So she owns a body shop and is friends with previous owner? So prior owner left car at her shop. She put a lean on it and waited for courts to give her ownership. Then her and previous owner get to keep car and then flip it for its value. If I'm getting all this right
Yeah they finance the car, then body shop/mechanic shop put a lien on it for substantial amount, that the original lien holder just signs it over versus paying the lien off. Then they sue the original owner but the car is now lien free and able to be turned into cash. They keep title in body shop name to avoid sales tax by putting in own name. They would have taken 45 50ish, no less. Not stolen or anything and it's a civil matter in the eyes of the law. She should have left previous owner at home, said I own my own shop and we just recieved title and now wish to sell, that's normal and no red flags or alarm bells.
