    People who complain about the lack of shifting feel of the CVT need a understand that an "automatic is an automatic!". If they want "shifting feel" shut up and get a real manual. I was skeptical when I test drove and ultimately bought my Platinum Maxima but I like the smooth acceleration and the transmission's smooth downshifting going down hills. Of course when I'm racing BMWs and Audis I use the Sport Mode to simulate shifting and not be embarrassed. ... just kidding. This car is fast, fun, quiet, and in my opinion, very good looking.

      Am going to have my 2016 maxima in two weeks .. What do you think about its handling and the quietness inside?

    • @Bonaventure2AK
      @Bonaventure2AK 8 лет назад +6

      +turki fit
      For quiet, it's about average. I drove a Lexus ES and Acura TLX over the same roads and on rough freeways they were all about the same. For handling I like the lower sitting position and comfortable seats. It feels like a go-kart around corners. I don't run it on race courses so don't need or want a "sports car", this is the most fun car to drive I've ever owned. (I really like the CVT) Let me know how you like yours when you get it.

    After owning 2017 Maxima SR for 2 years I am still a proud of it. And now I don't like automatics. I actually sold my 2017 Maxima and went out to buy a new car. I have test driven everything from Q50, TLX, Avalon, BMW 428i and Audi A4 and full circle back I just bought myself a 2019 Maxima SR and in the process I have realized that there is not a single car mentioned above come close to the feel and dynamics of Maxima especially in this price range. And Automatics are old and slow compared to an excellent CVT in Maxima and that's my conclusion. Cheers!

  • @blackb15

    A lot of complaining in here from people that would never buy one anyway. A few points:
    1) RWD won't ever happen as long as Infiniti and the Q50 are around.
    2) 300hp is plenty in a street family sedan.
    3) Don't think "sports car", think "sporty car" and it makes more sense.
    4) Manual trans in this car is gone, dead. There's a reason they stopped offering it: they were not selling.
    5) Props to Nissan for designing something unique. If you want a grandma mobile, go buy a Toyota Avalon or Chevy Impala instead.

    My co-worker wanted to buy Dodge Charger. He was going crazy about it. I took him to test drive Dodge Charger and then I asked him if he can just come and test drive Maxima. He was very reluctant and finally said yes. So he test drove the SL model and 15 minutes later he was in love with it and finally yesterday Dec 22, 2016 he bought himself a 2017 Maxima SL. Anyone doubts needs to drive this car and trust me engine and transmission in this car feels like match made in heaven. It rides better than any car 40k category.
    Cheers!!!

      It's been 2 months, and I'm still in love with this thing. Instead of meeting friends for lunch, I pick them up and take them home--always looking for an excuse to drive it. I'm still discovering neat user friendly design features that BMWs and new Accords don't have. Cornering, acceleration, braking and comfort are the best I've ever owned. The intelligent cruise makes highway driving much less stressful. I noticed that when the turn signal is activated and the cruise is slowing due to a car in front, it begins to accelerate for passing. Very cool.
      The moving object detection is uncannily sensitive and the 360 camera view is incredible.
      BTW, I was wondering what the "OFF" indication means on the sensor screen when backing. Dealer finally figured it out. If the sensor beeping is annoying while backing, just hit one of the arrow buttons on the steering wheel to cancel sensors. They are active again when in drive. These engineers thought of everything.
      The car is white, but the interior is black, which can be a nuisance on hot days but remote start helps.

    Who wouldn't bring a Maxima to a car meet? It's a bad ass car. Has been for decades. It's the flagship as far as looking at a Sentra, Altima (which I own) and then the Maxima. A real and true car meet is attended by real and true car enthusiasts. Not little kids bringing their parents car out or their first car they're paying for with their part time job. Look, it's about the car first, then your customized touches, then finally the friends you make; that's a real and true car meet. The rest is just added stuff.

    Tom, I think more "sportiness" in the Maxima will be an issue. If someone wants more in terms of performance, they can head to the Infiniti Q50 which is not far of reach in terms of price, and it offers some really good stuff (RWD, 7spd, 3.7L 300+hp, etc).
    That's my personal take on it,

    I dig it. I like cars that step away from traditional styling; and when you are able to do that in the boring sedan market of America, you are doing great things. I loved the Ford Fusion when it came out. If you're going to be in a car that is (more than likely) for the family, and needs to be reliable, why not have something that looks cool and stands out from the crowd? Obviously the Altima will sell a lot more than the Maxima, but I'm sure a lot of potential Altima buyers will walk into the dealership with their order in hand and pause for at least a minute looking at the Maxima.

    The Maxima was equipped with specially-made tires that enhance grip in addition to its sports suspension (as its "SR" designation indicates"). If Nissan is going to tout this track comparison, then the 328i needed to have the M-Sport suspension, the TLX should have been the SH-AWD version, and the A4 also should have been equipped with the optional sports suspension to make them all as "track-ready" as the Maxima.
    Regarding that center console, at first glance it looks good, but at closer look, it's cluttered and old-school.

    • @senorgato70
      @senorgato70 9 лет назад

      The Acanthus/Plinth Type It's not a question of cost. It's a question of whether the cars were truly track ready. The comparison was comparing performance only, not performance based on price.

    The Maxima is not a sport car. This feels like the revival of the original skyline series. A 4 door sedan with more than enough power for everyday usage, unique design, but still kind of comfortable and practical. These seem to be true to the new Maxima but as far as I know, the skyline series wasn't a sport car lineup either. They were sporty as the maxima, but the one that was, and is called a sport car is the GT-R. I think they did a good job, this car looks way better than I expected.

    Pardon my ignorance, but I listened to the brother on the video elude to the notion that the CVT in this vehicle "make it seem as if the trans is shifting " in other words when you use the paddle shifter, the trans doesn't actually shift at all. To me with my limited knowledge of cvt, I'm thinking ALL of the 6cyl cvt's (In the Nissan Brand) "Play Shifts" when you so called upshift & downshift on the road, does this go for all cvt's across brands or is this exclusive to the Nissan brand?

    I like Nissans and I own two of them, including a 1997 Max that still runs great with 233K on the odometer, but I think that at this point in time the Maxima has an identity crisis which this reviewer hit on when he advised that they consider offering some transmission options besides the CVT. If you are going to call your product a "4-door sports car" you really need to offer a manual transmission as an option on your designated sport models. Granted, a lot of buyers may love the CVT but a lot of others will be wanting a transmission with actual gears, not a pulley system, and a manni-tranni or at least a gear driven automatic would go a long way towards satisfying that segment of buyers. Also, isn't it time for Nissan to offer an all-wheel drive option on the Maxima? As one auto reviewer pointed out, asking which front wheel drive car is the most agile, sporty and responsive is sort of like asking who is the best one-armed boxer. For the Maxima to be taken seriously as a "four door sport car" it really needs gears in the transmission and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

      Mr Niceguy Maybe a WRX. The Benz CLA or C class. A 40k price range Audi, Infinite Q-40 or Q50. The Q60 Coupe is pretty sexy.
      I don't know, maybe go out and buy a Mustang or something sporty.

      If you could get it without the CVT, I'd love it. I ended up getting a GTI with a DSG. You'd probably get used to the CVT though. Eventually.

    Totally agree on the part that Nissan should have added a manual gearbox. At least on one of the models, understanding of course that Nissan tuned the new Maxima specifically for a CVT.

    Nice looking car, I have a G37, do they have the same engine?

    • @syxepop
      @syxepop 9 лет назад +1

      G. Castillo, they're both (Max's 3.5L and the Skyline's 3.7L) from the same (heavy weight) VQ family of engines, but that's where similarities end...
      But the '16 Max has a transversal FWD engine [AWD is not available yet] and makes 300/261, the Skyline (Q40/50) has a RWD longitudinal engine [AWD is an option, as the Q50X] and makes 328/269.
      Also the '16 Max's interior is now roughly the same size [~ 112 cu. ft.] as the 3-Series or the Skyline Q40 (shouldn't happen as either is RWD, so the RWD's have to be longer to compensate the "hump"), while the Skyline's Q50 interior [~ 118 cu. ft] is slightly larger than in the '15 Altima (even with the "hump"). Yes, Max is TIGHTER than an Altima or Q50 Skyline...
      If you want my honest assessment, Nissan should've made Max an Altima Platinum (Max's style and "goodies" with the Altima's dimensions, which would make it more comfortable)...

      donkedik J. You may wanna check that again. This steering wheel is unique to the 2016 Maxima in the Nissan/Infiniti line. Here's the GTR: image.motortrend.com/f/wot/1401_2015_nissan_gt_r_gets_updates_priced_starting_at_103365/60048788/2015-nissan-gt-r-steering-wheel.jpg

    • @i_read_bad_reviews
      @i_read_bad_reviews 9 лет назад

      donkedik J. It's the paddle shifters that are taken from the gtr . It's really just taking from the parts bin . Infiniti also uses them. the Infiniti steering wheel is pretty much the same as the gtr .

    • @wtgkb8
      @wtgkb8 9 лет назад

      The paddles seem like the exact ones from the 2009-2014 models...at least that what it seemed like when I checked the 2016 out at the dealership yesterday. I owned a 2012 Maxima with them...used them all the time. The GTR and Inifiniti ones have some leather-like material in addition to the metal or metal/plastic construction. If I remember correctly, the GTRs (maybe Infiniti as well) use magnesium verses a hard plastic material like the Maxima.

  • @TheDavinci314
    @TheDavinci314 4 года назад

    Comparing a GTR to a Maxima is ridiculous. A GTR is a sports car. Period. I don't see many parents dropping of their kids in a GTR. The Maxima is a sports Sedan... where it's a daily driver first and foremost... while adding in some sportiness to add a little more excitement to your daily drive. It was never intended to be compared to the likes of a GTR.
    Besides that little gripe... great review.

    Great review! I like your more mature stance on the Maxima! I'm a manual transmission owner myself and you know why......? I'm sure that DCT cost $3,000+ and lets hope it never needs repair while you own the car. Manual Trans probably less... and if you know how to shift it shouldn't need a clutch for a LONG time... PLUS I have A.D.D and shifting helps me keep focus on driving and not facebook/texting while driving so Please Nissan throw a Manual in that car and i'll buy my First Nissan!

  • @qgwueirbtbyo

    you guys are underestimating these CVT's. Those shiftpoints they're mimicking is really driver-auto engaging and it feels as though it's like a DCT like my friends VW. LOL no kidding toyota corolla S has one and they share the same CVT manufacturer.

    I like the interior, like the rear end.. front looks hideous tho..
    I always hate it how they only showcase the top of the line trim which is absurdly priced (like that $53,000 Ford Explorer 2.3 Limited) and never showcase the actual volume seller which most people will buy.. I'd rather learn more about the S and what comes standard across the range instead of all those bs options in the Platinum which may or may not be available in the other trims.

    Amazing... The effectiveness of a bandwagon is stronger than expected. "The older maximas look better" Boo fucking Hoo, you don't even have proper opinions anymore. Your taste is ruined by 1 person who says the car is ugly and you decide to not like it. Nissan did a splendid job on this car Asthetic and performance wise. If an A list celebrity like future or Drake drove this... People would go crazy over it, but again proper taste is rare these days because people don't choose what they like but rather what others like. Nuff said.

    • @nreeldeep1
      @nreeldeep1 8 лет назад +3

      You sound very bitter because somebody else has a different opinion than yours. What is a proper opinion? An opinion that agrees with yours? OK. Keep believing that. People have different tastes. I'm sure there are other vehicles you have disliked and voiced your "proper" opinion about right? And your opinion was valid right? Well the same holds true when someone has an opinion that doesn't jive with yours. You sound childish and bitter. Take a breath. It's only a car. No need to let your self worth get all wrapped up in a damn car.

    I gotta say, Nissan hit it this time. They finally are getting back to nice designs. The, juke, altima, and cube are all horrible looking. Hopefully they fix those up too. Im skeptical of the vq35de though (being a previous owner of a 2005 altima 3.5) That engine had some bad design flaws, from things as simple as the dip stick all the way to timing chain tensioners & solenoids. Had to get rid of my Altima prematurely because the timing chain tensioner repair would have costed more than the actual value of the car. 160,000km :( Also the water pump is internal, good luck replacing that.
