her one.
Every dad proudly says that in reference to his kids. They are the providers after all. I remember when I passed off my "old" PC to my 10 year old son back in 2017 after building a new Ryzen 1800X based system for myself. All he wanted was a PC to watch youtube and play minecraft online. He didnt know jack about what was in the PC and for comparison his "laptop was an old chrome book from his grandma.
I gave him a quick rundown of the system hardware whilst teaching him the basics of using windows 10 vs google chrome. About a week later, he was telling me that his friends thought he was rich because his GPU was a GTX-1080..

I strive to be well off enough to be able to say “that’s my kid so of course they’re going to get a new PC”
I am a lucky person to be able to say that I've always had a new computer when I've needed one. But I also havn't bought any of them myself so I respect the person who bought them by using them until they just will not work (or become so unreliable they cannot be used for educational means unless tinkering educational means)
I'm currently struggling to be able to afford my own PC.

Work towards finding a career based off your love of tech. A lot of I.T jobs can pay quite reasonably. And if you can enjoy your work, then you're in an ideal situation.

@@yamon234 Asus has started using decent paste in some of their 2019 and newer models. But yeah, generally speaking OEM paste means garbage paste + way too much paste. Also mounting pressure is typically pretty low, which might be better for the solder joints, but is certainly worse for thermals.

I remember when I wanted my own computer (I think I was 9), I really wanted to play the PC version of the sims 2 and some free MMO games. My dad brought me a secondhand Toshiba laptop I don't think it lived very long maybe a couple of years, that poor laptop was always getting suffocated by my blankets. Hell, I wish I had a desktop PC. For some reason, my dad didn't want a desktop PC anymore and only brought laptops so the first computer I got myself was an MSI gaming laptop.. it was A CHONKER. I got it in 2014 it lived for 5 years. It started having overheating problems and it eventually fried itself. I didn't know much about computers at the time so I didn't realise it was thermal throttling I just thought it was slow cause it was old. I started learning about computers and hardware in 2019 and fell down the rabbit hole of Tech RUclipsrs. I built my first computer at the beginning of 2020 and I absolutely loved it. I'm totally a tech geek now.
That`s the way ;) but nothing is as good as a solid tower PC on a desk and a laptop as power-saving alternative when computing and watching movies and series in bed.

Welcome to the family. Can't say much, I still have the old AMD K6 CPU from my first (personal) PC, kept that thing running from 1996 to 2006 when it simply could not keep up..
Then went full stupid and build a duel CPU PC from a server motherboard.... I mean it was awesome for the three years I had it, chewed up rendering and 3D modeling but found out the hard way that servers and home systems run a bit differently because it was bad for gaming.... Sadly that got stolen by an ex-room mate and was replaced by an el-cheapo 300$ Bestbuy laptop at the last moment when moving to Florida to take care of my grandparent.
That laptop got me from 2009 till about 2013 and left a burn mark on my grandmother's wood table while I was taking care of them (Running minecraft on lowest settings got it that hot).
At which point two friends teamed up since I had been jobless the whole time to build me a new PC from mostly spar parts. On old first gen i7, a 660TI and 8GB of ram.
2105: That got upgraded to 16GB of RAM and two ASUS 970's after I had moved across the country and gotten a job (grandmother had passed away, Aunt stuck grandfather in a home and sold their place)
2016 (late): Replacing the twin 970's with twin ASUS 1070's, the cheap plastic clasps for the GPU bracket broke. Was forced to literally RIP one of the 970's out taking the port with it.
2017(early): A full rebuild. New Case, new motherboard, new CPU (i7-8700), 32GB of ram and of course the twin ASUS 1070's. (It's the same one being used right now)
And no none of the usable parts went to waste, the case was used to build a room mate a budget gaming PC. Got a new motherboard, he got the old CPU one of the 970's and the RAM.
The other 970 sits in my streaming rig I built so they could stream consoles. I waste nothing!

My parents don't even let me take a part a awful and old calculator (stuff with like 4 parts in total)
Trust me I took apart my laptop once, it was easy. Now the hard part is putting it back together....Granted laptops today are very easy to disassemble and you know, if you record everything you do and have the blueprint/manual of your laptop...not much can go wrong.It's a learning experience.
