best to tighten the inner cover nuts more evenly rather than first nut being torqued right up.

I am due to take my gbox end cover off tomorrow to try and fix the poor gear changing I am experiencing after and 'expert' rebuild. From what I have read I think I need to adjust the bend in the hairpin spring. This vid is appreciated but a little more commentary would have been helpful.

Dick- i am a huge fan of your work especially the way you showed in one of the Video how to set a BURMAN clutch- I felt you could had a bit elaborated this gearbox rebuild to, there are NUTS like me Dick who cannot understand a word from the Service manual until saviours like you come to risk- by the way how much torque did you apply on the Wrench for tightening those studs?

Hi Rahul: In very general studs, machine screws, and bolts are all much alike and for most applications, all use roughly the same torque values. Spend a few minute and go find torque tables for "Imperial" sized fasteners (1/4, 5/16, 3/8 inch grade 5) and Metric sizes (M6, M8, M10 Property Class 8.8). These are the most common sizes and 'strength' fasteners used on cars and bikes. When you do not know a specific torque value, or the component manufacturer has NOT provided a specific torque value, then look at the values on your two tables.. Metric or Imperial and use those value with great confidence that nothing will break. This is far better than guessing.

Dick which sealant was it that you used as a gasket for your gearbox- i know it was Permatix but can you specify which serial number of that product

Hi Rahul: thank you for your kind comments and watching my videos. I favor using Anaerobic gasket makers and not using paper gaskets most of the time. My preference is Loctite 518 Form a Gasket or Permatex 51813. Grab a technical catalog from either Loctite or Peermatex and keep it handy. One of the things I learned long ago is how using "Primer" with Loctite or Permatex "Surface Prep Activator" for anaerobic products will greatly decrease 'cure time', or improve the strength of a bond, or improve the size of the gap that can be sealed. Go look up Permatex Surface Prep 24163. A small aerosol can will last many years.
