I put a 24 foot above ground pool in last year, this is the video of that build. Video of actual build starts at 5:27 and tips are at end of video
I am left wondering one thing.......Who are all the people that disliked this informative, real life helpful video? Pool installers? Thanks for the help Burbbilly!!!
My husband did our huge oval above ground pool all by himself just about like you did! He used our small tractor mower and he made his own tools as you had the real things. I can’t remember how long it took him, but he did it on days off and during days he worked nights. We had many years of fun in it! Our son was about three and I was on bedrest from hurting my back from working as we had just months earlier moved in our new home and had to do all the unpacking and helping where I could with new lawn and privacy fence before I hurt my back. The pool lasted until our son was about 19 and working and having his own life. We sold it about the time it needed a new liner. Great video. Lot of hard work.
Ty for being positive and remembering the good that came from it.
Ok so, 10 months ago, It never happened. However, It's up, done and fully operational now. Thanks to your tips, on leveling, the pre-made pool cove, the extra hands and all that juju, my family and I get to enjoy the summer of 2022 in our new pool. Thank you so much, Burbbilly!
I tried for 4 hours to put the wall in the track yesterday. U made that look easy. Im gonna take another stab at it today
I've been running seasonal (intex type) pools for eight years and am upgrading to a hard side pool this year. This is a good review of what to expect. Thanks.
i was waiting for the 30 second clip of the man and woman appearing to be yelling at each other and then they walk away and a company takes over, days later.... dang yall are a good couple and work together well! LOL!!!
Our set up had a little of that anger in it!!!
Omg that was my husband and me
And us too. Gave up and hired someone. Not worth it
I just saw a video tip about sticking your wet vac between the skimmer hole and the liner. Duct tape around the skimmer hole and leave the vacuum running until you get a few inches of water in there and it really helped with the wrinkles in the liner. I'll put that to use with some of your tips. I'm feeling a little better about doing this ourselves! Thanks for the video
Love the clamp rope & stake idea to hold the sides up until the uprights are installed...., brilliant!
Yes, I wish I had seen this before we put ours up. We had a real family day working together, I felt useless trying to hold the walls up. Ours is a 27 ft round and we actually needed more than four people. We just replaced the liner last week and had five people, it was much more smooth the second time than the first but we are still together!!!
21 years ago we put up a 21x53 ft steel walled pool in our backyard. Our pool held up great until it was hit by a falling tree during a storm last fall. Thankfully only the top rail and wall saw damage, no water loss. Yes the pool was a loss, but covered by homeowners insurance. We used masonry sand for the floor and cove the first time, and will be using it again. The pool salesman said the stick-on cove doesn’t always stick like it should. This can create air pockets between the wall and cove which is bad news. Sometimes sweat and attention to detail will save you in the end. I hope you have many seasons of fun in your pool. Thanks for the video.
I’m an above ground pool installer and this guy did took the long way on this project but he did it just perfect.
I’ve been building above ground swimming pools for 35 years that dude did everything backwards. To give the guy credit it didn’t look bad when it was done
@@rick4fortyfive why don’t you make a video and show us the right way????
@@marcelobeas3867calm tf down he said he did it perfect
I’ve been offered a job to do this for someone I have no idea what to quote this at, yard needs some leveling as well. Any help on what to charge
I need my pool installed. lol what state are you in?
"oh my sweet Jesus, Lord in heaven." ha ha.
Bro that is how I feel right now. I'm two weeks in to clearing sod, leveling adding sand etc. About to add padding today lord willing the pool will go up this weekend.
Great, help tips! Bless you (and your family) for doing such a great job installing the pool. I hope your children appreciate you for all the hard work... Hope you all are enjoying the pool.
I’ve been putting my pool up all week and took a lot of your advice and it has helped me out tremendously! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing--you are definitely "can do" all the way. I was considering buying a buddy's 27' pool but you've given me pause!
Nice work. You don't take shortcuts :-) You should have ended with a shot of everyone relaxing in the pool, enjoying your work!
Common sense lol
Great video and very helpful.
I'll be installing an 18ft round this season .
Nice video, My grandson and I are going to replace our pool liner only. Thank You for showing us how!
Awesome pool. It took me 2 weeks by myself to put up an 18 Round pool. Most of that was prep work. I did my pool a bit different. Same principal with the bottom cloth. I did one better and used Roofing tar paper, then 6 mil plastic, then a bottom cushion. The sides I did with an insulator sheet and also used pool cove for around the bottom. Absolutely nothing grew under that pool. I extended the roofing paper and plastic about a foot past the pool and used rocks for decoration. Well worth the time it took me. Your pool looks fantastic and loved the idea with the clips once you got it in the track....I will try this on my next go round.
Sarah Mangone I do them for a living we do 3 a day
My husband and i are about to attempt to install an 18 foot. Our instructions say not to use roofing tar paper underneath or it would void the warranty. I can’t imagine why unless the tar paper might chemically beak down the liner? But I thought the tar paper was a fantastic idea. Thanks😊

How great your family helped and your children got to see how building something goes.

How many will fuck up their pool, wallet and yard thinking they can do this? Haha
@@doms.6701 I know i tried to setup a BS intex pool and returned it. Im getting mine done professionally
Oh, sweet Jesus, I am a 63 year old single man and I was going to buy a pool from Costco
this morning, what a HUGE mistake that would have been, I can not thank you enough.
Great video, about to start digging and leveling for my pool now.
Just got a pool like this from an aquintance that didn't use it anymore. Waiting until the end of season to take down the intex one we have now. Will def be watching this again in the spring when it's time to put up the new ( to us) pool
When i put up my pool I used the prefab foam coves and discovered they did not make them large enough to allow for compression after the weight of the water pushes down on them.I think you will be happier with your sand cove being larger than the foam and creating a nicer corner.
I was thinking I made a mistake when I was building it, took a bit of time to get it right and I didn't know if I had my sand mix right but everything is holding up fine now. Appreciate the post/info
And this is the reason professionals exist😆 I would gladly pay one for this one. Sometimes in life you just have to know your limits🤓
Tip for anyone installing their own pool. Put in a bottom drain. It will save you on chemicals and time cleaning. Glad we did.
hahaha, "Excellent" video. I wish many other youtubers understood about video making in similar mind, well done and thank you. super helpful!
Started mine today. ..that means I. Currently unpacking it and laying out the perimeter in the rain. Great video
Thanks for taking the time to make this. I almost committed myself to a pool install. I have a bad back and heart and a job like this could have killed me. Your a lifesaver!
Were doing it now and everything was off. Now we have to fix every block. Has to be moved a half inch all the way around
You're welcome! :)
@2Ryled ... Sorry to hear that
@@burbbilly actually it was worse. We put the top rails on the bottom and the bottom rails on the top. Had to go back and fix it. Lol. Nothing lined up. Directions not that clear.
Nice my friend! Jeeze I've done 3 of these things 16x32's and each time my wife thinks its so easy.. The last one was dug in 3 ft deep.. Now I am in Mississippi and the friggin clay soil is so sketchy I'm not sure what to do.. But I got a 18'ft round box ready to install. trying to level the ground now. Thanks for the inspiration ! DMAX motion Sim
Man I'm building the 18' version if this same pool, and based off what your liner looked like during the process of adding water to the pool, I am convinced that they sent me a liner for a bigger pool.. I've got way more liner than whats needed
It's an overlap liner probably covers 48 to 52 inch wall. Just go over wall and cut excess off after it's full. Also if you use a shop vac to suck liner down is helpful.
Great video. I was thinking of doing our pool myself BUT then I watched a few videos and NOT DOING IT. Lol. I got a 33 X 54 round pool for my b-day in April. They are coming on July 9th for the installation. The sand and the post pavers all all provided by them for a total $ 2800.00. I am just happy the professionals are doing it. I must say the other reason was the warranty.
I hear you and you probably made a good choice. There were a few times during my build when I would say to myself, now why didn't I just have someone put this in????
The Burb Billy I still say you did a great job so be proud.
White people spend so much money for no reason a pool like this can cost you 200-800 and just for a set up is 1k-2k
Just set it up ur self
Thanks for the tips and sharing this video. Hope you guys are enjoying all the hard work you guys did.✌
Thank you much! I am about to start this same project and your tips and insights are very helpful.
Best video! Appreciate all your honesty and advice
Great video. Helpful.
thanks for doing this video👍
Thanks for the hooking up the filter shot from across the street. Lol. A guy who reads instructions . Un real
You need to pay attention to what says and pay attention to the video. He was clear and spot on. I could add a few tips, but won't. I do these pools maybe 25 a year? Good job, good video. Thanks
Thanks Joe
True lol I do the same but in ground lol and above ground pool are fun to do with ur family , memories of ur family putting pools together how awesome
Great Tips. Thank you for sharing. Just wish you had included how you hooked up the pump, filter and electricity.
instablaster.
great job Burbbilly!
Thank you for this video. It gave me very realistic expectations and helped save me time with leveling for sure.
You're welcome! I'm glad it helped you out
This looks like a nightmare to build 😭 ughf. Good job!
Awesome Vid! I really like the stake, strings, and clamps, idea to keep the wall up! Ours kept falling over pain in the ass today it was windy
Great details!!
Serious project there. Good job.
Thanks for sharing...
I almost bought myself a pool, then I watched this. Thanks
😂 I should have done what you did, i bought the pool today and now I'm here😔
We ordered a pool to be installed but they are taking so long that we are here deciding if we could do it ourselves. Watching the video was painless. lol Actually doing it might feel different. lol
@jwathas Can I ask who you contacted to put it up for you and what was the cost of them putting it up?
jwathas it’s not even hard to set up and paying 1700 is a joke with that money you can pay for half of a under ground pool lmao
I was just about to say the same thing hahaha
Great tips, thanks! We are installing one now, appreciate the video.
the 120 people who disliked the video, has no humor like this guy.
Thanks so much for the video.
Helpful and to the point. Thank you.
Do you have any idea what is "deep seal trap" required by the city? They said it must be done prior to installation of the pool.
I knew you were the guy to watch when I seen you lay down halfway through. that’s how I work
That first 40 seconds cracked me UP!!
Craigsclocks: Did the 2800.00 include the pool and the setting up of the pool or just the setting up of the pool?
Great video! I just think this is above my skill level. Been working on the ground leveling. Think I'll have to hire someone.
U work very hard
Damn that's a lot of work, I'm going to return the pool lol
Lmao
I’ll install it for you 😂
Thanks for the nice video.
You deserve more subs after this
Thanks for the video! What brand is your pool and is it all steel or a hybrid? The choices are a little overwhelming. Lastly, what are the pros and cons to a hard shell pool vs soft like a top of the line Intex with steel supports? Thanks!!
I have a link for my pool in my amazon store www.amazon.com/shop/theburbbilly I have not used a top of the line intex with soft sides and steel supports. I used the basic soft side pools and found them to be a pain when it came to storage. Then you have to set them up again in the spring. Another pain. I like the pool I have and we are now going into our third season with it.
Question.. first pool install. Had backhoe and sand delivered, made a level pad, now after building level pad with Mason sand an equipment leaves and all sand is used I find out I need to set patio blocks down to set frame on and then bring in the sand to level and make cove? Can I just put the blocks down, add the coves and call it done now or does the pool bottom need to come up some?
About time you put out another video! Keep up the good work. If you don't mind me asking what software are you using for editing? I'm struggling in that area with my videos.
Lol Put 2 up tonight to try and make up for lost time :-) I use Sony Movie Studio, it's the stripped down version of Sony Vegas I think, if I remember right I paid $50 for it and downloaded off the website and started using it right away. It's got some complicated stuff on it, I use about 1/1000 of what it can do on my videos.
The Burb Billy thanks!
I'm sure this is somewhere in the comments, but how many hours did this take?
Did you bond your pool? My installers years back never did, so I ended up doing it myself for safety.
I've watched your video several times and it was a great help. Now that I am filling my pool, my metal top track has popped up loose in once section and I cannot get it to stay down. Any advice?
Thanks so much
You're welcome :)
excited to do this at my house :)))
What pool did you buy? Did it come with everything you need?
Hey please reply!!!!!!! My pool liner will be here in a few hours and I have to get it done.
How did you do the sand wedge?
And tips on the liner in the sun to stretch it out??
Any tips at all
Can you tell me how you made the clips that held the pool in the round position?
Sarah Mangone those clips are clamps that you can buy at Lowe’s or Home Depot, they are like giant metal clothes pins. Some rope and tent stakes.
what did you spread around the stones and then spray down at the beginning of the video before the sand?
I was spraying water
Question: help me understand the block setting: did you recommend setting the blocks BEFORE the bottom rail ? or set the rail and then add the block like I have seen on other videos?
The rail can go down first, but only to identify where the blocks will be placed. Then the blocks go down, and must be completely leveled. After leveling the blocks, put the rail back on (we traced the bottom plates on the stone with chalk).
Can you build without using bricks
@@sherrireynolds3605 not a good idea because it needs the block foundation
Agree with @@labethhoekstra3630.Use the pavers.
@@sherrireynolds3605 no it makes the pool stable. We put blocks down first, then level them
Where could i buy this? And how much?
Did you post the a link to those pkadtic or foam pieces you recommended for the curve or whatever?
You can get those Coves at almost any pool store or online like amazon, just tell them size of pool and they will tell you how many pieces u need, I did the same and it took me 5 mins to install, well worth it instead of sand..trust me.
Where did you purchase the pool liner pad from? Was it any good? Quality??
Great video - like making a giant pizza... (at least up until the liner..)
Wife is a hard worker! a dream team
She really is....thanks for the nice comment :)
My ground is 4 feet out of level! I've been running my tractor for 3 days now to get it level. I'm tired and I want to swim.
I feel your pain. I hope you are swimming now!
@@sagemorton9960 we are! It was a lot of work, but it's worth it.
Where did you buy the pool? I’ve been considering buying one from Home Depot the 27 ft 52 in independence, does anyone have any experience with this brand?
Wow..looks great ! Where did you get your pool from ? I like the color. Thanks !
Hello, could you tell me what was done with the ladder? Did you have to saw it to fit , since pool is In-Ground a few feet
How is the wall being carried on the dolly to unroll? Does it spin on the dolly?
Great Video Thanks!!!
That one hole on the pool is just for the pump hose?
Getting ready to do the same thing with a 1ft difference from lowest to highest point. Are you having any drainage issues from the slope? Our yard is basically clay so water pools up from heavy rain.
Did you get your pool up? We are in thr middle of ours. Yard slopes about 4 inches. Curious to see how yours turned out.
@@ashleycammon4105 It’s a heck of a job so let me know if you have any questions.
Yes I do these for a living and real in ground pools but ur right buddy no need for thoses lol
do you still install them? I do installs now and looking at adding this to what we do.
Well done, but man, one backhoe and some concrete and you could have had an in-ground for the same amount of time. ;)
After 2 full years of use going into year 3, how is it holding up.
Where did you purchase this pool?
I had plans of building a deck half way around mine, but I got a quarter way around a had three times as much money in the deck than I did the pool. 1/4 deck will have to do.
I still haven't built my deck yet. My wife wants it to wrap around 3/4 of the pool so I know what you're talking about when it comes to the expense. I'll see when I do mine how far I get with it.
How long did it take you? And how has it held up?
Was it worth it and would you do it again? I'm about to order a pool for me to do this in a couple weeks. Can't imagine paying 10k for the company to do it if it's something I can handle?
Is it recommended to put screenings gravel under the pool? I have everything leveled out already but someone said I needed pea gravel under it to help. Is this recommended? Or will a mat be more than enough thank you!!!
You want sand, not gravel of any type.
Having issues with the water invalve leaking do you have any tips?
How many days did u made this?
I’m gonna get my pool soon
How do you keep the bottom rail stationary when putting the wall in? it seems like it would move to easily and then everything would be off.
put stakes down around the track to prevent it from moving

Hello can I know what’s that outer wall panel called because I want to put one around my intex pool when I put it up
