    Your point about the fight scenes is definitely something a lot of fans haven't thought about. 2D just can't do the amount of movement that 3D can. Though as we've already seen, the impact of the movement they can do is emphasized more, so it's a real balance.
    And while I'm sure many of us would like to see the fights animated to a AAA level, they can't just ignore everything else like the originals often did (animations wise at least). The anime would feel wrong with black placeholder crowds and janky walking with stiff movement during the more casual scenes that the originals suffered from.

    • @zaidanhakim4974

    I would also say that my biggest turnoff at the end was the General's sudden descent into megalomaniacal madness. It's one thing to notice that part of your army is abandoning you. It's another entirely to sabotage their efforts which are not even at his expense, to save people that he abandoned. Not only is it spiteful, but he was wasting his own resources in order to make it happen.
    I can at least see how he was being pushed that way: His plans were being constantly questioned and in some cases even interfered with. Even if his plan wasn't the "best", it was attempting to save as many people as possible. By normal expectations, it at least had a chance of working, even if it wasn't the best. Yet it was pretty much taken down by people who disagreed with him, yet themselves had nothing better to offer. In short, disobedience turned a maybe-not-the-best-solution into an unworkable quagmire.

    RWBY was one of those shows I dropped after a few episodes because I just kept getting questions that I felt weren't gonna get answered. The fight scenes and choreography were amazing, but it felt to me like it was written by an 8 year old.
    I pick up this anime adaptation and not only were core questions answered (or left in a way where I could infer an answer) but I get amazing animation quality.
    The ironic thing is that I think it has more to do with sequencing. I believe it's bad to just drop a billion things about worldbuilding and not explain it until multiple seasons later. Maybe after I watch this I'll try redoing the original with a better understanding of the world and the core conflicts going on
    EDIT: so I started rewatching RWBY and it seems that my original watchthrough skipped a ton of content and thus seemed unexplained.

    • @JonathanKayne
      @JonathanKayne 2 года назад +12

      @@buckaroobonsi555 I've watched all of those (except for aot) and they did plenty good job explaining stuff and more importantly explained it in such a way that I could watch without asking a million "what is this" over and over. Stuff that wasn't explained wasn't important stuff. More importantly they don't drop a ton of worldbuilding on you at once. Bleach and MHA explain the premise of the world by the end of episode 1.
      RWBY on the other hand only establishes the concept of Grimm, dust and hunters. There were a bunch of things that I wasn't able to understand at all until I watched the anime adaptation which explains enough for me to not be completely in the dark. Examples: what is a semblance? Why are the people besides Ruby so irrate? Wait, there was a conflict between the producers of dust and a demihuman race?

    • @darkpatriot94
      @darkpatriot94 2 года назад

      @@JonathanKayne "Suff that wasn't explained wasn't important stuff" is quite accurate for RWBY Vol.1+2. The shorter episodes gave less time to explain and sometimes you actually dont want to explain things early to have a higher impact later or to keep up the mystery.
      The examples you gave are quite curious because they were also all explained in Vol.1 and expanded upon later.
      I am not sure what you want from "the premise of the world" because you said it. You have Dust which is your magic system and technology driver. You have an antagonist in the Grimm and the protectors of humans/faunus with the huntsmen. And most importantly you have 4 badass girls that can 1 vs many (ok, Weiss did a 1vs1 but against something like a boss) (hinting at the 4 trailers).
      The anime can explain some things earlier to maybe make a more coherent story because it can draw upon 9 volumes of RWBY. But it also skipped some important parts.
      We will see how the anime compares but i think it goes into a quite different direction.
      If you want more worldbuilding there is a series called "RWBY: Worlds of Remnant" which is lore that didnt fit into the main volumes. It aired between vol.2 and 4 iirc.

    There is 2 things i disliked about this anime version: the first it the pacing: Aside from episode 1, the anime seems rushed and with a lot of cut content, to the point of some fights ad character interactions being completely skipped, i bet they made this to go as quickly as possible to the original, but i don't like it, because to me it seems they were counting on us already knowing the show.
    The second is that as things are now we all know this anime is probably not going to continue after this original story is done, so yeah, there will be no alternate story, only a "filler" arc, which is sad since a lot of people were expecting the anime to be a retelling but without going downhill like the original have gone.

She outed the fact that at least one of the other voice actresses slept her way into her position (most likely Arryn Zech, Blake's VA, because she was dating Miles Luna at the time) and got terminated for that. Her character, Glynda, immediately disappeared from the franchise after the third season. Wonder how they'll recast her for this anime's dub...

    What I do know was changed in Ice Queendom compared to the original are the characters actually. Maybe because I read the official manga that was on Viz that only lasted to the contents of volume 2, but its' direction it took was more defined and not as lighthearted compared to the main series. Ice Queendom took the not so lighthearted elements the characters had in the official manga and mixed it with its' own take on the events in the main series in volume 1.
    Some highlights would be when Weiss and Ruby were stuck with each other in the forest. Ruby used some really strong words on Weiss meaning she isn't as childish and immature even though that isn't too much of a problem as she's meant to be younger than the others. Jeanne being a bit more confident with his skills and people at first glance. Yang actually given a talk from Tai about spoiling Ruby too much which she acknowledges later when Weiss calls her out on regarding Ruby's behavior. Professor Port's words to Weiss regarding why she wasn't selected as leader was not as detailed but I think it was straight to the point where it didn't need to be. Same for Ozpin's words he spoke to Ruby although I do wish he didn't mention the silver eyes bit when he first meets her. In the official manga, Ozpin asks Ruby a serious question regarding what kind of Huntsmen Ruby wishes to be which stayed with Ruby for a while. I really do miss the Official RWBY manga on VIZ do I and I wish it didn't stop at the end of volume 2 content like it did and went on with whatever direction it took with its' major changes. The first episode integrated the introduction shorts of all four characters neatly albeit we don't get Ruby fighting a pack of Beowulfs and Yang's bar fight but then those didn't fit the season. Still it sucks the fight against the White Fang and Torchwick at the docks had to be cut out due to time constraints. The devs wanted to get to the bigger content as quickly as possible so I don't blame them for rushing the story. Even if it was rushed I like the changes made to a high degree.
    We shall see this Sunday how team RWBY will deal with the Nightmare Grimm that is haunting Weiss and how powerful a Nightmare can be when a trained Schnee is its' host. Zaiden Shion looks like your classic mix of a witch and an exorcist who has specialized in nightmare hunting. Because how this will be handled will determine how well this full anime original take on RWBY will go.

    I'm really happy that it got a remake. Now, it's actually what it always wanted to be: an anime...
    I acknowledge that they had to change a few things. The original episodes were very short and only later on it became the 20mins we are used to. Also, while the graphics improved, the storytelling, directing, and fight choreography got worse over time. I assume that it had to do with the death of Monty Oum and internal fights in the studio.
    However, I'm sad that they changed the character introduction. I loved how Ruby bumped into Weiss and inhaled some of the scattered dust and got scolded and in turn, Blake roasted Weiss... I think it was a bad idea to immediately tell Blake's backstory, as it was essentially a spoiler (it nearly took an entire season to reveal the truth and was only foreshadowed). Similarly, Weiss was introduced by Blake's roast and not by seeing her at home. We only learned later about how dysfunctional her life actually was (note that she moved to a different continent and that her older sister joined the military to get some distance! Also, their mother is an alcoholic). Also, while I was happy to see Roman again, he was cooler in the original (his mocking in a friendly tone and overall smoothness). Similarly, if I remember correctly, Cinder was originally introduced not as the pilot, but as fighting Ruby. It also made more sense in the original, as the first exam only occurred after they arrived and it was only hinted at that Jaune was an impostor (he's not trained as a hunter and thus oblivious to many things).
    I found it a pleasant surprise though that a new character, a new grim, and a new problem got introduced.
    I hope that this show gives Cinder a chance at being the villain she was supposed to be (I loved her up to the point where her first major plan succeeded, but she got injured, then the original strayed from the original character and made her dumb and an emo-kid),
    Lastly: that massive death flag was so unnecessary. New watchers shouldn't be warned of what will happen at the end of the season. It really came as a surprise to me and it was a massive shift in tone.

It's mainly the parts that people like me loved most about the original where the adaptation falls behind, that being the smooth fight scenes that were only possible because the the 3D animation and Monty's skill, set to Jeff William's score and Casey's vocals. I ironically started rewatching RWBY last week. Randomly searched for it on Crunchyroll and found it. Before I had only gotten through season 5 since that was all that was available at the time and I forgot all about it. So now I'm a few episodes into season 8. With only the few clips I have seen from Ice Queendom I have to say the art is far to removed from RWBY for me to enjoy it. And to be frank if they couldn't do the fight scenes fully to what the original was they should never have tried to remake it. I'm fine with them expanding the story but walking all over the original with the excuse that "we can't do that" well don't. One final point the removal of the quirky humor that is sprinkled through it is dangerous. RWBY starts out fun but quickly grows darker and darker as the forces against them quickly stack victory after victory that humor is needed to keep things balanced.

Since I only hype on the fight scenes and never really care about the story, I might pass with RWBY IQ. Although I really hope they started working on the choreography more than giving the cool effects like any other anime earlier, otherwise I feel like it would just drown among new animes in general. Atleast make it standout and defines its own charm to make it memorable like the original one

Ep. 1-3 which has been rereleased are just supposed to summarize the canon story to the point where the Ice Queendom story starts off from, which is why they are very rushed

Even though the series would benefit from a remake in Monty’s og vision with some of the og story beats his wife and close friends wanted to work on before they were pushed out. That’s not whats happening here. It’s not gonna go through Vol 1 all the way to 8. It’s a new story that I believe they’ll use characters or concepts from in the future since “canon adjacent” just means it’s not canon until we say it is, though it technically is canon
