He’s a professional athlete, in elite physical shape, multi millionaire, who appears to be happily married. If that’s being square, I’d sign up for it. I think a lot of young men think it’s far better to have a certain mindset, than be successful with one they deem undesirable. Put it this way, I doubt russ would change places if given a choice with any guy criticising him. Do I agree with everything he does, no…but he seems happy and he is leaving a mark on this world very few do.

Growing up in the inner city with lots of other kids that idolized hustlers and players instead of family guys and legitimate working professionals, I can somewhat relate to Russ here. I left home at 19, joined the military for 10 years, earned 2 college degrees, and got a great job with matching pay and benefits after I left the service. I eventually moved back home to be close to my family with a wife and two children in tow. Today we currently live in a nice middle-class home out in a nearby suburb with good schools. I don't hang out in shady places or hang around with shady people. It should come as no surprise to the folks in this thread that most of the people I grew up with decades ago think I'm a square. That title doesn't bother me at all. If being a square is trying to live the best life you can as a good man to everyone around you, then I'm definitely flat on all four sides. Cheers to everyone else out there who can relate.

I was disliked in school. I never drank, smoked, went to late parties, skipped class, or anything else. I would never accept a reason to not be practicing or in the gym...but then when I had a career ending injury, I suddenly had a lot more friends...People get envious of your drive. People are uncomfortable with the idea of being obsessed with your dream, because so many want to believe they can have what the dream of without putting in the work required. Truth be told, there are a lot of folks who are simply just jealous of Russ. I know from experience that when folks are jealous of you, there's nothing you can do that win their favor! You can give them possessions, speak highly of them, do things for them, etc... but you'll still find that nothing works. So the best thing that you can resort to is to go on being " who you are " and remove yourself from them before they stunt your growth or change your direction in life. From what I see, Russ is doing what he believes is Gods will, he's taking care of his family, showing concern and love to kids in hospitals, striving to be a positive role model, etc...
