We’re in 2022, there’s absolutely zero reason why we can’t get at least a proper Resident Evil 1 film done right. Hollywood makes it look like it's rocket science. If you can’t adapt it right, leave it alone. It’s getting into Fantastic Four levels here.

@@spotlight1677 you don’t make sense at all. So the best way to hide that you’re an evil bio weapon creating company is to have a security system so bad that it can be fooled by 2 teenagers with a flashlight and a recording that obviously sounds like a recording. Then after that not have a rent a cop outside of the building to check if the door is still locked. Then after that still not have a secret security force hidden from the public to squash any type of intrusion which they apparently did have because let’s face it they had it in episode 1 and it is umbrella. Let’s just agree that this is a horrible adaption rife with plot holes and just straight up garbage.
You know its a bad show when they insert veganism and elon musk into the first seconds in a world where those characters should not even exist or things like covid. @@ArcViper People actually gave a shit to make quality films/games back then, now everything seems to be going down hill, still some bangers out there, like Top Gun and Squid Games.
Yes. They're doing it intentionally. Paul Anderson created his own RE world and made billions of dollars. I believe Netflix is trying something similar but without contradicting much of the RE timeline. With the hate WTRC received, it's honestly not worth trying to get closer and closer to the games. It's too risky for the steak holders. The fanbase is too damn toxic.
I thought Anderson's movies failed as an adaptation when he added his wife as an indestructible Mary Sue while the game characters barely did anything and each sequel retconned the previous story. But boy oh boy, this is on a completely new level. I'm convinced their entire research was watching one trailer for one of the games. Even Uwe Boll had more respect for his source material. How effing hard is it to make a zombie horror movie in a creepy victorian mansion?
I'd love a Resident Evil film or series that really doubles down on the horror. They could set it in the mansion but leave out Chris and Jill etc (keep them for the sequel) and focus on Bravo team. We know the whole team except Rebecca were killed in and around the mansion, so there would be plenty of opportunities to crank up the kill count in really gory ways. They could also get their fill of diversity in, as Bravo team was already diverse in it's makeup.
@@jmal I love that laser scene. Everyone gets massacred by lasers in the movie, but then in Resident Evil 4, Leon just flips over them and avoids the lasers like a chad. Always puts a smile on my face when I replay that section.

I have never rooted so hard for a zombie Doberman to absolutely maul the main characters for their own stupidity. I legit almost cheered when he got Billie. Chalk one up for common sense (and Dogs against Vegans).
You mean to tell me, yet _another_ show from writer's who think they somehow know how to reinvent an already existing IP is complete garbage? Who woulda thunk?!
At this point I don’t think they’re even trying to “reinvent” anything. I think it’s more like the execs pay for a license, and throw it at their staff to do _something_ with it. Said staff doesn’t give two sh*ts so they just write whatever so they don’t get fired.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around why & how Billie goes from being BFF's with her sister Jade as they both drive off in the end at of the last episode with Bert in the past timeline. To Billie becoming a complete sociopath, psycho, narcissist who's now running Umbrella, who turns the umbrella CEO into a robot, guns down her own men, wants to kill her own sister, and kidnaps her own niece for what im guessing is to experiment on her. There was so many "WTF that makes no sense" moments in this show it had my head spinning. I could write a better Resident Evil script than this and i haven't played those games in over a decade. So much stupidity in this show. That giant worm would have killed Jade, that out of nowhere cafeteria bitch starting a fight for no reason whatsoever, the 5 Weskers (sounds like an doo wop group), the giant mutated salt water crocodile couldn't have cared less by small arms fire but it they did damage and it would have def killed Billie, Billie turning the CEO of umbrella into a robot, gunning down her own troops, the CEO lady killing her son right from the jump even though it's obvious they have a treatment to keep you from going full zombie...etc I could keep going and going but I don't feel like writing a thesis on show. I'll leave this with the "EVERYTHING WRONG WITH" guys.
Maybe, just maybe, if they just scratch the "present" timeline and act like it was never there, and then get some good scriptwriter/director on board who knows what RE is about, it could turn out ok. I guess the clones are stupid, but oh well I don't mind it so much. Just don't call anyone Wesker anymore. Especially with the introduction of a known character like Ada it might reconnect the RE fanbase. there is 0 chance this series will ever be successful going forward as is. Oh and let everyone play at least some RE games, so the actors and everyone involved knows in what kind of universe they are. It is not a fking teen show with clunky stupid ass jokes, and teenage problems, nor a call of duty zombies shooter.
I think the distinction between zombie apocalypse and a condensed zombie outbreak is important so I'm glad you mentioned that. The games really never went for a global scale event which made it that much better in my opinion. Apocalypse scenarios are contrived and redundant at this point.

And it just gets worse and worse the more you watch. Like ITS SO BAD. Idk how tf she survived the first episode let alone the entire series. It was annoying but became kinda funny how dumb it was…
I can literally give everything about the show a pass. Even the hordes letting Zs have 1v1s..But Jades character as a whole, was just painful. Are we not supposed to like her? I dont even mind young and older Billie. She was legit going through some stuff as a teen and i have no problem with her being a psycho later..but Jade...from episode 1 to the end, was just so unlikable. The show probably stunted the careers of both actresses that played her.
Same here. I thought I was the only one who thought she made one dumb decision after another from the time she was 14 to whatever age she ended up being. I didn’t like her at all.
Yep. Jade as a character was just mind-boggling in how stupid she is. It's actually incredible that she just makes bad decision after bad decision after bad decision and somehow the show acts like she's still a good, intelligent person. No, that is actually not true. Spencer took kids trom all over the world, itvwas not about race. But fake Weskers character is compleatly different from his real character.
It wasn't Spencer that created Wesker...but it was Dr. Wesker...and there were many kids known as the Wesker kids. Albert was one of them and he was one of two who survived the first virus (not the T-virus). The blu eyes and blond hair didn't come into account for his surviving of the virus. Wesker was already a mutaded human before the virus and It is because of that that all the virus did was make him stronger.
I feel like if this were written as a parody, as a comedy skit, this show would have been so funny as a commentary on Hollywood and modern screenwriting. But maybe the fact they are dead serious and desperately trying to pass us a message for real makes it even funnier.
See I didn’t take them that seriously after about episode 5, but in the beginning the character that annoyed me the most was that Evelyn I think her name is, the lady who’s leading umbrella. It seemed so try hard and fake, then afterwards it makes sense why she’s the way she is.

Part of the reason why adaptations of video games are generally terrible is because the directors and producers don't understand the games. There was a quote from a semi-documentary on them from the director of resident evil saying something like "there is no story to that game, they're just in a house with zombies, there is nothing to go off of". So these directors and producers barely know more than the tip of the iceberg of the story and they also have to change shit to either bring in a larger audience (that may not play video games) or to pander to current social trends.
The only way i think they could pull off an actual RE movie is to use the WTRC approach but better. Have it start off with 0/1 together. 0 with flashbacks/Train as the intro and have to then start where the Alpha team is called in by Irons to rescue Bravo team. Then they fly into the forest and get trapped into the mansion and both parties spit up. Barry/Wesker, Jill/Chris. Chris and Jill somehow find Rebecca and Richard and then we get another flashback of Rebecca with Billy and how she is used to this already. The events of Re1 still happen, aside from the puzzles of course; except for two important keys to go to the basement where you fight Lisa. It will then lead into Barry being forced to help kill the STARS teams because of Wesker blackmailing him of killing him and his family. Wesker "dies", and all of the remaining stars members fly back to Police Department.
Name "Resident Evil" is there only to get more watches. If they change names of characters, Raccoon city and viruses from games nobody will know its related to resident evil games.
It baffles me that Capcom just keeps letting anyone make live action films from their IPs when they always flop in the end...Capcom please have some dignity and self respect for yourself, franchises and fans ffs.

My favorite was the shot where the dog just appears under the table with them and just growls and barks giving them enough time to get away. There was also the weirdly awkward sequence where she's on the roof and the guy stops and gets killed and she gets in the vehicle and escapes. It's all so illogical and it doesn't even look cool. It looks like they just made the action sequences up as they went along.
By the time the first episode was done, I had figured out how this shitshow likely came to be: 1. Netflix bigshots need a new show 2. They choose a big name such as Resident Evil and somehow get the owner to lend the rights 3. They decide to do some research about the franchise 4. They pop in RE2 Remake, because "who wants to play the lame-ass first game with it's stupid camera angle and shit, amirite?" 5. 3 hours in, they say "fuck it, this game is too long. RE3 Remake is much shorter and more action packed." 6. "Holy shit, this Jill Christmas character is a total badass who takes no shit and slips in a swear every other sentence." 7. "More games to play? Fuck it, watch the movies, they'll explain the whole story." 8. "Ah, now I get it. Gentlemen, now we must appeal to the zoomers." 9. "But sir, what about Twitter?" 10. "Don't worry... we've got that under control..."

Let's take a look at an alternate timeline where Billie and Jade's plan worked the way they wanted it to go: Umbrella gets shut down, as a result, your dad loses his job, goodbye house, health benefits, free internet access, cushy house/ lifestyle, a yard. And considering, Jade's personality, she would probably take all of this out on her dad. And that's without getting into the fact that this would happen to hundreds of other families who would end up without food, water, electricity, medical care And that's without going into a reality where nothing happens to Umbrella except their dad getting fired. Everything from before(minus the hundreds of family) happens, plus the girls also get charged with breaking and entering.

I can already see Netflix promoting this show as having the first black woman in Resident Evil. Because you know none of these people have played the games or read the lore, they just had an intern skim through the Wikipedia page.
Everytime they introduce "diversity" they act like they discovered gravity. We've been doing "diversity" since the '80s and hardly anybody batted an eye.
It was clear very quickly in this RE iteration how awful it was within ten minutes of viewing. The irony to me is two shows on Netflix that already were successful creating a modern horror suspense style show with non-white actors (the entire cast) were Squid Games and Alice in Borderland, both of which are getting a season 2, so much for the racism argument. The issue is these woke US shows always model their woke characters after the annoying feminists on Twitter who are just unlikable irl, so of course they'll be unlikeable in these series. The issue Hollywood just can't come to terms with is these same woke shills don't watch any of this stuff anyway, so why the hell are you trying to provide content for them, or put in these little woke dialogue nods to the wannabe mean girls strange fetishy crowd? It's sad that Hollywood is incapable of writing and casting a decent horror suspense show while Korea and Japan do it effortlessly.
Sorry I haven't played the game, but it's a piece of shit in the plot, hysterical like an arrogant neurotic kid, I have a deep suspicion that the left is trying to attract opposition by making this kind of crap to satisfy them that they can protect themselves The so-called minority desires and political needs.
I'm Latino myself and I'm huge RE fan since I was a kid and you'know what? I never gave a single fuck about a diverse cast or inclusivity or whatever regarding the games characters. I like RE because RE is cool in a stupid fun way. I don't know what is about this constant woketard shit Netflix consistently tries to shove down everyone throats, it just alienates everyone, fans of the games or not. Call me a weeb, but it's telling that a foreign industry like Japan care about putting the story and interesting characters first regarding their media. Hollywood obsesses with pandering and filling out diversity checkboxes.
I think Asians in general have been deemed too successful with low rates of crime. So, they do not fit in the diverse or "POC" terminology anymore. So basically they would still shout racist for us not liking this garbage show. I really enjoyed both Squid games and Alice in borderlands and I can't wait for the new seasons. The moment a show or movie changes a character's race, it's automatically trash to me. There is no reason for it.
So, basically, they think games have no form of lore on their own?
What about sonic movies
The larger audience never plays the game or read the comics/books

Man, can we just get a good RE adaptation? I don't really like horror games but I loved the story of RE... How hard can it be to have a good adaptation for once?
Lefties in 2018: "I'm woke and proud!"
Same Lefties in 2022: "Stahp calling me woke, you rightwing Fox News conspiracy theorist!"
Leftists from 10 years ago would ve terrified at the censorship tactics of the leftists of today. Everything is going crazy.
The Progressive narrative is breaking down as fast as Wesker's DNA
i feel like at this point Netflix is trying to see how far they can push our tolerance
because with or without the RE title, its still a total trainwreck of a show, its catatrosphically bad
A drug named Joy, causing genetic mutations in the people who take it. I know this probably isn't the case because Lisa The Painful is an indie RPG but it's hilarious to think that they're so creatively bankrupt that they had to steal ideas from an entirely different game series to make this.
Joy drug was also a thing in we happy few. I believe it’s been a thing before both of these but I’m not sure.
@@zigsteenine8650 I mean as far as I know the concept itself has been around since before video games existed like with books like Brave New World and The Giver, it's the mutating thing coupled with it being called Joy that reminds me of Lisa.
@@zigsteenine8650 yes! That’s what I was thinking
@@ChaoticHeroGames i love that game. The mutants always scared me, since sometimes they have fucked up facial expressions. Kind of like uncanny valley.
Resident Evil is something that I’ve been a fan of for most of my entire life and I’m 41…. Played every game numerous times books, movies and everything in between and when I heard the show was coming I started to get a bit excited and I hated the entire show I couldn’t even finish it and damn that was a let down
Lance Reddick is a good actor.
Hell, he’d have made a decent blade if Snipes declined to reprise the roll.
He is NOT Albert Wesker, I don’t give a hooting hollering hell what any blue hair diversity hire says.
The list of actors who look or can make themselves look like Wesker is pretty big. Pick one of them and actually give us the genocidal megalomaniac we all know and love.
Give us blonde anime Mr. Smith Hitler.
(I’m trademarking that nickname.)
Blasker would have been better as different character, the Wesker that we know and love is so iconic yet they had to blackwash him.
I wish ppl would start complaining about blackwashing, because lets be honest when a white person paint himself black they make drama and call it blackface but they cheer it when its done for movies or animated shows.
To get to the point ppl dont realise that blackwashing a character is basicly the same as doing blackface.
@@k.m.k.2976 no. No it’s not.
@@k.m.k.2976 blackface is monstrous due to the historical implications and the punching down, not as much because it’s a white man pretending to be black😭. Why are people on the internet so ignorant?

@@Flukiest I found it funny how wierd his hair looked in the wesker suit, it looks like a very badly placed wig hell for a moment i thought he was black neo from the matrix or blade.
how effing hard is it to make a 8 episode show about a guy in a large Midwest american city ducking and dodging rotting zombies as he tries to find an escape route? EVERYONE WHO IS A FAN OF THE GAMES, has been wanting to see something like that since 1998. This is not some big mystery
The Silent Hill movie might satisfy that itch
This series is still good regardless if all the angry incels hate how it’s not a copy paste of the source material
@@patrickburton1401 Because incel makes sense
@@patrickburton1401 BlackSummer kept truer to the source material and it wasn't even related to resident evil. So dont sit there and try to lie to me, saying its decent. This isn't even good if you took away the resident evil name. Which is funny because you would almost forget that it is if they didn't try to force a game reference on us like a sexual predator
@@patrickburton1401 this isn't at all a good show, also using incel here doesn't even make sense
Every video about this show leading up to release I've left a comment how and why I believe this was going to be another terrible adaptation of my favorite video game franchise. While I did have quite a few competent people that could understand where I was coming from it seemed there was almost always more delusional fanboys telling me I was synical, toxic, and shouldn't judge the show by what I had seen from the trailers. Well now I've seen the show and just as I predicted and you have pointed out in your review not only this isn't Resident Evil but it's not even a good zombie focused experience. However we all know there's gonna be those same idiots that lie to themselves and defend this show for no good reason bc they are mindless sheeple who have succumbed to the woke agenda unable to think for themselves.
Stfu with this woke agenda crap. Its tired and played out. Go back to mommies basement.
What do you mean? It’s genuinely a show I enjoyed watching, it has good story telling and complex characters. Nobody in the show is perfect, and they all are relatable. There is no Mary Sue, there is no perfect. Please stop shitting on people for likening adaptations of popular things.
@@washburne2734 just bc you like something doesn't make it objectively good. You and others can claim they enjoyed it all they want but for the rest of us we want a better adaptation of our favorite franchise.
@@t-wrecks9866 it is genuinely good, have you watched it? I love resident evil and I even played the og game, I personally think it’s a wonderful adaptation. You shitting on other fans for enjoying it is my problem.
@@washburne2734 listen kid I'm not gonna sit here break down and explain every issue not only I and alot of other people had with this show in the comment section of a youtube video. If you don't believe me than look at the reviews out there it's not doing very well. Most fans of the series don't like the show and that's not a coincidence
At this point, American television is basically the English version of the bullshit, low budget action and romance flicks they show on Telemundo in a hospital lobby somewhere.
Netflix is so brave for introducing the 400th first female character in a series
@@jmal yeah true, we already got Marvin Branagh in RE 3. He is a high-ranked officer.
@@luthfinicolasereni5595 marvin was introduced in re2. There’s also Sheva who is one of the main characters of RE5
@@zigsteenine8650 we also have Josh Stone in RE 5
We have got two black dudes on RE Outbreak too
It was clear very quickly in this RE iteration how awful it was within ten minutes of viewing.
Hollywood obsesses with pandering and filling out diversity checkboxes.
agree 100%!!!
Let me add that those “woke” feminists don’t even associate with the groups of people they “defend” majority of the time.
Honestly they are making amazing zombie movies and shows and just great content in general!
I just love how You put Crash 2 jingles in the background. It perfectly adds how comical this "adaptation" is. Great review, keep it up! :D
Every character now is super snarky and sarcastic and quippy now. In everything. Its endless shit vomit
Holy crap… you made it all the way through ep1 .. I turned off at the “we have to save the animals…. because this isn’t even good for a non fan (only watched the movies and some of the animated shows/movies) so all I was expecting was zombie fight scenes and something something T virus … umbrella bad…. But this was terrible
They black-washed Wesker and made the show about race in a world humanity have bigger problems to care about with a common enemy in mind.
I couldn’t identify a single bit of resident evil in this whole story.
I guess they’re not a fan of a franchise that most of the heroes are either Police or Military.
The moment a show or movie changes a character's race, it's automatically trash to me. There is no reason for it.
Resident Evil had quite a few characters that weren't white they could choose from if they wanted to check off their boxes or they could have just come up with a completely new character.
@@phoenixxxashez why cast on acting merit and skill when the only casting criteria is a low pigment level in skin I’m a big fan of resident evil i must be the only normal person who isn’t triggered by the pigment of an actors skin the thought didn’t even cross my mind
@@sparklingwater1430 Do you really think there aren’t enough great, white actors willing to play these roles? How about the fact that if it’s a minority character, despite being fewer of them, they _always_ make sure they’re the same race. It’s only ever white characters that are swapped these days. If white-washing is so horrendous, then so are any other permutations. Unless you’re a hypocrite.
Plus, this show already doesn’t follow the game’s canon in anyway outside names. So even if you don’t care about the casting choices, the show doesn’t represent the source material anyway. Which is the whole point of basing it off an existing property. These people _don’t care_ about these IP, stop defending their terrible choices.

After all of these years, you'd think they would just make a Resident Evil movie where S.T.A.R.S. enter a mansion and have to survive the horrors within.
In other words, make it like the first game and go from there.
That would be the ultimate fan service. Keep it campy. Keep some of the bad dialog to pop long time fans, and have fun with it.
