As an ultramarine player it’s good to see some actual content on them and not just smurf marine jokes. They’re the best casual army because they’re easy to learn and hard to master and blue is just the best colour
Been with the Ultramarines since the 90s. Glad to hear you point out that they are not as "bland" and boring as people think. Love that you went bright on them.
I didn’t start ultra marine because I thought they were the most popular… turns out slot of people think the same. The subreddit for ultramarines is actually tiny which may correlate to how few people actually collect them. I have a dark angel chapter but kind of wish I went ultramarines now cus I like my army to be in one colour. :( wish I could turn back time.
Great video guys! I was left waiting for a full army shot to see how many Ultramarines Brian truly has but it never came. The slow, zoomed in panning is great but please show us the whole army as well.
I've been into Ultramarines since 1996 when I was 6 years old and got into Warhammmer. I literally don't care whatsoever what anyone else thinks of them. They're the best chapter. They're the most beautiful in terms of aesthetic and lore.
In the late 80s I bought 'THE' space marine box and as I liked blue and thought I could possibly paint a 'U' I started an Ultramarine army. I left the hobby 5-6 ears later and returned mid 8th ed. Dam was I shocked, and happy, about what they had become. I've not returned to them as an army (one day), but at least my son now has!
The sweater is glorious, and that blue will be near impossible to replicate.....he said in a previous BR that it was a mix of like five different paints. He does have a recipe but it’s not released. If I had to start anywhere I’d start with standard UM blue, a bit of Calgar blue, maybe a little of Vallejo blue green. Obviously most heavily on the UM blue. But they have a torquoise-y feel to them and knowing these guys it comes from a dash of Vallejo blue green #vallejosponsoradrian
Also it seems like he did an undercoat with something more close to a navy blue, it really makes itself apparent in recesses and in the lower areas of the vehicles/ centurions legs....food for thoight
I'm about to dig into an Ultramarines army after playing 2 years of Tau. This video was super helpful. Definitely feel like I'm making the right choice.
When I started doing 40k, I knew nothing about different chapters and even thought this one plague marine with plasma gun (in old magazine picture) was just some random space marine and that their back bags were some sorta jump packs or something 😅 This was in 2001 when I bought my first box of 5 marines and thought the blue and yellow looked cool, so I painted those first ones that. Obviously it was Ultramarines. I had 5 paints for them: Blood red for the bolters and other red bits (bolters were red back then 😆). Chainmail for the metal parts. Ultramarines blue for the blue parts. Golden yellow for all the bits which are now golden (they were yellow then). And Goblin green for base. That's all. I don't remember what was the second box I bought, but probably was that old command squad, which was such a joy to paint, because it was all new to me. And then I started learning about the rules and chapters etc... first I just wanted to paint something. But been Ultramarines collector ever since and never thought they were boring. Sure, in earlier editions (like 3rd...) they were bland with 0 special rules, but of course interesting characters made up for it for me. Still got those old metal Marneus Calgar and Tigurius models (not the 1st gen Calgar tho, that one who's sitting) and they look just so tiny compared to the current ones 🤣 But I'm going to use them in some games none the less. I've collected different armies as well. Orks (speed freekz in earlier editions), Necrons, Sisters of Battle, Nurgle, Eldar, a bit of Imperial Guard... Last Chancers (that was actually fun to play with!)... But most of them I've sold. Through out all these years, not a single model from my Ultramarine army has been sold or lost and I still remember which of my models was the very first I've ever painted, even when it have had some recoloring done to it.
I would love a codex breakdown for each army. Sort of going over what each unit/relic/hq/ strategem and talk about what it is good at and what it could be used for.
I really like your Ultramarines, maybe after I've collected Dark Angels (Ravenwing and Deathwing) I can start down that rabbit hole. Right now I'm really into Imperial Knights. I hated them in 8th because they trashed my Imperial Guard every time. But, now that time has healed my crushed spirit I took a second look and really fell in love with those big dakka dakka mechs. Since super heavy tanks aren't in a great place this edition I decided to bring a super heavy detatchment of knights to play with a small patrol of scions for dropping in and deploying scramblers. It's been working out amazingly so far and I'm excited about ITC events happening again in my area around SoCal. Amazing collection and video guys!
Really, I initially chose ultramarines because the blue and gold is just a beautiful combination of colors. Then I find out after choosing them that GW apparently supports them the most out of any faction (with models and such)
Nice to see another ultra marine owner who doesn’t spend an hour just adding highlights and different shades and shadows and such, I just put a few highlights and some black wash and brown wash on the legs.
The reward for putting up with smurf jokes and haters is having one of the coolest armies in 40k. Fun to paint, nerf-proof due to not excelling in any one category aside from characters, and great lore for those of you readers. Just finished reading Nightbringer and painting my Ultramarines in 4th company colors to go with Uriel Ventris.
I just got into 40k last summer. I'm up to 5k points in Ultramarines. I was never jealous of other people's armies but I really envy you with that sweater.

I cannot unsee that sweater. Great video.
The ultramarines are so iconic, for good reason. Look at how gorgeous they are on the table.
I just got into the game last year, and Ultramarines were my first Army.
Love the boys in Blue.
I'm also a big fan of clean lines and crisp trim. Well done. For Ultramar!
To be fair, I did buy a Gulliman model.......to kitbash with Ghazkul to make Ultra Ghazkul with Rowboat Girlyman’s head being carried by Merkari.
One good reason is that every time a new model is released there's a 33% chance you'll be hyped for an addition to your forces kappa
33% is under shooting it tbh.
Bryan has the most awesome UM Christmas sweater ever!!!

That light blue is really cool, making me think of doing some of that color instead of dark.
The most important question is: what your recipe for such a good blue?!
For the models or the sweater lol
The models, I hate ugly sweaters.

You can feel the love Brian has for the good old boys in blue
I'd love for this guy to do a paint tutorial that blue is beautiful and those red cables are just *chefs kiss*
1) you want to win without having to be awake for the game
2) you like cheese
Beautiful army, the blue really pops out! Love it
NGL before this video I thought they were bland, but now after reading the lore, I legitimately they are pretty interesting
you mean the lore where the guard fight for decades against chaos only for three marines to kill like 4 cultists and "win the day"
I'd like to request a painting tutorial for these. They look great.
Where can I get a sweater like that? As an Ultramarine army owner, I must have that sweater!
