Nice day, calm water and great fishing Captain Zac, a few beauties landed too.Great underwater footage, amazing to see how many time the nibble at the bait.Awesome video and thumbs up from New Zealand, Tony.
Hi Tony big thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater halibut footage! Yes indeed - it is always surprising how many times a fish will continue to strike a jig before they get hooked! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Arnold many thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut footage! I appreciate the positive comment - tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Dave thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! I appreciate the kind words about the underwater footage and the cleanup at the fillet table! Calm seas and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

Hi TheArcticCircle thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut footage! Thanks for pointing out that kelp greenling - how cool! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
You guys had a lot of action out there. The under water footage was awesome that halibut couldn't resiste the fire eye glow jig. Tight lines to you both!
Another great trip for you two!! I saw the exceptional amount of time and detail that you put into cleaning up those fillets Zac. It always amazes me to see people put in the time, effort, and money to get those fish in the boat only to rush through the cleaning process. You get a much better tasting result when you pay attention to detail. As always, have fun, good luck, and be safe out there my friend.🎣
Hi David many thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut footage! I appreciate the kind words and totally agree regarding attention to detail at the fillet table. I see the same thing sometimes when people bring a prized salmon or halibut to the fillet table and then try to rush through it yielding a sloppy and wasteful result. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Kevin thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater halibut footage! I appreciate the positive comment - tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi BarryC thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! So well said - I totally agree about the "bonus" of catching a halibut for dinner while scouting for new spots! Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Capt Zac- I wish I had your underwater camera with me a couple weeks ago near Petersburg. I was out with my son and a couple friends where I’ve fished with you any number of times. It was getting late in the afternoon and the guys wanted to head back in for dinner. I could feel the tide just getting right. The 5 minute warning passed and they all said “Lines Up, Let’s head in!”. But two of them got tangled in bringing their lines up from the 75 ft depth. So I just kept my 7oz Fire Eye jig down near the bottom, giving it my signature action. The guys finally get their lines clear and say “Ok it time!”. Kid you not, jig-jig-THUMP! Was magical and perfectly on cue. Nice 40lb halibut came topside and joined the rest of the harvest on the deck. Would have been impressive to see what it looked like down there when that “Whistle-fish” stopped by. :) Tight Lines!
Hi Geoff thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Wow what an awesome experience in Petersburg recently! That 40lb halibut strike came at a perfect time - it is always BLAST to catch a nice one on the very last cast of the day (especially on a Fire Eye Glow Jig)! Great catch and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Bobby thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut footage! Congrats on the 35lber and I hope you caught a monster on the fire eye glow jig! How did you end up doing on your fishing trip? Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Ice Fishing Maine thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater footage! Yes - this rig is a combination of go-pro housing, zip ties and a lot of trial and error hoping the camera angle and water clarity work in my favor to produce viable video! It is great when it all comes together and can be very frustrating when it doesn't! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Pascual thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut footage! Yes you are correct - this is a GoPro taking the underwater footage. Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Dj Morra thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut footage! I use the halibut jigs that I developed over countless hours of halibut fishing! Check them out: captainzacalaska.com/ Tight lines! Captain Zac
Hi Stas thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Cool idea to fish for halis out of a kayak near the homer spit. I'm not too familiar with the local fishing in Homer but @kwzook may be. Tight lines! Captain Zac
Hi FMB thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater halibut footage! I use a GoPro mount, zip ties and a lot of trial and error in terms of camera angle and water clarity! All of the stars have to align for the footage to turn out. Tight lines! Captain Zac
Hi Biggame AKsomeday thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Occasionally, I fish with a chum bag while at anchor, especially if I'm exploring a new spot or committing to a spot for a longer session. A chum bag can create a big scent slick and attract additional fish to the area. I have a few spots where I know I'll find fish right when I anchor up so a chum bag ins't necessary. Also, I do a lot of backtrolling / drift fishing which means I don't use a chum bag when using these approaches. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Great video, as usual! I feel your pain loosing a decent fish after an apparent good hook-up. For some reason I’ve had a lot of that this year and I can’t figure out why. I’ll get a solid fish on, set the hook well, and it runs out 50 feet of line and just isn’t there any more. Always disappointing. I’ll keep trying!
Hi Kim I appreciate you stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater halibut footage! Yes indeed a lost fish is always a tough outcome but I'm convinced that the more practice in terms of hooksets and fish-fighting the better the chances are of maximizing the percentage of fish landed. That said, sometimes there just isn't a great explanation for why a fish gets off - which is SO FRUSTRATING!!! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Epic underwater footage! Subscribed!

Also at 17:11 there is a really pretty kelp greenling and the bottom there looks to me like volcanic, but I am not sure about that one

Scouting days don’t always produce fish, but they always provide information. When you catch dinner also, that’s a bonus
