@@FishingInWales my son and I are members of Abergwili. Nice to see lure fishing for trout in Wales getting more exposure. The LRF approach to sea, lake and rivers in my view the best way to get kids into fishing. Light and Short 6-7ft rods are easy for young kids to control - whether catching mackerel on jigs off new quay pier or 2lb rainbows from the Usk Res.
This is exactly what I was thinking. No2 black fury meps or silver with black spots. Also the long blade anglia no2 silver or gold. No need to spend a fortune on lures although I have close to 50 myself 😅😅
@@captainflint89 indeed, Charlie is flying the flag for doing it right, using single hooks and netting the fish, retaining them in the water with minimal damage as a result.
Many of the West and North Wales angling clubs allow spinning for trout, on rivers that are often small and overgrown, so fly casting is difficult. A video like this provides guidance for those wishing to try lure fishing, a very enjoyable form of fishing, and as you can see, no treble hooks and no damaged fish in the video thanks to great fish handling.
Matching the hatch is doing it right! Nothing more rewarding than catching on a dry fly or a nymph. Where I'm from in South wales spinning or lures are not allowed on the rivers. We still get poachers using them tho
@@rodgie84 preaching to the converted mate , i am a dry fly freak and i have fly fished since i was a boy although we ALL started with maggot and worm , spinning with trebles and ripping the mouth and gills of more than one parr , with or without permission to be on the water. some anglers are disabled or have pain that prevents fly fishing and others just enjoy the simplicity of lures. with regards to "matching the hatch" just because there is some fish rising to olives does not mean that the old wily 8lb brown that eats minnows and smaller trout is going to take your size 14 cast upstream to perfection. it will perhaps be fooled into an aggressive strike by a lure or streamer and i have witnessed this on a few occasions . that being said , i have had larger fish on dries and nymphs but lures often get the bigger and more aggressive fish
Fantastic looking river. Looks like a gorgeous place to fish.
That was a great piece of film Charlie, well done 👍🏼 keep it up, tight lines 🎣
Great watch, Amazing C&R. Top Angling
Enjoyed that, Charlie’s a natural in front of the camera!! Lovely looking river too 👍
I agree, it’s refreshing to see lure fishing done in the correct way, looking forward to seeing more of him on this great channel 🎣
Cracking rivers and fishing Charlie, I might try that section in August when we’re at Amroth for a couple of weeks 👍
Class, quality angling and a great watch!
Great video and a lovely stretch of water.
Thank you! It is a lovely stretch of river, great access and easy wading too.

Great watch! Lovely river. 🎣
Great video beautiful river lovely fish ❤❤
Winding in super fast give the fish a chance 😮
You cant reel faster than a fish can swim.🤣 Sometimes they want that speed.
You'd of had one 1st cast on a little mepps spinner.

Seeing a man on a river with a spinning rod is a big no no for me. Get the fly rod out you catch alot more
some just dont fly fish , nothing wrong with lures as long as there is single hooks instead of trebles
