His style of playing, the smooth switches and weird chords he used... and getting a sound like that out his hollow bodied Gibson ES-295. Truely an iconic player in my opinion. All of that done with this 'panache'. This will definatly be the end of Killing Joke. Where to find such a unique player again to fill this gap?
Every member of this band is so good. Crazy, weird-sounding reverberated guitar with all kinds of dissonant notes their are perfectly out of place, loud and bouncy, dominant bass guitar, crazy drums with all kinds of sick fills, a crazy, in-a-trance singer who looks and sounds like he's about to summon a demon or something, and well....a keyboard player to fill in the sonic gaps. It's pretty much musical perfection in my opinion. I'm a big fan.
Basically the sound of my late teenage years..Was there ever a cooler guitarist who defined 'heavy' while at the same time making it seem effortless. A genuine unique. RIP Geordie.
This is hands down the most PHENOMENAL thing I've ever seen. These guys are INCOMPARABLE and simply otherworldly in EVERY way, shape, and form. They have NO EQUAL. RIP Raven, you were absolutely amazing.
A great band live! Saw them with Big Black and G Bats! Albini said some wry comment about Coleman’s head being like a potatoe! My parents went on a Greek holiday in the late 80’s and met Coleman, Susan and Tabitha. They said they were a sound bunch!
It's hilarious watching the crowd being scared away at 2:35. The guitar is so abrasive, then you have the pounding drums, super tight bass and singer in a trance. They don't know how to process it!
I've just discovered Killing Joke during the coronavirus lockdown. Theyve instantly become my favorite band. How the f**k have I missed out on them for all these years?
In the U.S., if you didn't watch a lot of Mtv in the mid-eighties, you could easily have missed out on them. Even then, they weren't on heavy rotation. They were probably on the club charts, too.
KJ "biggest" hit commercially, was a love like blood. Otherwise, KJ always stayed under the radar. Definitely a "cult band". Geordie had such a unique sound though. legends for sure!
Hilarious - check out the crowd - slightly at odds with the band - lovely babes and good old frat boys decked out in tennis accoutrements on a hot day and checkin out Jaz Coleman and Killin effin Joke - priceless
many of their 80's albums were recorded in germany. but the incongruity is there ...in the band too, Geordie looks like he should playing in a 'blue-eyed soul' pop band.
@@Epitaphforyesterday people have been waving confederate flags for about a hundred and fifty years. Nobody gave a shit until a bunch of spoiled, entitled little brats started throwing temper tantrums. Grow up and stop being a control freak.
Always fun to watch Jaz scanning the crowd with those switchblade eyes. I feel a lot of his energy has a lot to do with if the crowd is in the zone with him.
Loved KILLING JOKE back in these early days. I saw them in Barrie, Ontario in the early 80's in the middle of the day at an event like this. Jaz also played keyboards on that tour. On a sunny day they pulled off a great set, shocking many who had come to see the Go-Go's and lighter fare. Iggy Pop played a great set too. I love Geordie's guitar being up so high in the mix and the energy these guys injected into a crowd like this. Not so sure everybody appreciated/understood their music. That show made me a KJ fan for life.

I’ve played guitar for over 50 yrs now, my band in those days did Killing Joke covers...ppl had no idea but I do remember during a set the crowd was still singing “ Complication “ . These guys were my second ever gig when I was 15 about 12 years ago. Sad that I won't get to see Geordie again, but all the more legendary now is the experience of having him seen them when I was still so fresh.
I once had a yellow Korg distortion reverb pedal that did this sound sort of, but not quite...Kill1ng Joke is and will always be #1 band of my choice. This line up of mates was insane with the good vibes and talent output.
A shame the sound is over dubbed I've seen them play many times ,I seen them play in Melbourne Australia in early 85 and in London in the late Eighties and every time their gigs were blistering. sorry to hear the loss of Geordie.
