What I wish I would have known before swimming with my natural hair!

- Swimming can wreck havoc on natural hair. We do this every time before we swim. Then after swimming I'll rinse her hair really well in these same braids, even shampoo and condition in the braids then take the braids down one at a time, moisturize then rebraid!

Mommas twin😊. I have learned over the years most black women have a disliking of their hair because in reality we don't know how to care for it. We need to learn what works for US (individually). It takes time. Years sometimes. Mistakes. And it's all trauma but the more u pay attention u will get it. Eventually u will LOVE your hair.
I agree!
I'm still learning. Approaching my 7th decade.
I love this information, tell the model she did a great job☺️
Thank you ☺️☺️
You can go swimming with your natural hair, I am a swimmer, with natural black course hair. You have to rinse your hair really well before you get in the water. Black hair is a sponge and when it is dry, it’s soaks up whatever liquid it first meets. When you rinse it with fresh clean water that’s what it soaks up. Squeeze the water out add some conditioner and put your hair up in a couple buns and enjoy your swim.
I’m listening to the background hair conversation…”breaking and breaking and breaking and breaking.” 😅
😆😆😆
Thank you for posting. I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. I’m trying to take better care of my daughter’s hair. Again, thanks!!
You are so welcome!
You two are twins!!!!!🥰
Your daughters hair is beautiful! Keep up the good work. Great tips.
Thank you!!
I swim regularly in chlorine. I follow this method and deep condition weekly to keep my hair strong and hydrated. I also use a mild swimmers shampoo if I'm in the pool 4-7 days a week.
That is so on point!
Thanks. I was getting ready to ask. I have a little swimmer who competes. I've managed to keep her hair healthy until now. Glad I ran across this video.
I also keep her hair twisted. Do you wash daily?
@@jenniferwilliams6494 yes I can swim daily and cleanse daily with Cantu Co-wash. Once a week I will use the swimmer shampoo. Twists are ok. I often have mine flat-twisted to get the swimming cap on! Lol! The swimmers shampoo I use is a children's swimmers shampoo so quite mild and not harsh and drying to me.
Woooow she's your TWIN all day! ❤
you are a HERO ‼️‼️‼️
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you for this. We're going to the pool now. ❤
No problem!!
The sun is gonna go down before you get in the water😂🇯🇲
LOL Right. The daughter has that written all over her face. Goggles in her hand and ready to swim.
Lol! If she wasn't talking to us she would have done it faster. Lol!
😂😂
Thank you! This helps tremendously when preparing my girls or mybhair for swimming. Is Flourish a mousse?
Flourish is a cream oil
Great info! I have a teenage son with a wash n go style. He’s not going to let me put his hair in a ponytail. Would you recommend a swim cap or any changes to the routine you posted? Thanks so much!
Hey, thank you for sharing. What should one do to their kids hair after they are done swimming for that day?
I in no way am trying to take anything from this video, but when I’ve done this with my hair, the product runs down my face/body after getting in the pool. I know it’s probably better for your hair but I find that if I have a nice little bun I don’t have any issues with tangling or dry hair from the pool. Afterwards I wash and put in a good leave in. Does anyone else experience this
I do experience it sort of....but I use a swim cap most of the time and that keeps the product off my face. I notice it more like if I'm sat in the sauna, steam room or the jacuzzi and I just wipe it off with my towel. It never runs down my body..if it's running down your body you might be using too much? Us black folk are heavy-headed. Lol!
That works too!!
Sounds like u are putting too much in your hair but I use 2 caps; cloth like cap, then silicon bc it gets slippery and cap can fall off and that’s not fun either. U have to find a balance.
Do you recommend a certain “swimmer’s”, de-chlorinating shampoo?
@ Flourish Curls Summer fun reminder Always add products for protection eliminate hardness sun wind water 💦 like content
Do i follow this same regimen when wearing box braids? Or how do I approach this method while wearing a latchhook style with Synthetic hair?
She is so cute 🥰
Thank you!
Where can I purchase the flourish?
Great info. Makes sense to contain the hair first. Does the dampening and conditioning first apply to swimming in the sea also?
Yes especially if you are not going to wear a swim cap/hat because the sun and the salt will tear you hair up! I swim in the sea with my hat on and my head mostly out of the water because I don't want my face or my hair or my scalp ( fine hair problems) tore up by the sun. My scalp seems to love salt water but I know the hair is not impressed with it.
Yes it does!
Was the second product Flourish in a pump bottle?? I thought it was cream. Also can I use it on my niece relaxed hair? She is in braid most the time for 6 weeks and then out for two weeks when she gets a retouch.
Yep you can! Flourish turns liquid in the heat!
Should this also be done w/braids/extensions/protective styles?
Yes!
I was putting conditioner we in my hair; I’m willing to add a little more product to it. Double cap though.
What brand of brush are you using?
Swisco
Can you coat the hair with hair grease?
I wouldn't!
