I love these - thanks for uploading them!
amazing,Andy's studio looks inspiring and functional at the same time... excellent interview
Andy Gray, you are my hero. Love your work...awesome to see doing your thing.
This video is filled with so much good stuff. Andy has really created something amazing
totally love the Spitfire Cribs Series!. keep it up Guys!.
instablaster
Lovely to see somebody so talented, who is so down to earth and hard working and not a 'businessman'...
This guy's a total dude! Super keen about his workflow and set-up after 31 years!
great video! I love the studio set up and soft piano and particularly all those display monitors!
Andy...what a great and wise man you are! Cheers, love the vid!
i love this serie keep it up so much information shared
Loved this. and the last few mins advice is invaluable.
OMG! Andy Gray... we need you back into trance. Your remixes are legendary man!
Makes me love my Logic even more , very cool video! thanks for this!
What a really sound interview and hats off to you guys for taking us into these spaces for an honest look inside the can, as it were, at the process, chaos and set ups that different creators use to get those ideas out. The ever evolving journey, that we’re all on is fascinating, at whatever stage and in whatever genre. 👍 Ps know this is 5 years ago but, have found the Apollo twin x quad a great way to have volume control, etc whilst stacking the DSP and keeping the desktop spaces as clear as possible to fit our most needed bits within arms reach as we grow.
Gut wrenching to watch after watching the winter warmer
Easily my favorite cribs episode, I keep coming back to this when I'm thinking of workflow ideas
true
Superb video and what a fantastic setup Andy has. A few Spinal Tap moments thrown in too.
Excellent documentary... Loved the Gary Numan bit too, and the vintage synths.
Only just caught up with this one - Not sure how I missed it, but, Andy Gray; what a top bloke!
thx for the great video!
I love the question you ask at the end of these videos
Really interesting. Pretty new to being a full time composer and sound designer so these are really inspiring!
really informative...great work of wisdom esp at the end regarding the business side of things
Can’t believe I’ve not seen this before ,excellent!
That was ACE! Some proper tech nerdery and DAW rigging tips.
I like how he did the folding sound both, great idea.
Binge watching the cribs series :D So interesting!
I love the organic vibe around here
I like this even more than MTV Cribs... what an amazing space to be in
this is a lot more than a crib tour -- love it.
Killer studio area, looks like a converted church. I would love a space like that.
Excellent DATA share 🎺✨🙏 ... specifically the statement approach it as a business interesting extremely useful data thank you very much
Cool setup
😲 Aww man! He totally ignored the Korg Z1! That's a really cool classic keyboard!
Awesome
That guy has blown my mind
The only thing I don't like about this series is that I didn't know it existed until now! I'm about to binge. It's helping me with my huge studio purcase I'm about to do.
Superb
Wow! Quadro is awesome!
did you tested it? I was asked to "JOIN FREE FOR 14"with no explanation given... what is JOIN FREE?
I always tell myself I'm probably not gonna finish these hour long episodes in one sitting since I was planning to do something else.... 8 episodes and half a day later I'm picking my jaw off the floor from all this gear porn. And most of these guys seem like awesome people too!
21:40 That's called a RAID and it's a MUST if you don't want to lose any important data, especially on disks running more or less 24/7!
Looking to add a touch screen monitor to my workflow. What model dell is he using here? Want to make sure I can get the proper drivers before making purchase.
Would love you to update these videos with social media links for featured artists. For example would love to follow Andy
Another very useful video, thanks. Did you change the buffer size between recording and playback?
Filming in front of a light source is like Oktoberfest with non alcoholic beer.
RIP STUDIO 💔
What was that iPad app that launched RUclips on the Mac etc?
He's hitting/playing all these keyboards and talking about how great they sound... and the mixer or amp aren't up/on.
It's like a Nigel Tufnel moment...
Andy: "just listen to that sound !!"
Me: "I don't hear anything"
Andy: "well.. you would if it were on"
I was going to make the same point but you sum it up perfectly!!
30:56 I have an apollo 8 and wonder about using a little duo as a monitor controller. Would also expand virtual inputs which I use sometimes for music. Anyone else?
Loved that one! A very insightful Cribs episode there :) Would really like to know what the app is though ;)
What model dell touchscreen is he using? looks like it works better than the acer t272hl.
Can someone explain a bit more about that Roland keyboard...really from a System 700?
Question! If you are using the Apollo interfaces as soundcards, are you using the S3 as just a DAW controller?
Cause if it sound as good it makes what is coming sound better and easier
does anyone know the app on the iPad that Andy has his macros programmed on? thanks 🙂
How is the performance of that touchscreen? It looks decent, is there any lag of any kind? I have an iPad I'm using as an additional screen but the touch aspect has significant lag. Can you do realtime fades etc? (ie. not just drawing automation). Thanks! Felix
like this series a lot! Andy, if you are reading this, you should really give Cubase a try. Track Management is amazing - especially for a large count of track numbers. Have been a Logic User for almost 10 years and made the switch two years ago.
tiscover I'm just about to get my studio set up again. I was thinking of dumping Logic (aka illogic!) for Cubase. Think I might just do that now. Cheers!
If you guys are ever in Australia, one of these creative cribs with Mick Gordon would be phenomenal.
Yesss
Can some one explain, if Andy is using the Apollo as an interface, is the S3 just used as a control surface?
great studio and great video!! :D I wonder if you (Andy) know that Logic have a app called ''Logic Remote''? It is free and have a lot of great features.
All the best
Rune
An introduction to the artist and their work in beginning of the episode would be awesome :) I don´t actually know who half of these people are and start to google.
theAPP called " Quadro" !!
A great insight in the studio and Andy's workflow process ..also a big thank you to all inc the lady behind the camera.
what was the name of the free ipad app
I want to know the name of the app too.
i want to know too please
it is not free, it's only 14 days free... (why am I not surprised?)
What is the name of that app. Why is it a mystery?
Aaron Macri logic remote or logic control
I'm guessing you could do what he's done here with a couple of grand. These guys go over the top.
Yes you could, but you wouldn't hear it... you can only hear audio details with good audio gear... we think we hear stuff until we are confronted with audio comming from GREAT speakers, great clock and great channels... it's a life changing experience...
SEABOARD!!!!
Roli ROCKS!!!!!
I have watched a few of these now and love them. My only problem is there is always a lot of "this" and "that" when referencing gear but no one states exactly what "this" or "that" actually is and you are left to try and interpret the item from afar. I'd appreciate it if you could consciously try to let us know in future videos? Keep up the great work!
They literally tell you the mic, and the technique for much of their gear. The actual gear doesn’t really matter especially when you can hear any of what they’re doing anyways, you don’t even know if it’s good
My RSI went away by adopting a M$ Natural keyboard (the old bulgy version) and a Wacom graphics tablet.
Great talk! What exactly was the function for this "soft piano" i did not get it. Is it a new plugin withing logic? Thanks in advance :)
It's the Hans Zimmer Piano from Spitfire Audio www.spitfireaudio.com/shop/instruments/pianos-and-keys/hans-zimmer-piano/
their felt pianos changed my life...
How does that 'spot to stack work' ? I use audiofinder and spotting to Logic just chucks whatever file/selection I'm working on to the playhead. This seemed to spot multiple files, in the correct order, to their respective smpte locations... Is it something you've set up in Quadro? Great timesaver!
Yeah it must be based on how he is titling his files I'd imagine. Most composers are including timecode in the filename anyways... what's amazing to me is that it knows how to throw it into his pre-created stacks rather than just creating new tracks, etc.
do those amps go to 11? do they? can you touch any of this equipment?
Such decent people
What is the free app you talked about? Thx.
Great vid chaps - thank you! Didn't quite catch the make of the hot swappable drive bays above the Apollo. I think one of you said it quickly. Can you let me know pls? Cheers.
Tom Ryan think it's the Blackmagic Design SSD Dock
BlackMagic MultiDock 2 w/Thunderbolt B&H Photo carries them as well as Amazon, about $595.00 without SSD Drives
Of course theres the LUST factor boiling up inside......but it would be nice if he said THIS JUPITER 4....or The Avid S3 Controller is great for logic and protools. i had not seen the S3. so i had NO IDEA what it was. but it was nice to get a peek into his CRIB.
Great Video..What's the name of the ultra wide monitor?
seems It's a dell U3417w Ultrawide 34", not shure
What are the rackmount hard drive enclosures called? I'm looking for something like that.
blackmagic multidock
Andy is a lovely guy, got drunk with him lol
Is This The andy grey That Is amoeba assasin That made The massive hit pile driver with steve sacre?
damn... i wish i could afford to look that stoned.. i mean all that equipment
What, touch screen with Logic?
DOOOD!
play it...!!!
At 20.20 he talks about the Blackmagic and his drives but I don't understand how this works. I've just upgraded my set up by setting two 2tb ssds and on raid 0 in a Blackmagic multi dock. This has made the speed of this around 700mbps and is solely for Kontakt libraries and I have used around 1tb. my iMac is a i7 4.1 GHz processor, quad-core and has 32gb of ram. This should be able to handle Kontakt and projects of at least 100 tracks BUT even when setting up template sessions of around 200 tracks, with all samples purged, it crashes constantly. (these sessions are not to compose in but to drag in Kontakt patches set up for workflow. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can improve performance? Thanks in advance!
It's faster because it's two pipes going out. Striping it means 1/2 of the stream goes on one disk, 1/2 on the other.
It would help if you listed the equipment or APP, there is a lot of good info here but only mention 'this is a great app' What is the name ??? same with the Microphone at the start. ' love this Mike from #$#, what is it? and what model is it?? I would like the info. tks.
Sontronics Halo guitar amplifier microphone
That is how like to work I do every thing to sound good from the beginning
I was hoping he would talk about the M-Audio Venom and tell me something magical about it that I missed on mine so I could dust it off and plug it in.
The 'expensive' volume knob is two units, the monitor st and sr here dangerousmusic.com
Spitfire Audio
someone should tell Andy about Slate Raven mti2 monitors... seems like he would really benefit from a dual raven system...
Does anyone know if bouncing stems like the way he says can include reverb on busses? Normally when bouncing in the way Andy says will bounce dry stems right? (ie. no fx included from busses). It's at around 46:00.
As each stack has its own delay/reverb etc they are printed
Much appreciated! Thx Andy!
Hmm...not sure I understand this. Does each stack have a master delay/reverb? And then everything in the stack goes to the same amount of reverb/delay? What about mastering plugs on the stereo bus? Are these stacks audio only or a mix of audio and AU synths? I'm so excited about this if it actually works the way I would like it to.
what's the band he mentioned at 14:14 ?
What’s the name of the TV show he was scoring?
great video..
where is studio in Edinburgh?
Arreton, Isle of Wight
Does anybody happen to know what the free app he is using on his iPad is?
What iPad app is he talking about at 41:42?
"I've got loads of wood here, I'm gonna touch it"
.........
I'm dead
Sorry got it!
Andy, what's the name of the free app, and is it iPad compatible. BTW- great interview.
Same question ^^
@@marsoctobremusic1248 I think he had his hands on AudioFinder when he mentioned 'free', but that's definitely not free
Damo Diggler Audiofinder doesn’t seem to have a dedicated iPad app from what I can tell. The free iPad app is something else I think. I’d like to know what that is. Totally just bought audiofinder though. I’ve been using audioease Snapper for years but I’m hoping audiofinder will be even better. Snapper has served well over the years but audiofinder is looking like a step up. Still would like to know what the iPad app is that’s clocking everything on his Macs. That looks like a real time saver.
@@Grummycanader did you find it? Would love to know the app
5 years later and we still don’t know what app it is…
Sontronics are great mics
Swiss army knife of a guy 👍🏻
At what point will too much tech be too much for music production?
