    From the NoCeilings article:
"In the 757 possessions that Castle and Clingan shared the floor, UConn had a defensive rating of 89.5 (99th percentile). In the 715 possessions that Castle played without Clingan on the floor, UConn’s defensive rating jumped to 102.3 (80th percentile). That’s still a terrific rating, but it is a substantial drop off. So, clearly Clingan was the determining factor for UConn’s defense, right? Well, not exactly. In the 521 possessions that Clingan played without Castle on the floor, UConn’s defensive rating was 101.8 (83rd percentile). Whenever one played without the other, UConn still had a stifling defense, but they experienced a similar drop off. What Clingan meant to UConn’s interior defense is eerily similar to what Castle meant to their perimeter defense"
Now imagine Castle, Sochan, and Wemby playing all together. Jeremy on opponents' star, Castle pestering guards, and Wemby roving the paint. It's going to be an exciting season for sure.

It's possible Castle might be a better playmaker than Holiday and White, but even if he's the same... that's a big positive. Both White and Jrue are versatile, smart and team-focused.
If Castle is a little weaker than them on offense and around their elite level on defense... that's a legit starter/all star calibre player for a long period of time. Castle's game isn't a flash in the pan, just like Jrue and White's aren't.
He doesn't need to be a star to be a critical piece of a championship condender. White and Jrue proved that.

The Spurs need three things: 1. They need Castle to develop into a competent starting PG by the end of the year. 2. They need Barnes to be a solid shooter in the corner, vet in the locker room, and a competent defender. 3. They need some luck in the draft lottery (Hawks move up, Bulls move down, and some luck with their own pick if they're in the lottery).
They should be a play in team by the end of the year and they have up to 3 lottery picks in '25.

Bro basically described miracles. First of all rookies wont develop THAT fast especially guards. Secondly, if Barnes is %50 of what you described he would still be on Kings. Thirdly, its all luck.
Realistic Spurs expectations is young players and whole team is adjusting to Wemby this year. Vets impaling winning habits to young team. I like Wemby, but they are nowhere near play in team which means top 10 in west.

@@farukguney6894 Barnes was a good shooter last year, I think over 39% from three last year. He was no worse than any other player on defence, the Kings simply didn't play much of that. The Spurs will ask far less of him than the Kings did last year.
And all I said Castle needed to do was develop into a competent PG. He doesn't need to be a starter or all rookie, just become competent. He's intelligent and has CP3 to learn from. I don't think that's a miracle at all. Lots of rookies develop that quickly. Wouldn't you say Brandon Miller was competent by the end of the season? Jaquez in Miami? Podziemski, Lively, the Thompson twins, they all developed into competent NBA players by the end of last year.

Castle has said on numerous occasions that the current player he most sees himself modeling and wanting to be like, is...SGA.
In that case, who better to mentor Castle than the guy who's famously credited with helping SGA become the player we know today?

With the Clippers being much worse and OKC owning their picks in the near future if OKC gets someone like Cooper it's over for the league. However, Wemby might be too good for a top pick so I also hope that the Hawks don't have a good season and give us their top pick.

Thanks alot. Great breakdown. Id say the success of the new additions will depend very much on the motivation of Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes at their age: they know they won't be there when these Spurs reach maturity, so they are mainly building something of which they won't reap the fruits. We saw CP3 was tired at the Warriors, is he now determined to give his all ? I hope so but that requires a sense of sacrifice. It will also depend on their results and possible playoff participation. Having assets and trading assets is two different things. It means you no longer believe those assets are needed on your team usually. The Spurs are not trading away Keldon/Devin/Sochan and all these dudes on perfect team friendly long term deals to chase a sub-superstar guy like Lauri Markkanen or Trae Young. If they take a swing, its because a Luka/SGA/Ant/Tatum type guy is available, because those guys are actually worth the max you are paying them. The Spurs are going the Duncan route again with guys who are close to all star surrounding a generational talent and build years of chemistry to compete every year. They are not about to trade the next 10 years they have perfectly set up for a short term "ESPN" type trade to pair Wemby with a subpar guy

@@AM-eg9ji Thats's also not true at all. The Spurs routinely kept their draft picks when they had duncan. What you mean is they never had as many high potential draft picks cause during the duncan years they were always good so the picks didn't have high value, but the Spurs are just playing the modern game. You need picks every year so you can get young guys and trade them for more down the line. So the Spurs are not trading their treasure trove of picks ever, because the goal is to constantly get a lottery pick like OKC does

As someone who watches almost every Spurs game, the guys missing Wemby on passes was definitely something that happened quite a bit in the earlier part of the season. It was just the growing pains of an incredibly young, underdeveloped team that was having to learn on the job. It was eventually largely ironed out by the end of the year as the guys had started to gel and made massive leaps in learning how to play with Wemby; there was a small period were it was _really_ bad though.
But yeah, I see too many people _(who I'm pretty certain only watched viral compilation videos of Wemby's teammates missing him)_ act like it was the entire season and make it out to be a bigger issue than it actually was in the long run. And yes, it is annoying.
